4 reviewsWe stayed just one night, a last minute stopover booking on the way back from a weekend on Block Island. Its not your typical Newport Inn or B&B, being in a modern building of no great charm, and with what my wife called "bachelor pad" furniture - albeit all comfortable and fully equipped. We had the rooftop apartment (no 3), which was low ceilinged and dark, up two flights of stairs, the second set steep and winding. Although the staff were friendly, service was not as slick as you would expect from a mainstream inn - booking.com's booking, confirmed to us, had not reached the inn (for us or for the other guests on another booking arriving to the downstairs apt at the same time). The Wifi did not work on any of our devices, and despite promises they did not fix it or even get the ISP on the line to assist. And they forgot to give us the keypad code for the main door to the building, resulting in my wife being locked out for 30 minutes after an early morning walk. On the plus side, the apartment is quite spacious, with two double bedrooms, a bathroom, a large open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area (fully equipped), and best of all, up a further flight of steps is a lovely wooden deck, with chairs, a table and a hammock, with prime views over the baseball stadium right below. It was a good price for a large space for a family of 4 (just over $200 with a late booking discount via booking.com), and in a very good location for the harbour - just 2 blocks from the ferry and 1 from the Newport visitor centre, which has a large public parking space (Mudville has none unless you get lucky with a spot on the street outside). The location was quiet at night, but was only a few blocks' walk from busy Thames St with lots of dining and shopping. The pub downstairs looked good, although we did not eat there.
