Azure Gate Bed And Breakfast

Tucson

Was a wonderful experience! Went for birding Southeast Arizona. This location was centrally located to most birding hot spots. Located close to a grocery store since eating out could be a problem had everything in the refrigerator there. A washer dryer was available also. Lots of room in this beautiful house. The grounds were full of life birds, lizards, Javelinas, all different types of cacti. Bird feeders were active all the time. You couldn't meet two nicer people than Dennis and Christine they will do what ever they can to help you enjoy your stay! Overall I have not stayed at a nicer place. I will be going back!

OASIS IN THE DESERT

Like so many travelers, I just had to cancel my reservation.  Dennis and Christine were understanding and processed my refund.  A Bed and Breakfast is the poster child for small, independent family businesses and it was so hard to cancel my 5 day reservation knowing what an economic blow it would be to this family run B&B.  All I can do is tell you all that every call I made to them when I made my reservation and when I cancelled was promptly returned and my refund was practically instant.  I can't wait for our world to return to order so that we can make a new reservation at Azure Gate and enjoy their beautiful property and top-rated hospitality.

Outstanding Customer Service

Hosts Dennis and Christine couldn’t be nicer or more welcoming. They have thought of everything to make their guests’ experiences as pleasant as possible. The buildings and grounds are beautiful and impressively clean. Comfortable bed. Breakfasts each morning are a delight. Such delicious food! Great location for exploring the area, too— just a 15 minute drive to either Saguaro National Park East or to Sabino Canyon. 

Wonderful B&B

We stayed at the Azure Gate for the first time in 2007 and have returned every year since for a winter retreat from the Midwest, and a few additional times in the fall season. The desert is new every time we visit and the happiness of the Azure Gate likewise brings a smile to our faces.

We have enjoyed the wonderful accomodations and the kindness and helpful actioins of Christine and Dennis; they have made every effort to help us with our traveling challenges and serve us (and all their guests) with great food, beautiful and clean surroundings, artistic settings at the table and around the property.

14 years of great memories at the Azure Gate

We had a truly lovely stay at Azure Gate and can't wait to visit again in the future. We were visiting Tucson from NYC for a family reunion taking place nearby and were so grateful to find this gem of a B&B where we could also have our own escape and vacation. The house and the property (which we took strolls out) were absolutely beautiful and each morning we woke up to a spectacular breakfast. The hosts were lovely as were the other guests. This is a very special place full of charm and character and we very much hope to visit again soon.

Beautiful oasis within Tucscon

We spent four nights at the Azure Gate and could not have been more pleased.  The location on the north side of Tucson is perfect for hiking and going to Mt. Lemon and Sabino Canyon.  There are good restaurants in the area so need to drive too far for supper.

Our room was very good and we had everything we needed.  

The property is large and the house is comfortable.  There are excellent spaces for sitting by the pool or sitting in the living room to read.  If you need information for local attractions or restaurant selections, there is ample material to review.  Dennis has numerous wildlife photos available to look at and they are outstanding

Breakfast is wonderful.  We stay at many B & B's and Dennis makes the best breakfast.  His innovative selections and presentations are the highlight of the stay!  

The Azure Gate is very affordable and I would suggest booking well in advance if you are planning a trip to Tucson.

Christine and Dennis are caring hosts and we cannot wait to return.

First Time and Not the Last!

It's hard to say more than has already been said in the glowing reviews.  This gem of a B&B feels like an oasis in the desert.  Every comfort has been given and as with everyone else I am in awe of the breakfasts Dennis makes every morning!   The rooms are comfortable and have everything you could want.  There is a room full of DVDs of every movie  you could want to see including some you didn't know about. 
 The decor is sophisticated southwest with something interesting to look at in all directions.  The pool is lovely, if only it had been warm enough to swim!  The birds on the property are plentiful and easy to see.  We'll definitely come again!

Perfect spot in the desert

Location – Edge of town nearest the mountain, Sonoran desert hiking, aircraft and missile museums. Tucson has heavy traffic and this location minimizes the heavy traffic. It is near the best restaurant we found, the Eclectic Café.

 

Food – Sorry, but English lacks the words to effectively convey the pleasure of eating the gourmet breakfasts prepared by Dennis (who is also a nature photographer and published writer). The flavor, texture, appearance, and quantity are all excellent. Best breakfast I have ever eaten? Oh, yesssssss. Dennis Jeeps to the store every morning early to ensure the food is fresh. He snips fresh herbs from his poolside garden minutes before he adds it to the meal.

The Eclectic Café is nearby and was so satisfying we ate there 5 times in 1 week. Broad menu, great service, fair price. No other restaurant we tried was as good, regardless of price.

 

Character and Atmosphere – It is not new, but the home’s shared spaces (living, dining, kitchen, poolyard, the grounds) are very large and comfortable.  The room we stayed in was plenty large, but the in suite bathroom is a bit small and could benefit from some hooks and shelves. The well selected décor is abundant. The plant life of the 5 acre yard is beautiful. There is no grass. Walk on well-maintained granite(?) gravel among perfect aloes, cacti, and small trees of a variety I have never seen. Our home state has none of the plants Azure Gate (and the Sonoran desert) has, and vice versa, so we found it constantly interesting to see the plant life. Hummingbirds around the flowers of the cool water swimming pool, are common and close up. We enjoyed early morning walks up the almost-no-traffic roads to see the homes and landscaping of nearby affluent property owners in the area.

The location is safe from crime and the room was clean. 

 

The Hosts – Dennis and Christine have interesting life stories to tell and it is refreshing to hear Christine explain how much she loves the Tucson location and life.



Vacation 

We noticed an immediate difference between this B&B and others we have stayed at, because all the other guests had been coming there for many years.  This was surprising, as none of the couples had family in the area, and Tucson is after all, a limited city in terms of tourism ... 3 days should cover it.

After we spent those 3 days, we knew the answer.  The innkeepers Dennis and Christine have somehow managed to provide an environment that feels like you are spending a few days with extended family (the good kind of extended family you always wished you had!). 

The talk between the guests and the innkeepers around the breakfast table literally went on for 90 minutes (unusual since most tourists want to be out early to see the sites), and the breakfasts were ... well suffice to say that Dennis is a master chef and several his dishes are works of culinary art.

The B&B is very secluded and private, and the whole experience was a great romantic getaway.  I don't know the next time we'll be coming back to Tucson, but like the other guests we met, if we do, it would be unthinkable to stay anywhere else.

Highly recommended ... the sort of place you want to give 6 stars to.

LIke being with family

Annually, we unite with four friends who live in different parts of the country.  Azure Gate is the nicest place we have ever stayed at. It is a beautiful bed and breakfast in the middle of the Sonoran desert.  We slept in one of the houses that had three of its own patios.  Throughout the grounds are unique sculptures and in the houses are exquisite wild life photography by Dennis. The ambiance is serene and peaceful. The breakfasts were exceptional and creative! Both Dennis and Christine are wonderful and interesting hosts.  We will return.
