Rodeway Inn

I liked the people who run this hotel. They nicely checked me in at 1:30am after delayed flights. They kindly warned me not to walk around the neighborhood after dark. Not exactly warm (they're behind a plastic shield, the front door is always locked - I'm pretty sure this is all for good reason) but they're fair, honest. The street is not pretty (lots of construction) but it's actually well located in a main nightspot neighborhood of Memphis. I was charged about $80 per night for this room. At first glance, the room was nice - very big, stretching out a long distance with essentially a little living room and then the bed and then the bathroom. Average decor - not bedraggled, not super dated. I loved the bedding - it was comfy, clean and puffy. Room smelled good. The wifi worked really well. I also appreciated the black-out curtains. The wall unit AC was loud but worked overly well. Amenities included hairdryer, some bath products, little microwave, a fridge with freezer, wifi, TV, iron and board. I stayed 3 nights and increasingly realized the place was bordering on being in disrepair. Edges and corners were rough - it wasn't thoroughly clean and I'm not one of those picky people who complains about one stray hair in the bathroom. The shower got to be difficult to work - you had to turn the knob (which felt like it was going to fall off) just right to get the water to heat up without the system emitting a really loud squeal. The toilet started running non-stop by day 2 and I had to go into the tank twice to attach the rotting chain back onto the little lever. There was a coffee setup but I was only given decaf packets. I know I looked around for good deals so I suppose they can charge $80 and not repair stuff because of their location. They also provide a little cold cereal breakfast setup in the little lobby (no tables that I remember).
