Hostel La Cruz del Sur

Really nice hostel!! Staff were very friendly and helpful. The town is small and it was about a 10 minute walk from bus station and the beach was like 2 min away. We we're there low season and it was "tranquilo". The hostel had a nice patio with sofas and the common area was spacious with tv. We really enjoyed our stay :) thank you!! I checked few Hostels in LaPaloma, and this one was far the best. Cozy, bright rooms, most of them with a nice view to the beach, very clean, cheap, friendly staff (mother and son and a beautiful garden. I actually just wanted to stay in LaPaloma a few day, but I extended and even came back (the Hostel was a main part of this decision)
They even invited us for a proper Asado!

Stayed for 2 nights in a 6 bed dorm on the 3rd floor. Nice views across to the sea and the shared bathroom was just next door so where some people say it is upstairs from their room this would be from the private and larger dorms in the lower floors. The bathroom was modern and clean and the bedroom was comfy. We were staying on our own in the dorm as just before the high season and we did think that the space would be tight if the room was full. The lockers in this room were on the landing by the bathroom which we didnt like as felt less secure however we had no problems. 
Although the owner does not speak English she was very helpful as were all staff.
If we didnt have a tight time frame we would have stayed another night or two as had a nice relaxed hippy vibe that we liked.

Best Hostel in Town

My first impressions of this place were not great. And that didn't change in the two nights I was there.  I was shown to the female dorm, which was a decent size. However, it is advertised as having an ensuite bathroom. It had a toilet, and a sink, but no shower. Turns out there is one shower shared between I don't know how many people, up 2 flights of stairs. And the shower door didn't lock. Not great. The staff spoke reasonable English, however spent almost all of their time watching something on their computer. This is a real, figure it out yourself, type of place. No information on the town, maps, or suggestions of things to do were available. The wi fi in the common area was acceptable, but not great, and the common area wasn't very comfortable. The breakfast was fine - cornflakes, coffee, bread and jam. The location is decent. Close to the beach, and close to the shops. It is about a 20 minute walk to the bus station. The map to the hostel, that is available at the bus station information centre is complete poo. Use the one on the hostel website, as it actually has the location of the bus station on it. And, at the end of it all, this hostel is really expensive! I got 3 nights at a much nicer hostel in Punta del Diablo, for the price of 2 nights here. Oh, and there is a 10% surcharge if you want to pay with credit card. They really should tell you that when you book....
However, whilst this isn't a destination review, if you are considering going to La Paloma (and if you're reading this, I assume you are), I would urge you to reconsider. The beaches are really not nice. Brown murky water. The town is boring and again, not at all nice. Head to one of the other beach towns, like Cabo Polonia, or Punta del Diablo instead. They are so much better,
