Green Coconut Resort

We came here for a quick getaway at the end of June with some friends and family. We booked all five beachfront rooms which was right in front of the beach (duh). I was worried after reading some reviews about the place and yes, some of it is true. Let me first start with the cons: All the rooms need a serious updating. I did not feel comfortable sleeping in my room. The property needs to be better maintained; water bottles were strewn around the beach and near the floors by the beach chairs. It's quite obvious that aesthetics are of no importance here. Wish it was well-kept. Perhaps it's because it's an individual, not a large company, running the place that professionalism seems to be lacking. That is also an attractive part when it comes down to the service but not other aspects. Pros: Seriously great location. It's in the middle of everything in town. Beachfront rooms have terrific views of the beach. You can walk right out into the waves if you'd like. Beach area is super quiet. A lot of kitesurfers serve for interesting watching. Korean food here is seriously amazing. Because it's a small boutique spot, the owner and her staff are very accommodating. For instance, we HAD to watch the world cup games so she brought in a larger TV to the front hall restaurant for our group to enjoy watching - rather than being stuck in our small bedrooms watching it from a 13 inch tv. Overall, I can confidently say that our group will never forget The Green Coconut. This is not a five star resort, definitely not luxurious, but offers a small home away from home that neither the Anantara and the Mia offer. I've stayed at both and both are gorgeous, well-kept, and romantic but did not offer a personal touch the way our ghetto Green Coconut has. (I wish I could say I will be returning but the roads to Phan Thiet are TREACHEROUS. I don't understand how it got worse over the span of a year bu t unless roads are fixed, I will not be able to endure 5 hours plus of bumpy roads.)
