Mekong Chill Homestay

This place was so cool! Best coffee, best food. You will really get an authentic experience on the Mekong. There is a share bathroom and fans in the rooms. Mosquito nets. Its a must do! Also went for a push bike ride around the local area which was also great. Hosts were very friendly and accommodating and even let is cool with them! 

This was by far the most beautiful homestay I have ever experienced. Miss River - the lady who runs this is a beautiful, independent strong woman. This lady cooked for us her home style meals and accommodated for each person in my group that ranged from being vegetarians, pescaterians (like myself) and in general your average eater. They had hammocks overlooking the river, bicycles for the small town and lots more. This lady will always be close to my heart and I hope she remembers me like I remember her. 

Stayed 4 night here - the best home stay we had in South Asia! 
Pho, his family and staff are so welcoming! No problem with communication - very helpful and honest people. As we arranged - they picked us up when we got off the ferry and got us quickly to the lodge. We were warmly welcomed by Pho and his wife. Pho speaks fluent English (hard to believe he learnt by himself!). The room was very spacious, very clean, working AC, 24 hrs hot shower and good size bed (when you are 6'72 it matters). The lodge is spacious, very clean and has pretty garden. There is plenty of space to chill on the hammocks - in the communal areas (restaurant, patios). The food - amazing, generous (HUGE) portions. Drinks are served cold from the fridge - very refreshing. Trips - Pho organized for us great time. We took bikes for a ride around the village, we had a day on scooters, we went on a boat trip to see local water markets, Pho also organized for us fabulous cooking class (that was just amazing!). 
I cannot recommend this place well enough - you need to come and see for yourself. You can also check some of the photos from our stay there.

We had lunch at this lovely place today it was beautiful lovely to spend time with a Vietnamese family their hospitality was wonderful and meal very tasty we where made to feel very welcome even to a great scooter ride to get there. They are now taking home stay which I would recommend . Thank you again.

We stayed for one night as part of a Peregrine tour. The family are friendly and with the help of our local guide Tam, were able to communicate with us (limited English). The rooms are basic but comfortable and clean, with our own shower/toilet room en-suite for up to 4 people. They are located in a rural area and we arrived by boat to their entrance, and were able to walk along the banks of the river by twilight to lots of "hello" from the locals. The meal prepared for dinner was delicious and we were able to help if we wanted to.

Are you looking to experience authentic Mekong Delta life? This might be the place for you. Located in the middle of rice fields, the place can be very difficult to find. You should communicate with the owners to arrange a motorbike pick up from the bus station. Finding it on your own or in a taxi is really not a good idea, I strongly advise against it.

There's not much to do around, but it's rural life at it's best. You simply have to set your expectations according to the fact that it is in a very authentic setting. The food provided was delicious and the family was charming and very helpful.

If you want to truly experience Mekong Delta's rural life, this is clearly the place to do so!

Real Mekong Life

If you want to spend time with a typical Vietnamese family and share their delicious food, then this is for you. But, if you are expecting the trappings of a Western hotel then look out!

The family are lovely. Helpful, friendly and desperate for you to enjoy your stay. They have very limited English and are practically self sufficient farmers, pretty much in the middle of nowhere. They wanted us to see their extended family as well as the machinery and mechanisms used in Vietnamese farming. 

The rooms are basic in the extreme. (Expect sharing with livestock) Again, if you are expecting western standards, then you are going to be disappointed. Probably good for backpackers who want to see how the majority of Vietnamese live outside the cities.

Not a lot to do around Vinh Long however they lent us their Moped and whizzing round the lanes near the farms taking random photos was good fun. (Not for the faint hearted)

Advisable to contact them for pick up at the bus station as finding the place is extremely difficult. (They would do this for free)

Rural and basic

Beware, this place is not what it seems. We booked here because it was en route for our cycling trip, but after arriving at the place we decided to turn right back and book a taxi to a place nearer to Can Ho with the kind help of people at a local cafe. We felt really lucky we'd arrived early enough in the afternoon to not feel stuck because of the sun starting to set... The house and grounds are in a state of decay, we were greeted by three or four wild dogs, only after some time the owner appeared who came across to us as rather hostile in his attitude. There is no signage saying Mekong Homestay, not at the house and not at the roadside, notwithstanding the location is very much cross-country/off track. At the house several banners have been put up with a Christian/evangelical message which seemed a bit out of place and unexpected for a tourist accommodation. Given some of the other more positive reviews it would appear that this listing has gone downhill in a major way.
