98 reviewsI was lodged at Hotel Hovli Poyon for three consecutive nights in October 2019 as part of a larger trip to Uzbekistan. The high ranking of the hotel on TripAdvisor and the very positive description of the hotel in the Lonely Planet Central Asia guidebook were the main reasons for me selecting this lodging. Making a reservation was a simple and straightforward process. Using the e-mail address listed on the hotel's official website, I requested a reservation for a Single Room or Double Room and listed my dates of stay. After only a few hours, I received a response from Jasurbek, who stated that a Single Room was available and quoted the price. I accepted Jasurbek’s offer and, in a follow-up e-mail from him, was told that I had a confirmed reservation. To prevent any confusion, I eventually printed these e-mails and brought them with me when I departed for Bukhara. When I arrived at the train station in Kogon on the Afrosiyob train, a taxi from the station to the hotel in Bukhara was a negotiated fare of 60,000 Som and took about 20 minutes in moderate late-morning traffic. And when I arrived at the hotel, the check-in process with the receptionist, during which I received the key to my room, was fast and efficient. The bedroom of my room (#216) featured two single beds each with a single pillow, sheets and comforter of excellent quality (clean with no stains or holes), and a very firm mattress. Two nightstands with lamps, a padded chair, wooden bench, a large armoire (with two extra pillows and two extra blankets inside), small but powerful air conditioning, and sufficient wi-fi were also present. The bathroom featured a walk-in shower stall (with handheld shower wand) with variable hot water and strong water pressure, and large and clean towels and washcloths. Amenities in the bathroom included a hair dryer and a small selection of toiletries. European-style power outlets were located throughout the bathroom and bedroom. In the mornings, breakfast (complimentary) was an all-you-can-eat buffet of fried eggs, hard-boiled eggs, omelette, sausages, sliced meats/cheese, yogurt, honey, sliced fruit, breads and spreads, cookies, (surprisingly good) instant coffee, and juice. Breakfast was filling and the service was excellent each morning during my stay. For travelers desiring a quiet hotel with an ideal location in Bukhara, Hotel Hovli Poyon is located in the center of the historic part of the city, with all major tourist sights, restaurants, and currency exchange very easy and short walks from the hotel. For three consecutive nights at Hotel Hovli Poyon, I paid $140 USD (cash). Upon completion of my stay, the transfer by taxi from the hotel to the train station in Kogon took about 20 minutes in moderate early-afternoon traffic and cost a negotiated fare of 50,000 Som. For a future trip to Uzbekistan, I would have no problem selecting Hotel Hovli Poyon again for my lodging in Bukhara, and would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone considering staying in the city for any length of time.
