My partner and I recently enjoyed a stay at the Hacienda Del Sol in Taos, NM, specifically in the La Casita suite, which proved to be a fantastic choice for couples. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the wood fireplaces, which added a cozy and romantic ambiance to our evenings.

However, our delightful experience was somewhat marred by cleanliness and maintenance issues. Upon arrival, we were greeted by cobwebs in many corners of the suite, indicating a lack of thorough cleaning. Additionally, the kitchen not only lacked updates but also did not meet our cleanliness expectations, which was disappointing for a suite at this price point.

We also encountered problems with the electrical setup in the suite. Many of the switches did not function correctly, leading to frustration and inconvenience as we tried to navigate the lighting in the space. Furthermore, the small kiva fireplace in the bedroom, while a charming feature, proved difficult to use due to a lack of clear instructions.

Given these issues, it’s our opinion that the La Casita suite is in dire need of a renovation. For the price per night, we expected a higher standard of accommodation, especially in terms of cleanliness, modern amenities, and overall maintenance.

While the Hacienda Del Sol offers a charming and potentially romantic getaway in Taos, our recent experience leads us to explore other options for our next visit. We hope that our feedback encourages improvements that will enhance the experience for future guests.

Charming Yet In Need of Attention: A Mixed Experience at La Casita, Hacienda Del Sol, Taos NM

Nestled on the historic Mable Dodge Lane road in Taos, New Mexico, a historic, charming and beautifully decorated Inn awaits you  with all of the comforts of home.  The proprietors, Blair and Michael, spared no expense in appointing the rooms in a contemporary fashion with high quality beds, linens, refrigerator and other amenities while maintaining the charm and original tile work, kiva fireplaces, and viga ceilings, that one can imagine were viewed by iconic artists Ansel Adams, Georgia O’Keefe, DH Lawrence and Frank Waters.  We enjoyed gazing at the stars from the jacuzzi, and the scrumptious breakfast served in the common dining area where guests could exchange their experiences of the day and their travels, or spend quiet time in the common living room where yoga mats, board games, and literature on local artists could be enjoyed.  We look forward to returning to this lovely and welcoming Inn.

Beautiful & Well Appointed Taos Inn

I’ve stayed here pre-covid and before ownership change.  The property is run by 2 staff guys who are sufficient for running the operation, but perhaps less suited to providing a warm hospitality that an owner presence might provide.   Check in is automated with assigned parking and your room access code given to you ahead of arrival via text to your smartphone (there are no keys).  Breakfast is deluxe continental, but with one of the staff members making eggs to order.   And as in my previous visit, there are no televisions in the rooms.   But, you can’t beat the view (photo if from the El Pueblo room)

Still Charming despite some cutbacks

The history of  Hacienda del Sol is intriguing.  Our room was clean & comfortable, the bed was nice.  The only negative was the sidewalks which were made of broken stone pavers which made it hard to walk.  For folks with walking challenges, I would recommend somewhere else to stay.  The breakfast was substantial & delicious.

Loved Our Room!

This place is out of the way, thus quiet. The room was quaint and clean, though small. It did not have a TV which is okay but wish they would list it that way. The breakfast was good and healthy. I would stay here again.

Very rustic place in the trees

We love Taos and we love all of the B&Bs we have stayed at several times. We go between this lovely B&B , Dream Catcher and Casa Gallina . They are the best in their mystique ways. Taos is mystique!!!
My complaints recently here. Where is the charming wall art, bed covers that were once before? It reminded me of Pottery Barn on a budget. New owners please do not cheesy it up and take away the charm. This is Taos not some boring conservative place without charm. 
The best qualities and must keep with high regard are :
Birch and Eva add life ,quality and a reason to come back!!!!
Also I love  the coffee machines and keep the Lavazza . If you change step it up to Illy .

Bring back some color!!!!

We found this place on a cross country road trip to California, we rented the large Casita which is a small home! We loved it here so much that we extended another day to make it 3 nights. The Casita has 2 kiva fireplaces a full large kitchen and large living space. There was a snowstorm one day so we just enjoyed our home. Breakfast was wonderful with many hot and cold choices, coffee everywhere to include Kurig in the Casita. The owners were very friendly and helpful, they are new owners within the last year, they are replacing some furniture and doing updates but not taking away the history. Mike and Blair gave us many places to see and dine they were very sweet and helpful and attentive.  In Summary we will always come back to this place every year and recommend it to family and friends.  Also to the individuals that gave this place bad reviews, please don't come here, it leaves vacancies for people who enjoy and appreciate a wonderful place like Hacienda Del Sol  Taos. After traveling for years I have to say it's our new favorite place.


A wonderful place to get away

Hacienda de Sol is a breath of fresh air anytime of year! This was my 2nd visit and both times Breath-taking views, comfy rooms, delicious a breakfasts, and friendly owners/staff!! I can’t recommend this place enough

Overnight Getaway

Great place to stay!  The room was spotless, bed was so so for comfort and the surrounding property was awesome.  Only complaint might be that our bathroom sink took forever to drain.  Breakfast was awesome and loved the dining area.  Would definitely come back to stay again the next time we're in Taos.

Awesome out of the way place!

We enjoyed a pleasant respite here on our recent trip. There are lovely courtyards with seating overlocking the adjacent mountains. Our bed was extremely comfortable and the room very clean; however the room could stand to have some modest updates.
