An alternative to the vanilla "brand" hotels with cookie cutter accomodations and service. The Hotel Portsmouth oozes with character and the front desk and service team are exceptionally accomodating. Perfect location within walking distance of most Portsmouth restaurants, museums, music, live stage and movie venues. Shopping, of course. The rooms are clean and rooms on the first three floors are also served by an elevator. The original portion of the building fronting on Court Street is dressed in a typical stick architectural style exterior with late 19th century oak wainscotting interior along with an awesome oak staircase. The breakfast room is dignified but not snobby. Limited breakfast choices, but all day coffee and hot water for tea. A lovely facility consistent with the historic nature of Portsmouth. Highly recommend. Other than the limited breakfast food there are no other food choices nor adult beverages available in-house, but with hundreds of outstanding dining and drinking establishments just a short walk away...not a problem.
