Hoang Mai Hotel Vung Tau

Luckily did not book ahead. Got off ferry and told taxi to drive right towards Back Beach. Stopped at sight of hotels and after a couple of efforts found this hotel. Got room (501) with full length window overlooking entire beach for 300,000d per nite. (I didnt bargain). Hotels in Vung Tau overpriced so this place was, I thought a fair price. Room basic as expected but comfortable and clean (for Vietnamese standards). Bathroom basic and smelt of urine but a few toilet flushes later and a spray of deodorant fixed that problem. Flat screen tv, 2 chairs and table to look out at the great view, new bar fridge. Ok towels and sheets are clean but not 5 star quality - you get what youve paid for. I wish I could have cleaned the windows though. This is the Vietnamese side of town but that can be a good thing, expats picking up young girls is not my scene. Walk right out of hotel past the big jesus towards town and rented a motorbike for 120,000d. Now you can go to Lotte Mart (3km fr hotel) and buy groceries etc or eat at KFC and the like. Staff speak no or very little english but they were lovely. Hot water for tea or coffee at reception. Had no problem with shower water. Hotel has a lift. Beach is dirty (of course) but there is a pool up the road (near overhead bridge) for 80,000d. I would definately stay here again for the money and with a motorbike there's no problem.
