Arisaig House

This was our third visit to Arisaig House and, again, it did not disappoint. Breathtakingly beautiful setting, friendly staff, informative hosts and wonderful food.  

This is such a special place - perfect to escape the modern world, soak in the scenery, reconnect with family and relax.

What a great place, a Magnificent building and grounds in the grand old style.  The room was a really good size with a sofa to sit and gaze at the wonderful view out to the Sound of Arisaig.  Staff very attentive and friendly and the food was great.  Had a lovely Whiskey drinking night in the Lounge with other guests.

An amazing place. What can we say, but thank you....

We had our wedding at Arisaig House in July. Weddings are not something they usually do in high season, but we had fallen in love with this beautiful house with it’s phenomenal views and we are enormously grateful Sarah WI (the manager, dervish of energy, fixer, planner) said yes. 

Leading up to the wedding we sat down with Sarah, Colin (head chef, best sausage maker in the highlands), and Alison (ever energetic Wonder Woman) to plan through all aspects for the day and days around. Living in London meant we were a long way away but the team helped us sort everything and worked with us on the menu, music, and feel of the day. 

The wedding day itself could not have been better: Arisaig’s staff were spectacular, nothing was too much for them. Astonishingly good local food, the stunning grounds of the house and ceilidh and dancing till the early morning. 

We could not recommend a place to stay on holiday higher. True Highland hospitality that extended to everyday of our, our families and friend’s stay. It exists like you’re staying at someone’s house, don’t expect hotel formalities, there is no reception area and there will definitely be a dog or puppy around - but that is the beauty of this special place.

Another wonderful stay

It’s like stepping back in time when you arrive at Arisaig house, stumble over the dogs and wellies by the front door and make your way up the stairs to your room overlooking the Loch. 

Rooms are large and comfortably furnished as are the multiple public rooms - perfect for sinking into an old sofa after a days hiking. 

The food is ok for dinner - it seemed to be trying a bit too hard - but the breakfasts are amazingly good. 

Nice grounds to walk in and very friendly staff to keep you happy. 

Classic highlands country house by the water

Very disappointing. 
Plastic ham sandwich upon arrival. 
Plastic bread for breakfast alongside concentrated orange juice - fresh oranges apparently on order as were the citronella candles, without which it was impossible to enjoy the stunning views. 
Didn’t risk dinner.
At a loss to understand the rave reviews. 


Beyond disappointing 

Despite being residents in one of the lodges within the grounds of Arisaig House, we were refused a drink in the bar of Arisaig House, which was completely deserted, on the grounds that we were not guests at the main house and were not dining in Arisaig House. When we advised that we were renting within the grounds of the house, the young lady we advised said she would see if we were “allowed” a drink. Whilst she left us sitting in the bar, another young lady enquires what we would like to drink. Before we could answer, the first young lady charged over as though he life depended on it to halt proceedings and gleefully tell us that we could not be served. We then asked about dining there and were told the restaurant was full that night, the next night and then “for a while” from the night after. The restaurant was completely empty, as we noticed on our departure. As we left we also observed a woman instructing one of the staff to clear up her dog’s mess from the carpet.
What a disgusting experience that was: I would love to explore Arisaig House and the grounds but I will never set foot there whilst the current owners remain in place.
