Hostel & Guest House Sim-Sim

I stayed here for a couple of nights and really enjoyed my stay. Room: I stayed in a double room as a solo traveller. It was clean and cosy, with air con and blankets to deal with the extremes of weather that are experienced there. The bathroom was also clean and the shower functioned perfectly well; no toiletries provided (but at this value, but a big deal at all). Location: I’ve read reviews discussing how far it is from other attractions. Unless you find it difficult to walk for more that ten minutes, the distances are NOT an issue. It was about a 20 minute walk to the Registan, and closer to the Gure Amir Mausoleum (which would be a good way of starting a walking tour of the town). The hostel is also essentially in the Russian part of town, so good restaurants and cafes are always close. In short, the location is good. Breakfast: Reasonable offering - green tea, boiled eggs, porridge, bread. A solid offering. Service: Check in was straightforward. The owner was flexible with payment (as getting Som can be a pain). The owner was helpful with my departure, arranging for a taxi to take me to the Tajik border. It would have been nice to see more tours and trips on offer at the hotel; I suspect this may have been available, but it was not clearly offered. Overall, a great place to stay, especially for those on a budget. Recommended.
