25 reviewsIf you are looking for a glimpse of life at an earlier time, this is a village you will want to visit. The village is about 20 kilometers off the main road heading into the mountains. Just when you think you might be lost, you'll see another sign directing you to the B&B. Other than this B&B, there are no businesses (no stores, banks, restaurants, etc.). The village operates largely on a barter system rather than cash. The villagers are mostly self sufficient - living off the land. A truck brings in some supplies - tea, sugar, detergent. Wifi is weak and cell phones seem to work at certain high spots in the village. You can take a very interesting tour of the mill, which turns wheat into flour. Villagers are shy but friendly. The B&B is run by a man who speaks some English. He is a former camel man from Merzouga who started this B&B because his mother was born in the village. He hopes to bring some tourist money to the village. He will arrange a tour of the village or up into the mountains. The tour guides are local people who speak French but no English - but somehow we were able to communicate. The B&B provided excellent meals. The rooms are modest but comfortable - hot water is an issue. If you are looking for coddled luxury - this isn't the place for you. If your looking for a life experience - a look at mankind's agrarian history - you are in for a treat.
