We were staying in Turkey, but were told we had to go visit Matador Hotel. We are so pleased we did, even though we just visited and weren’t staying, we could not have been treated any better if we had been VIP guests. We were greeted with smiling faces and the most helpful couple ( inn owners). They took their time to show us empty rooms so we could see the accommodations, treated us to the BEST bakery treats (homemade). Gave us the keys to see the jail museum having just met us. Shared some of the history involving the arrows you see, I’ll let you learn that history yourselves :) Definite must stay if ever in Matador!!!!

There's no way around it: this motel will not win awards for beautiful architecture or surroundings. It's a brick building surrounded by chain-link fence, with one entry/exit for cars. Also, while it is close-ish to downtown San Antonio, it is not very walkable if you don't wish to drive/pay for parking. 

The service from the staff was fantastic. I arrived at night after four hours' drive and the people on duty were kind, professional, and more than willing to provide dinner suggestions nearby. (The place I ultimately went, one recommended by them, was superb.) The room was very comfortable, very clean, and surprisingly spacious. It's a definite step up in quality from budget motels like Motel 6 or Super 8. They put a couple bottles of water and small snacks in each room before check-in, which is a nice touch. (No meals provided, but Jack in the Box is across the street.)

The motel staff does not by default do daily linen changes/cleanings. I'm saying this is a good thing because I'm a hardier traveler who doesn't mind sleeping in the same sheets for a few days, or reusing towels. (It saves water!) However, if you DO want daily service, just ask them at the front desk when you check in if they will take care of that for you. They'll oblige happily, and do a great job in the process. 

I tried this place because everything else was very overpriced due to the Garth/Trisha concert.  I'm glad I did.  The room was very clean. AC worked well.  Bed was super comfortable.  It was a residential neighborhood, but i felt very safe and slept well.  The only odd thing...  If you are going to shower in the afternoon, you will have to let the water run a while to get cold water.  Apparently their pipes are above the ground and the water gets hot if it sits in them.  Although, most people probably shower in the am. LOL  This place had free parking and was also close to everything.  Also wifi did not work in the room, only by the lobby

I selected this motel because it was close to a workplace class I was taking.  There is nothing special about the accommodations, but the room was quiet and the bed was comfortable.  I had some problems with my first room and the desk clerk the first night (I stayed four nights).  The next day the owner moved me to another room and took pains to assure that all was well in the new room.  The Matador is located in a modest but well-kept neighborhood.  It was very close to my class and served well enough.  A note for business travelers--the motel cannot print off itemized receipts.

The rooms for nice and cheap. Not too far from downtown which perfect away from downtown commotion but only a 5 min drive away which was very convenient. Prices were great and rooms were great and comfortable. Definitely will come back to the place great hospitality from a generous staff. Very helpful to a stranger in town

Simple and Quiet

"Good Times"

Stayed for two nights.
The place can use a little work.  Plaster falling off the back wall and in the shower
No hook on the door in the bathroom to hang something.  Shower mat should be
thrown out - can't believe they left it in the bath tub.  No lobby to speak of - no
complimentary breakfast.   Lighting was extremely poor.  No desk lamp to write
my cards - only a table with two straight back chairs - upon which I kept stubbing
me toe because the bottom had a board across it.
But can't complain - the price was right - plenty of towels - sheets were clean
room had a fridge.   But no eating places walking distance.
