We just wanted a place to crash after a red eye flight and this was very close to the airport and at a good price. 
They organised someone to pick us up from the airport and take us to the accommodation. The driver had left a bucks party to get us and didn't seem too impressed with having to wait for a friend to get her luggage. During the drive he told us he probably shouldn't have picked us up as he was drunk. That wasn't an ideal start to the trip, but we were dropped off safely. The driver showed us to our room, but when we realised we had the wrong room as there weren't enough beds for the three of us he told us there was a second bedroom in our cottage before driving off. We went back to our accommodation and realised there was no second bedroom for us as the door was locked and there was another guest sleeping in the adjoining room. We then searched around in the dark to try to find the owner so she could give us the right room.
Ingrid woke up to our calls and apologised about getting confused about which room to give us. She showed us to the right room and provided us with water and some fruit for the next day. Our room was basic but comfortable enough. We were happy to just have a bed for the night.
Our cottage was rustic but spacious enough and had a balcony area overlooking the garden. There was a kitchen area with a fridge. When I opened the fridge a cockroach ran out. 
If you just want somewhere cheap to crash this place is ok, but I probably wouldn't stay more than a night here.

Cheap and close to the airport

We stayed here twice about a year apart.  We were picked up at the airport both times.  The rooms are basic but nice.  They were cleaned every day.  We found Ingrid to be nice and friendly.  Even provided us with fruit.  It is a bit of a walk into town but we rented a scooter to get around.  The roosters are a pain but we got used to them.  There are just a few units set in almost park like atmosphere.  Nice place to just sit outside on the deck.  Not sure some of the other reviewers stayed in the same place.  We will certainly be back.

Good budget accomadation

we  booked 2 nights of 9 in raro at this place for some Rand R  ,forget it with 5 roosters just out side our cabin at 1 in the morning and for the rest of the morning.sleep deprivation.They know the problem but fail to do anything about it like getting someone in to shoot the dam things.We stayed another 3 nights while we looked for another place.the other issue is they advertised $65 a night on web which we paid first 2 nights then she charges us $75 for following 3 saying the web should be showing $75 .prices vary it seem with them from whos staying there.Dont like supporting such unethical business practices.The good part we found a place just down the rd taire lodge who believe 1 rooster is to many ,cleaner brighter and more helpful.
 The good thing is she did pick us up at the airport although we expressed by email it wasnt needed.

sleepless in raro

Unbelievable!stayed 8nights yet Ingrid adamant I stayed 10....strange I could be in two countries at the same time. In fact I only stayed 7 as was more than happy to have a night away with local friends than continue with a dangerous dirty gas cooker..cockroaches..a toilet that was not cleaned from the last visitors to the blue room. I became very unwell unable to hold food..cold showers for 4 days. What can  I say. ...stay well away. Due to the amount of negative feedback I'm truly amazed this women is allowed to be involved in the hospitality industry in rarotonga..such a beautiful divine place sadly this accommodation is not a good show of what unexpected guests such as myself and many others are subjected too for the many other beautiful cook island people. This was not my first holiday there so I know there is much much better...beware of apatu orchid this little lady is no sweetheart by a long shot. Her conduct towards tourists needs to be held accountable by some authority in rarotonga I imagine anyone getting a taste of this for the first time with no comparison will be leaving the island with a bitter taste in their mouth. 3rd world countries treat their homeless better. Avoid at all costs. My intention is to report this women's rude rip off disgusting behaviour.

We stayed here in early oct 2014. The rooms are very basic but clean For the price it was ok but was very disappointed that at no time we were told that the pick up and drop of back at the airport would involve a charge per person Would spend a bit extra next time and go somewhere no so "quaint".
