Amarisa Bed and Breakfast

We stayed for one week in Amarisa and travelled from there to different sites and gardens and visited Glyndebourne Opera. 
The room is really nice and very clean and Katie and Paul are a lovely couple and very helpful. The beds are good and we slept really well. After a long day Katie made us tea, she waited upon us until we were home from Glyndebourne so we could have another tea, it was just a great stay. We also loved their little dog Teddy, which is very playful and cute.I would go there again, whenever I'm in that area.Katie helped us also to find places to go, showed us the easiest way to go. It was really wonderful.

This is such a lovely place. I first stayed in Oct 17 and didn't know it was on Trip advisor so here is my review after my second stay.

The owners are so friendly! Lovely greeting both visits with a fresh cup of coffee and friendly welcome. 

Room. Gorgeous. Comfy bed. Lovely hot shower. Soft towels. Free wi-fi. 
Breakfast. Vegetarian cooked breakfast with all the trimmings at a time to suit me. Hot, fresh coffee. Perfect.

PLUS - I have never stayed in a B&B where the owner offers to taxi you 3 miles. So kind and thoughtful. I do hope I am on business in this area again as this is the place to stay. 

The house is 200m from the railway station and 200 m from a great pub that serves lovely food and tasty beer, along with its own coffee bar if you call in at lunch time.

We chose Amarisa B&B due to its proximity to Charleston Farmhouse, Farley Farmhouse, Monk's Cottage and various other sites we wished to visit. We couldn't have chosen better as everything was within an easy drive away. The hosts are lovely, knowledgeable and very helpful. A bonus is being located a short walk from the railway station, where we took the train into Brighton for the day (much easier than driving as we'd originally intended). Breakfasts were very good and served in a large airy conservatory overlooking the garden and woodland beyond. 

This was the second time that I have stayed at the Amarisa, which is well furnished and very comfortable.  The household is peaceful and quiet with a conservatory and beautiful garden.

Amarisa is a “new build”, i.e. insulated to the highest standards and with all the doors and windows closed is effectively hermetically sealed (as air movement through insulated cavities can cut the efficiency of the insulation by as much as 50%).

While Katie works tirelessly to keep Amarisa spotlessly clean, Paul works hard in the garden during the spring and summer to ensure that the Amarisa has as much kerb-appeal as possible.

It is preferred that breakfast orders are placed the evening before.  This is partly to ensure that sufficient cooking time is allowed between each group of guests for breakfast.  Breakfasts were cooked to perfection - Paul is very particular with his cooking times.  Indeed, in the unlikely event of disquiet, Paul & Katie would rather cook a breakfast again to the exact requirement rather than have a guest leave their table dissatisfied.

Bird feeder stations in the rear garden attract a variety of birds from the woodland behind Amarisa.  The visiting wildlife can be watched while eating breakfast.  Last year when I stayed at Amarisa in the Woodlands View (double upstairs room), if I left a bedroom window open slightly, the birdsong dawn chorus could be heard to start at about 4am.  This year, somewhat unusually, what appeared to be a micro-bunny was to be seen on the rear lawn - perhaps someone’s escaped pet?

Katie & Paul Ely do their best to be as accommodating as possible and really looked after me during my stay.  The first time I stayed at the Amarisa and requested cooked kippers, this proved to be an issue, however a very agreeable solution was reached – Waitrose finest pre-packaged mackerel with Horseradish would be served cold instead.  To their credit Katie & Paul remembered this from my first visit and, without prompting, offered to serve mackerel to me at breakfast again during this second visit – an offer which I quickly accepted!
During my last breakfast at the Amarisa, Katie & Paul had especially obtained Vogel bread for their German guests who stayed only one night and departed just before I did in the morning.

Throughout my stay free, reliable and strong Wifi and fast internet was available – of which I made extensive use when planning where to visit the next day.

Only real negative was that in order to get air at least one window had to be left slightly ajar at night, and doing this significantly increased the sounds that could be heard from outside.  One morning I was awoken by an express passing through Berwick railway station and another morning I was awoken by a lorry.  No doubt if I had stayed longer at Amarisa I would have become familiar with these sounds and they probably wouldn’t bother me.

Only other slight negative was the en-suite shower in English Rose (the twin downstairs room) in which I stayed during this visit operates at a markedly lower pressure than the one in the upstairs shared private bathroom which is capable of delivering a much more invigorating shower!

Overall I found Katie & Paul to be warm, welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts and would have no hesitation in staying at the Amarisa a third time.

The Amarisa B&B is a private home situated in the small country village of Berwick in Sussex UK. My room was fairly small but still had a very comfortable queen size bed and a small TV set. The bathroom was next door to my room as was spotlessly clean as was the rest of the establishment. The excellent breakfast was served in the conservatory with other guests. There was adequate parking in the front of the house. The Berwick Arms was a short walk back in the village of Berwick and a good pub for evening food and drink.
