Lake McDonald Lodge - Inside the Park

West Glacier

Stayed in a small cabin with queen bed. Tiny bathroom with shower. Coffee maker only. Internet spott at best. It would be very difficult to stay here for more than one night. Explicit regulations prohibit cooking within the cabin-leading to a reliance on NP restaurants. It would be better to stay outside the park, in an RV park or a Village Inn Apgar with kitchette. Road to Lake McDonald being paved, making for a long 10 miles in our Tesla and a pack of huge vehicles either passing us or wishing they could. 

Lake McDonal Cabins Just Too Small and Confining

This amazing  property appeared to be neglected by poor maintenance and some cheap repairs.  Our cabin looked grim with run-down furniture, dirty doors, non-working outlets, paper cups and cheap teabags. We were not able to use coffeemaker, or charge our cameras overnight, that delayed our morning expedition. 
Beautiful view was obstructed by unwashed  windows. 
Historical lobby looked unwelcoming and  neglected, with plastic buckets of trash stored around the antique fireplace. 
Breakfast was no included in pricy stay, and we opted out from purchasing it after dinner experience at the lodge restaurant. 
Staff was confused and poorly trained. 
This historical place deserves better handling. 



Disgraceful 

Spent 1 night in a cute little cabin. This cabin had 2 full sized beds and a separate bathroom with shower only (sorry no pics of). There was a little heater in the bathroom, too. The cabin was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was just a short paved walk to the main lodge or non-paved walk down to the lake. Easy to navigate at night to do some star gazing, but bring a red light for walking! We ate in the lodge. The meal was ok (chicken was a little dry), but it was nice to see that they had some meal accommodations for vegan and gluten free.

Cute Little Cabin Stay

We stayed in the Cobb House. The rooms were clean and comfy., perfect size for our family of four. The porch was a nice place to have a quiet morning coffee. The shower was less than ideal but we made it work. The grounds of the hotel had everything we needed. The pizza restaurant was closed while we were there without notification which bummed out the kids. Loved the location and ease of shuttles with a stop right at the hotel. 

Cobb House

We stayed at Lake MacDonald for 3 nights. Because I did not plan ahead each night was in a different room. We were able to experience every level of accommodation and each was perfectly acceptable for a family. 

We stayed in a Snyder room, a small cabin 2 doubles, and a deluxe 2 queen in the lodge. Obviously, the deluxe was amazing with softer bed linens and nicer amenities. The small cabin had quicker access to the lake and since we were close to Jammer Joe’s we had internet. The Snyder Hall room with bunks wasn’t bad either. 

In all honestly any lodging in the park is great because you’re in the park. You get access to Going to the Sun Road and the Lake MacDonald trails. 

Our kids loved ending the day in the water. There is no bad day in Glacier National Park. 

Perfect Spot for Families with Littles

Staff, accommodations, food and setting on Lake McDonald could not have been more memorable.  Our experience was so much more than we could have imagined.  Our visit has been on our bucket list for years and this year--we made it!  The hard work and dedication by all who help to make a visit to Lake McDonald Lodge possible is to be commended.  

A gem set in beautiful Glacier National Park!

We stayed in cabin 4 for two nights. The room was comfortable but the bathroom was small. No issues with hot water. There was a wall heater you could turn on but I didn't notice any provision for A/C. While the cabin faced the lake, you couldn't see if from the window through the trees. Thought the lodge was expensive for what you got but there aren't many options for visiting the park. They don't clean the rooms during your stay.
Breakfast and lunch at the lodge were good; buffet dinner was not. All the staff was very nice and helpful.

Comfortable but Pricey

My Family rented a cabin for 2 nights at Lake McDonald. Cozy, cute but very small. Hot water at sink didn't work. We had a nice porch and view of the lake. They need to offer more variety of food ! Fun

Beautiful area

We stayed in a Small Cabin 2 Double for one night and it met our expectations.  The room was located in a bigger cabin facing the lake and only two minute walk from the main lodge.  We had an opportunity to stay in the 1 Queen bed inside the main lodge, but couldn't justify the price compared to the Small Cabin 2 Double.

FYI:
There is no refrigerator in the room  

The bathroom sink is outside of the shower/toilet

The room gets hot, but there was a fan

Even though reception said (very weak) WIFI can be reached in the main lodge, we were able to connect to it from the cain

There's nothing really to eat around the area unless you want to drive out of the park or to Apgar Village.  Lake McDonald Lodge has a restaurant, but they were only serving buffet style for dinner at $30/person.  The food wasn't that bad!

Stayed in Small Cabin 2 Double

We stayed at 3 of-the lodges- this was our least favorite.  A great deal has to do with what room you can get.  We had a cabin on the lake with a queen sofa and queen bed.  My husband and I are both quite tall and much prefer a king bed. We had anticipated one of us in the sofa bed and one in the queen bed- but there wouldnt have been room to open the suitcases.  It was VERY hot when we were there- the window fan did little good.  There is no maid service during your stay- but you can request clean towels. There is only a $30 evening buffet option which was ok for one night but tedious for the second night.  We were under the impression there were 2 restaurants - casual pizza place and a regular restaurant. Nope.  They can do whatever they want- the location is what attracts people. I kinda feel like they are hiding behind staffing issues or covid fallout to have no maid service and only buffet.  There seemed to be plenty of staff.
