We stayed at Anugaa in the City for two weeks and it was a fantastic experience. The owner goes out of her way - from ensuring our privacy to locally-informed sightseeing and food recommendations, to making sure the WiFi was excellent and we had enough food storage. We travel quite often and across continents and this is hands down the best place to stay in Colombo. The rooms are clean (I'm quite picky about this!), the breakfast filling and varied (my husband is quite picky about this!), and the place is easy to find and centrally located. We definitely recommend this place for your stay in Colombo. We like to give some context to our reviews so here it is: We are a couple in our late twenties who travel both the Global North and South extensively. My husband is German and I am Sri Lankan, and while I write most of our reviews, they comprise of both our experiences.
