Wow!  Beautiful room. Great bed.  Friendly, super accommodating service by Robert and Jule who are hands-on and very available.  Great home made breakfast.  Robert bakes bread each night.  Hot tub.  Heated pool.  This place is a jewel and we highly recommend it.   

We come back here whenever I  visit family in Taos.

I have been coming here for a few years.  The rooms are quaint and the owner is always making sure that everything is clean and  works.  The hot tub is very relaxing and the pool is so nice to sit around and relax.  There is a nice grassy area to visit and sit with friends.  The breakfast is always delicious!  We had a great weekend here with a group of friends.

This place needs a lot of tender loving care and was an inch of dust behind the headboards the carpet is worn the sidewalks and driveway would not be great for someone who has trouble with mobility issues. The saving Grace was that the breakfast the very nice manager or owner made was delicious. Beds are mostly uncomfortable and we had spiders walk across our bedspreads. There was a dog in the woods behind our room that barked all night.

Inn on Rio

The Inn on the Rio is the perfect place to stay in Taos.  Located on a beautiful country road within a healthy walking distance of the center of town, the inn enjoys a wonderful location.  Rooms are beautifully kept and decorated with a creative Southwestern flair.  Beds and baths are very comfortable and the breakfast is amazing.   The heated pool surrounded by lounge chairs welcomed us each afternoon.  Innkeeper Robert is a wealth of information about the area and is a gracious host.  He runs a professional inn and gives warm personal attention to his guests.  Highly recommended!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

A comforting place to stay when visiting Taos.  Robert, the host, is especially helpful and kind.   I can't wait to go back. I especially liked the quietness, the view of the mountains, and the proximity to Taos.  But I must not leave out the hearty breakfast.

A charming place to rest when in Taos.

This is a terrific find.   The proprietor/manager, Robert, is wonderful--very concerned about the welfare and happiness of guests.  The property is ideally located about two miles from the center of Taos, right on the Enchanted Circle Drive.   Rooms are very nicely appointed and the bed is very comfortable.  The breakfast is great...the fresh breads in particular are very tasty.   To us, the Inn on the Rio fits perfectly with  the endearing culture and natural attributes of Taos.

Wonderful little property -- welcoming, clean, comfortable

Not what you'd expect from the photos.  The Rio is a dry ditch behind the motel.  Rooms are nicely decorated but need to be cleaned more carefully....lots of dust on decorative items and edges of carpeting.  Nice pool and hot tub.  Not near anything for walking.  Shower is very small.  Breakfast is nicely done with some homemade items.  We happened to be there for a 7 hour power outage due to a snowstorm so there was no water to drink or flush a toilet but fortunately there is propane heat.  Owner needed to check on guests' well being but didn't.  Some good and some not so good with this motel.

Not what you'd expect

Such a cool and quaint redone classic motor inn in the typical Taos southwest style. We stayed when we were passing through town on a road trip. Bed was super comfortable, everything was spotless. Had to air out the room a little bit upon arriving, but I do that wherever I stay anyways. Robert and his wife were the perfect hosts. Very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Breakfast was a nice treat! We liked being a little outside town because it was quiet. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely spot

This is a pretty basic hotel, but the "charm" makes up for lack of luxuries. The rooms have outside seating, which is perfect to enjoy the cool weather in the morning hours. The breakfast was yummy and you can choose to sit inside or out. The owner is super friendly and talkative (which we loved). The main downfall for me, was that they don't have AC. There is a fan, but in the summer months I was still hot at night. It is cool outside, but the front windows don't open to let in the air. We tried opening a samller back window, but the screen wasn't sealed well and bugs came in, so we had to close it. I'd also recommned the hotel buying some black-out curtains. This would keep the room colder and also block out the night lights and the morning sun.

We decided to explore Route 66 (in honor of my age) across California, Arizona and New Mexico. Our destination ended us a bit off the "Mother Road" in Taos, NM, as we had skiing in mind. The Inn on the Rio fit right in to the era we were following.  Owners Robert and Jules created the perfect stay. He introduced us to our comfy, charming room, explaining all the was available to us as guests.  The sheets, mattress and towels...all fresh and most comfortable  Breakfast at 8AM was perfectly appointed with freshly cut fruits and home made hot items. The hot tub was exactly the perfect temperature and we enjoyed the winter outdoors looking up at the stars. Would I return to the Inn on the Rio?  You bet!
