I think this is my 7th trip to this campground and it won't be my last! I stayed in a camping cabin for 5 days and it had everything we needed.  

The facilities are clean, the camp store is well stocked (love the beer selections!) and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.

We just returned from our 5th visit to North Pole Resorts. We tent camp and have never been disappointed. We have NEVER had issues with any of the staff. I'm shocked to see so many reviewers saying that they do. This is one of the best campgrounds we have been to. Sites are well maintained and facilities are extremely clean. Quiet hours are also honored, which we greatly appreciate. This is our go-to in this region and look forward to returning.

We spent a week here in June 2021. The area was not busy at all, we heard that the closed Canadian border is hurting tourism here. After a long drive to get here, I was glad that there was so much to do within just a few miles of this resort. We loved the hiking and mountain bike trails (Flume trails, Hardy Road, Noreen, Poorman's downhill and Wilmington bike park), AuSable chasm, Veteran's memorial highway (which is expensive, though), kayaking, mini golf and game rooms right at the campground, and cliff jumping at flume falls just down the road (be careful, there is only one deep place where it is safe to jump). 100 acre woods campsites were wooded and wifi was spotty but adequate. Cute town with restaurants and shops within walking distance. The Little Supermarket has your gas, groceries, and sandwiches. Hubby had fun trying new beers from the camp store. Highly recommended!

We are new to RVing. 2021 we have enjoyed RVing on weekend getaways.  We stayed at the North Pole Resort 100 Acre Wood side.  Nestled in the Wilmington, NY. Adirondack Park Region near Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain. The 100 Acre Wood side is a true Adirondack Setting.  Very Spacious full hook up sites.  This is a gem and it only 90 minutes away for us.  Walking distance to main office with store. Several restaurants up or down the highway.  Walking distance of course. And an ole fashioned A&W. For my wife and I being retired the 100 acre wood side is so very peaceful and quiet.  Check in was very easy as we paid in advance. We were sent an email explaining what to do upon arrival which was very appreciated. Just a suggestion if you want a campfire pick up the bundle(s) before you leave registration office/store if you are In Motorhome without tow.  This is a definite return place.

What a find!  We were pleasantly surprised as last minute decision to spend a week in Lake Placid and this campground was perfect location.   The location is really ideal as right on the river but small with only limited number of RV sites but yet had plenty of amenities.  The staff was very friendly even suggesting to check local KOA when looking for RV part.  The staff was seen all day cleaning and maintaining the property.  The pools were spotless and bathhouse were very clean.   The view from CG of Whiteface every morning was great way to start day.  All the Christmas decorations was nice touch.   We also liked the private campfire areas that were setup behind each RV site.  This place had everything and best of all was ability to walk to local places just down the road from CG like A&W, local beach along river, chocolate store, ice cream shop, liquor store, etc.   Plus all the local attractions were minutes from the campground and Lake Placid was easy 15min drive.   Highly recommend and would stay again without a doubt.    We can't wait to go back as our favorite sites was Whiteface Mtn summit drive, renting boat on Lake Placid, shopping in Lake Placid, hiking and high falls tour.

We needed a vacation from the virus so we came up here to hike and kayak. Still skittish about touching things so we decided to stay in the Baxter bungalow. That way we could make our own food and have our own bathroom. 

The Baxter was extremely clean when we walked in (we wiped it down again anyway 🤷‍♂️). The people in the main office were very nice and it was easy to social distance while we were there, even on the mini golf course.

No real negatives. Shower worked pretty well but the WiFi and tv were spotty. Well worth a 5 star rating.

We stayed in the newly built Skylight cabin in the 100 Acres side of the resort.  It was well-made and had a great view of WhiteFace Mountain.  It came with a brand new fire pit and four chairs.  The inside living room had a two person sofa and a high top table for four.  It had a TV with cable channels available and a fan.  The blinds worked great, and there was a bottle opener on the wall!  The first room had a queen bed, and the back room had two bunk beds with double beds on the bottom, twin on top.  Each bedroom had hooks and a bench.  Outside there was a large picnic table that could fit 8 people comfortably.  It was a short walk down the hill to the bathroom, and we could watch our kids playing on the playground from our deck.  If you don't mind walking to the bathroom, it was a site I would recommend for a family.

There were COVID precautions taken in all places, though some employees seemed to be more serious about them than others who were complaining about them.   

You could easily walk 10 minutes to local restaurants or the town beach.  Wilmington has a few restaurants, and it's not too long of a drive to get to Lake Placid and other hiking trails.

I'm not sure if it would seem overcrowded in normal circumanstances this time of year, but it was a great place to stay and distance, but still feel like you got away for a vacation.

We stayed here for two nights. Clean clean clean. Well cared for campground. We stayed in the Gothic cabin, and it had everything we needed. The bathrooms are spotless and the showers are clean and warm. Little store has anything you could need, and more you don't need but want. Haven't explored all the grounds yet, but would come again.

we stayed two nights everything good.   Our room was clean and comfortable only problem was location of air conditioner in room. Everyone working there is very friendly and helpful. Our tv did not work and someone came right away to fix the problem.   Would return in the future.

We were supposed to stay in Tupper Lake at a campground. Pulled in and it was not good.  So I googled Lake Placid campgrounds ....North Pole came up. Made a call and they couldn’t have been more accommodating...told them we would arrive in an hour...travel trailer in tow.  They recommended the 100 acre sites across the street from office.  We had the best site...big, very private and full amenities!  The bathrooms were new and very clean.  We always saw people cleaning the sites, picking up garbage and they were there to answer any questions we had.  They even helped us back in !  We will definitely recommend and visit again!

I try to avoid commerical campsites and stay at state or national park sites. I was hesitant about this campground initially but was pleasantly surprised with our RV site in the 100 acres section. Nice pull through site with full hookups but still enough tree cover and more privacy than I expected at a KOA.
Wifi was available at the site itself but spotty cell phone coverage with Tmobile.

Firewood service where they delivered it right to your site. Also came by frequently to pick up any garbage bags left at your site.

Pleasantly Surprised!

This is now a KOA. We stayed at this new KOA recently and I'm torn on the verdict of this place. There are great things about this place and some improvements that can be made. It currently feels like it's in the middle of a transition and is lacking a lot of amenities other KOA's have. Read whole review for the full scoop!

Background: We stay at the Whiteface KOA and several other state parks several times in the summer. We mostly tent camp but sometimes rent cabins or glamping at the whiteface KOA. My review is based on my experience with other parks in the area compared to this one.

Staff: I read several reviews on Tripadvisor and google before arriving here. Most of the reviews talked about rude staff. I experienced none of that during my trip. The check in staff were friendly, corrected a mistake when booking was made and refunded some money due to veteran discount. My kid wasn't yelled at, no one was rude to me at my campsite. The staff delivered 2 bundles of firewood to me after i ordered it on the phone. Super helpful and kind when I ordered a Kayak. 

The registration office is now the camp store and is located on the 100 acre side. The store that I assume was in the reviews on the resort side is now closed. This was kind of a bummer since I like to walk to the store and poke around at the other KOA. 

Campground is split into two sections. Which is the 100 acre woods & the river resort side. The 100 acre woods has a ton of nice private and pull through type slots for RV's. There's some cabins in front and tent sites located in the far back. My review only covers my experience on the resort side. 

The river resort side where we stayed is more tent friendly. There are some small shed cabins, nicer RV spots. and an area just for tenting. That area has nice spots but there is a lack of privacy in the middle area. There is a fire ring and a picnic table at each site. Each site has a tons of shade from the big pine trees. There are no "Sand pads" on any of the sites. There are semi flat areas to place your tent down. Some rocks do come out of the ground slightly so keep that in mind when selecting a spot. 

We stayed on the waterfront resort side in a tent. The tent site was right on the water near the kayak rental shack. There are only 3-4 sites that are right on the river the other 3 are also RV spots. You can fish right off of the site on the Ausable river. There is also a picnic area that everyone can access to check out the water and fish. There is no swimming there, but a little bit down the highway there is the Wilmington public beach. Besides a handful of RVs and one tent camper, the tent sites were empty. 

The bathrooms and showers were very clean. The bathroom by the tents/rv area have 4 stalls and 1 shower. The toilet paper is 1-ply and kinda sucks. The stalls are also kinda small and a few of the toilets are off center so pooping at an angle was annoying at times. However, they were cleaned twice a day and always clean!  They are also a very short walk from most of the tent sites. There are showers located at the big building in the front of the park, but its a small hike from the tent area. 

Issues: 
All of the amenities except kayak rental outdoor playground were closed. Pool was closed despite looking pristine and is gated. We had an exceptionally cold weekend when we stayed at this KOA so swimming wasn't really in the plans for a non-heated pool. The whiteface KOA has a heated pool and we could have used theirs according to this KOA. However, it was about a mile away and we weren't in the mood to swim in 55* weather. 

Mini golf was closed, the mechanical doo-dads weren't on. There wasn't instructions on how to get mini-golf posted. We did inquire about it when we were renting Kayaks on the second day. On our first evening, we inquired about how to play it and were told since the office was closed at 6:00 pm mini golf was closed. I supposed it is available to play, however how the clubs and details weren't readily available. In comparison, the whiteface KOA store and mini-golf are open very late in the evening. 

Kayak rentals were awesome and affordable. They have 2-3 2 person kayaks but 1 of them looked super busted. They have 3-4 canoes and several 1 person kayaks.  20.00 a person for two hours which is way more affordable than other places i have rented Kayaks. The kayak rental shack is located on the only tent side water site where we were staying. It was super convenient for us to just walk from our tent, launch into the water at our leisure and head up the river. While Kayaking we say Osprey's catching fish, saw whiteface mountain in the distance, passed the public beach, and went all the way up 2 miles to where the river turns into impassible streams due to shallowness. But a cool place to park the kayak and relax.
KAYAK WARNING- this isn't posted anywhere on the water, on the KOA or near the hazard. If you go left 1000 yards from the KOA launch site, there is a town damn that drops down near the bridge. Before renting the Kayak make sure you ask for what to avoid. 

Overall, it was a very quiet and peaceful campground. We might check this place out in a year or two to see if the amenity situation has improved. It's a good place for families or others seeking a quiet getaway on the river.

New KOA feels like it's in transition, needs amenities, overall good stay.

Well maintained campground that was ideal location to Lake Placid area attractions

Stayed for 4 days. Location is awesome. Directly on the Ausable River. Easy walk to Whitebrook Dairy ice cream stand, walk to Wilmington Town Beach, walk to fishing gear shops, walk to Fratelli Pizza, walk to A&W family restaurant. Long walk or short drive to Wildlife Refuge, bike or long walk to other parks with Tennis, skateboard park, bike course park etc. Very close drive to Flume Falls Trail and water hole (gorgeous and free). Short drive to Whiteface mountain, High Falls Gorge, Olympic ski jump arena, Mirror Lake and Lake Placid village. This location can not be beat. The views and sights are breathtaking. Mountains, cliffs, rocky rivers, boulders, waterfalls, lakes. 

Campground Pros: 

-location
-good camp store
-clean lower camp bathrooms
-two good pools
-reliable free WiFi
-quiet
-easy on-site kayak and boat rentals and launch directly off camp property. 
-cabins are spacious with several windows for air circulation and many useful hooks for hanging 

Campground Cons:

-dated rec rooms
-no open field available for throwing a frisbee, football or soccer ball
-the basketball area is small, all dirt, rickety
-heavy paint smell in upper camp showers with no windows
-our individual cabin “Whiteface” was a bit dingy. Floors and rug were yucky. The front room box spring was very dirty with pet hair, dust and mold. The back room door would not close it bumped into the bunk bed frame. There was a notch on the door and it didn’t even line up. The mirror in room was behind fridge and fan. This made the mirror unusable. Couldn’t reach mirror and fan had to be turned off so wind wouldn’t blow in your face when using mirror.

Another great trip!

We have stayed at this campground many times over the past 10 years and love the facilities and grounds. I was disappointed to discover that this property is now a KOA. It was previously a family-owned business. We did make reservations for 2 stays this year, hoping that the rustic nature of the 100 Acre Woods is maintained. The prices have gone up quite a bit, I guess someone has to pay the franchise fees! The woman I spoke to on the phone while making reservations told me that the Resort side of the campground would be closed for renovations for the entire season. Only the Woods section of the resort will be open. The store and check in are being relocated to the Woods side of the resort. One pool will open and a path to the river will be available. I am hoping KOA doesn't change too much...it was great as it was!

New Ownership - KOA

My family fell in love with the ADK region. We pulled our trailer twice to this park. We thought that the rudeness the first go around was just a result of COVID restrictions and a holiday weekend. Unfortunately, the second time we went, we were met with more disrespectful, rude behavior by both the store staff and the gentlemen who drove around. 

This was a great location and provided beautiful views. It is well maintained and clean. They just need to work on people skills. We will return to the region but not this campground.
