Hotel Oriental

The last leg of our 3 weeks long fishing trip found us in Santa Lucia. This hotel is as old school as it gets. Almost like a museum from and for some other era. We had two rooms with a shared bath at the end of the hall, just for us. The gentleman running the place was very nice, he even invited us to his parrilla party in front of the hotel. He speaks fluent German, English, Italian, and Spanish. This can be helpful for travelers like us with limited Spanish. The location is perfect, down near the old train station and the river. This is where the locals like to hang out, so you get to experience what the locals like to do in their spare time. The river side is beautiful with people grilling, horses wondering around, a couple of bars and restaurants. Typical relaxed small Uruguay town where time seems to stand still. I wish one day we'd go back and I would definitely stay at The Oriental again.
