Althea Studios

We have enjoyed a few wonderful days at Althea Studios where the excellent service began well before we arrived, with Ntina messaging about our arrival and pick up etc. Sure enough she was there waiting patiently at the harbour with a warm smile, ready to whisk us to the studios with helpful hints along the short journey for getting back into town via a path takes you down to the tavernas, mini market, fruit store, bakery and picture perfect town beach in less than 5 minutes. We were delighted by our room which was such good value, spacious, clean and serviced daily. The highlight however was our wonderful private balcony looking down onto the sea and town - we so loved relaxing there in the mornings and evenings. We walked the hiking trails around most of the island during our stay; our favourite being across to Kalotarissita, Trypiti beach and the delightful Mitsos taverna. In town we discovered after the first couple of days that we could enjoy an incredibly cheap early evening drink with the locals by the harbour and have delicious dinners at very reasonable prices too. (Our first evening we went for the higher reviewed eatery which on reflection was not worth the doubled price.) Another highlight was Kedros beach bar - great vibe and the most incredible rugula salad. If you don’t want to walk or fancy a ride back after your day out there’s a bus that goes regularly around the island for 4 euros a trip, and also a boat that visits some of the bays including Livadi which was the most stunning beach. To get to Donoussa you can take the small Cyclades ferry from Amorgos, Schinoussa, Koufonissia, Iraklia and Naxos 3 times per week. Each trip costs about 7 euros. What we didn’t know however was that you can also go direct from Piraeus in Athens 3 times a week for about 50 euros. We really cannot recommend Althea Sudios and Donoussa enough - if you want to fully relax in simple beauty get booking and enjoy!
