after almost 20 days make family tour around  Europe, I really faced the most horrible experience i ever met specially with my family.
we faced unbelievable racism action because we are muslim family from the hotel manager in sofia (hostel alex 1), she was so rude and refused to host us and this horrible action happened Infront my kids.

The rooms priced changed on check in, which was a bit dishonest i feel but it was still fairly cheap and as it was 3am, we didnt have a whole lot of option.

The room was very basic. 3 beds. 1 side table. 1 TV (i don't know if it worked). & 1 slim cupboard. The bathroom was shared and rather cramped, but i don't think anyone was on our floor.

Located near the bus/train station. Approx 20 minute walk into town.

Basic and uninspired.

At first we arrived at a very narrow room, barely enough for two people but we were staying for one night so we didn't care. We couldn't find a shower at first, but in Bulgaria it's quite common to have shower in the same space where the toillet is, don't be surprised or think that it's the hostels fault, it's just a thing in Bulgaria as to save space. When I asked about the shower and Wifi the host gave us a free room on the upper floor which we really appreciated. 

All in all, the room was very clean, Central station is 5 minutes walking, and the price was cheap.

3 minutes from Central Station, friendly service

We booked this hostel because of its location. It's very near to the bus and train station - only 10min walk. At the same time, it is a 10min walk to the city center as well. Althogh the building doesn't look appealing, the rooms are quite spacious, clean and comfortable. The shared bathroom was also okay.

Hostel Alex 1 was exceptionally good value for money. The rooms were large and clean, and the hosts (although not much English spoke) were incredibly kind and helpful.

The location is super handy to the bus station, but just not the best area. A lot of shady characters around at night at the streets are mostly liquor stores, bars etc. 

As two female travelers we felt very safe inside Hotel Alex, and in the neighborhood during the day. Just perhaps find a different location if you're a fan of walking around later at night.

If you want somewhere clean, safe and spacious (with decent WiFi) to stay that is very close to the bus station, Hotel Alex 1 is a good choice.
