Colonia West Hotel - All Inclusive

It's one of the best hotels in Uruguay and one of the few All Inclusives and the food is nice and there are variations from day to day. This is our second visit to Colonia West and we were just as happy this time. They had different outdoor activities and our son enjoyed the danicing animator a lot. The hotel has a nice pool and a range of indoor activities. The personel is friendly and helpful, but as Uruguaynians are, quite relaxed and down to earth. You have to be aware that the all inclusive is sometimes a buffet and sometimes an a-la-carte, depending on the amount of guests there. We think they have mostly buffet in the weekend and a-la-carte in the weekdays. It can be a refreshing change that it's sometimes a-la-carte, but they should put up a sign or something that explains that today it's buffet or a-la-carte. There was minor things that left us head scratching, for example they had a very nice arrangement of coldcuts at lunch and evening, when they had only small pieces of flute. In the morning they had sometimes som very nice bread, but very poor coldcuts. They have sometihng called show cooking.... that they should either drop or get somebody who gives you the impression of being just a little bit enthusiastic. They should change the laminate floor to something more lasting, as it's starting to wear out badly in many places and is only going to get worse. Another thing you can generally enjoy here as a foreigner, is that Uruguaynians are generally very freindly, talkative, easy going and often initiating conversations if you speak any level of spanish. They don't give up on you, because your spanish sucks :D All in all we had a very nice and relaxed christmas here :)
