for an older building I was pleasantly pleased with it's upkeep and it's cleanliness. Stayed in a handicapped room. Easy access to everything in the room. Will stay here again.

Yes very pleasant stay staff and grounds keeper very friendly, rooms were clean, nicely decorated and comfy, we enjoyed our stay.

What started as a nightmare due to poor communications between the third party and the hotel was averted by the hotel manager who did his best to make a bad situation better we got our room our road trip wasn’t affected and we were happy

Nice place and good restaurant right there

We rented several rooms. Everything was fine, you can tell the hotel has been undergoing renovations to make it nicer. They still have some ways to go but I can say we will be back!

Room was super clean, spotless! Breakfast was good. Room amenities were excellent! When have you been offered a Comb or Toothbrush or Cotton Swabs as part of the Bathing items. Great Value for the Money!

Had a great 2 night stay.  Loved that the room had no carpet, a microwave and frig with freezer (great for freezing water bottles for hiking).  I also liked the included continental breakfast.My only complaint is coming down the stairs from my 2nd floor room 234 and the smokers underneath since there was a bench there and seemed to be a designated smoking area.

Little snag with check-in but staff was awesome and worked with us. Bring your own hair dryer (unless you want to go to the office). Shampoo, soap and lotion provided - I suggest you supply your own unless you are not picky. Decent restaurant next door. Coffee shop across the street. Fair amount of parking and right out front of lobby with plenty of lighting. Overall it was a good stay - nothing fancy but it was expected for the price. Staff was friendly and attentive, which also makes a huge difference.

Do not let the exterior fool you, this is a wonderful old motel. I don’t know about you, but old I can take but dirty I will not! No worries at this hotel, I had a King room with a large bathroom and everything was impeccably clean! The bed was comfy and everything was perfect. For the price, you cannot go wrong! I had an excellent stay and couldn’t complain about anything!

Give this place a chance!

My husband and I, along with two kids and two dogs, had our truck transmission go out on our way up from Tucson, through the back mountains to Alpine, and these folks could not have been more accommodating and nicer when we arrived - just before closing time.  We were so stressed and they were so kind, the room was clean and just what we needed to get cleaned up and rest overnight .  We will most definitely stay here a gain!!

Needed a Room in an Emergency

This was our second year of staying at this hotel with our motorcycle group of 15 bikes and 20+ people.  They had a welcome sign and snacks 
 and drinks in the lobby for us, very nice after riding all day.  They were the only hotel we stayed in that got our reservations correct on our trip.  There are 2 decent restaurants within walking distance.  If we head in that direction next year, I know we will be staying there.  Rooms are clean and very reasonable priced.

Great locally owned hotel

This was our 3rd stay in 3 years at the EL JO ( named after original owners Ella and Joe) and it consistently meets our needs. It's older, a bit Route 66ish and great. All the employees are super friendly, accommodating and biker friendly. Office provides coffee, cookies mid-afternoon. Rates reasonable (AARP/AAA discounts), beds comfy, bath accommodating and rooms include microwave, coffee maker, frig. Hair dryers loaned free upon request. TV and WIFI good. Restaurant shares parking lot and offers discount to motel guests.

Clean, Comfortable and Friendly

Small town motel.  A little old but well taken care of for it's age.  Clean and quiet.

We didnt spend much time at the motel. It was basically a place to sleep, in that respect ot performed very well.
