I don't think you'd ever find this beautiful oasis in the desert. Host: Steffi and John are great. Rooms: Very generous. Breakfast: individually and lovingly prepared. We regretted not being able to stay any longer. If Tucson, then definitely this place!

A hidden gem

This bnb was  perfect. The location was excellent for our cycling climb of Mt. Lemmon and a hike in the nearby Saguaro National Park. The swimming pool was ideal for cooling down in the high temperatures. But especially the host John is amazing. He prepared the best breakfast ( every day another surprise dish) and gave tips of the surroundings. 
It was really the best stay of our 3-week roadtrip!

Exceptional bnb!

The moment we were greeted by John we realised that this was a home from home, we were staying in the separate guest house but make sure you take John up on his offer for breakfast - they are all amazing and different every day.  The property itself is so secluded and quiet, the desert around stunningly beautiful.  John is helpful and told us about the many trails and things to do in Tucson, we were there primarily to see the airplane graveyard and the Pima air and space museum but in hindsight wish we had stayed longer.  The beds are really comfy and the showers great.  Thank you John and Steffi for a wonderful stay.  Piece of advice which John will also tell you, the Tanque Verde ranch is just down the road - go there for drinks but do not eat there, the food is awful!

Amazing secluded desert retreat

My wife and I have returned many times to stay at Desert trails because the accommodation is perfect for our needs and wants, and because the inn keepers are wonderful, providing delicious breakfast to give us a great start to the day, and providing all the helpful information on what to do and where to go. We love the cool swimming pool after a long day of sightseeing in the sun. It's fun meeting the other guests and exchanging information about what was fun and exciting to do nearby, and getting to know each other. 

Our first choice to stay in Tucson 

We were greeted outside the front door by a hummingbird who had a tiny nest built in the overhead lamp.  It was the first of many wonderful things about this bed and breakfast. Our Mica Room was large, with a seating area and a huge bathroom. The pool area was quiet and it was great fun to watch the many hummingbirds land on the trees and eat at the feeder. Breakfast was fantastic and John made sure to check with me about my peanut allergy, which I really appreciated. Steffi's homemade breads were delicious.  There is a fridge with water and snacks and coffee and tea available all day, if you would like some.  Lots of books and pamphlets on Arizona are scattered about. The house is across the street from Saguaro National Park, you can hear horses behind the house, and look up at night and see many, many stars.   We absolutely loved our stay here. Thank you John and Steffi for the wonderful hospitality.

A Wonderful Place to Stay

This B &B is off the beaten trail.  Very quiet. At the end of noisy E Speedway.  
The hosts, John and Steffi, made you feel at home from the moment you arrived. Water and soda in the communal fridge.  Just take. Snacks available all day. John made a great breakfast in the morning and could accommodate multiple food allergies.  Steffi’s homemade bread was excellent. They could not do enough for their guests.  
The room was huge. Included a wood fireplace that we used every night as the temperature was frigid.  Enormous ensuite.  Great for chilling.  The location is beside a horseback riding stable and within 2 miles of a great trailhead and hiking.  Great value.  Great atmosphere.

John and Stephanie are the best host and hostess ever. The breakfasts are absolutely incredible with homemade bread each day, fresh fruit, and very creative and delicious pancakes, roasted apples with yogurt and berries and extraordinary egg dishes.

Their home is inviting with incredible cacti, lovely pool area, and a haven for birders. 

There were a variety of visitors we shared breakfast with, and each one was very interesting and a totally agreeable group. John is a fount of information on Tucson recreation areas, restaurants and other things to do. So glad to have visited Southwest and stayed in such a lovely B&B. I can’t say enough good things about the week that we stay there. It was a fabulous vacation!

Fabulous southwest B&B

The hospitality, friendliness, and readiness to accomidate shown by John and Stephi ensured our stay was most enjoyable.  The beauties of the Sonoran desert environment are close at hand and John and Stephi will gladly help you explore further. Local visitors include a variety of birds  (Gila woodpecker, road runners, goldfinches) and coyotes in the distance. A stay with these folks is most enjoyable as each day starts with a hearty and tasty breakfast prepared by John and his chickens! R&B: Bellingham Jan. 2023

Sonoran desert immersion

Overall a great experience.  We've been to Tucson many times but our first time at Desert Trails.  The location, next to Saguaro Nat'l Park East was so handy, we bought a week's pass and went most days.  There are many good places to eat on the northeast side of Tucson plus several grocery stores and as we rented the guesthouse we spent a bit of time cooking for ourselves. Truthfully we had cereal in the mornings and ate a big meal out everyday.  John and Steffi provide breakfast for those other customers who do not stay in the guesthouse or breakfast can be purchased for a small price for guesthouse customers; we did this twice and the breakfasts were hearty and very good.  The king-sized bed was unbelievably comfortable which is a very important factor to completely enjoying one's stay.  The yard is perfect with lots of cacti and succulents all around the property.  We had a very relaxing time.  There's lots to do and see in Tucson but it is also great to just sit back and relax.

Already missing the desert hideaway.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights over the Thanksgiving holiday. The semi-rural setting is peaceful yet easily accessible to Saguaro National Park (for which John provided trail maps.) There's nothing better than a good hike or even neighborhood walks after one of his delicious breakfasts!
On previous visits, based on our interests, John suggested two different wildlife areas. This time,
in order to avoid Black Friday traffic on the way home to Prescott, he suggested that we experience the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix. A wonderful venue which we will further explore, certainly next time we return to see John and Steffi at Desert Trails.
