Lake McDonald Lodge - Inside the Park

We were lucky and got a last minute reservation in the one of the dorm style rooms.  We were a little hesitant about shared bathrooms but we were pleasantly surprised how nice the rooms were and there was not any issues with shared bathroom.  Everything was clean and decorated very nice.

My spouse and I had a quick getaway to explore Glacier Park. Staying at this Lodge was beautiful and offered us free shuttle service to various hiking trails. Also, from this place we had access to boat rides, horseback riding and access to swim in the lake or just sit in a quiet place.  

We had a cabin overlooking the lake and it felt like something out of a movie. We slept like babies after rowing on the lake, hiking, driving the GTTS road and some cocktails in the lounge. Such a relaxing place. We can’t  wait to go back. 

Spent 1 night in a cute little cabin. This cabin had 2 full sized beds and a separate bathroom with shower only (sorry no pics of). There was a little heater in the bathroom, too. The cabin was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was just a short paved walk to the main lodge or non-paved walk down to the lake. Easy to navigate at night to do some star gazing, but bring a red light for walking! We ate in the lodge. The meal was ok (chicken was a little dry), but it was nice to see that they had some meal accommodations for vegan and gluten free.

We stayed at Lake MacDonald for 3 nights. Because I did not plan ahead each night was in a different room. We were able to experience every level of accommodation and each was perfectly acceptable for a family. 

We stayed in a Snyder room, a small cabin 2 doubles, and a deluxe 2 queen in the lodge. Obviously, the deluxe was amazing with softer bed linens and nicer amenities. The small cabin had quicker access to the lake and since we were close to Jammer Joe’s we had internet. The Snyder Hall room with bunks wasn’t bad either. 

In all honestly any lodging in the park is great because you’re in the park. You get access to Going to the Sun Road and the Lake MacDonald trails. 

Our kids loved ending the day in the water. There is no bad day in Glacier National Park. 

Staff, accommodations, food and setting on Lake McDonald could not have been more memorable.  Our experience was so much more than we could have imagined.  Our visit has been on our bucket list for years and this year--we made it!  The hard work and dedication by all who help to make a visit to Lake McDonald Lodge possible is to be commended.  

We stayed for 2 nights in a king facing the lake. While expensive, the amount of time you save by staying IN the park is well worth it. Lot's of traffic and distances means you really want to be in the park.  We also camped at Fish Lake for 3 nights, so we were able to do both, which I recommend.

Staff fantastic, room was very nice, and it was super quiet going to sleep. Great shower, comfy bed, and while buffet was the only option for dinner choices at $30 per person, it was good food and a good mix. Wifi was super slow, but did work in our cabin at the same speed at the lodge. You could check email, and that's about it.

We were catching a boat ride and arrived early  to have lunch in this marvelous, historic lodge.  However, the line for the fine dining room was extremely long so we bought the sawdust like sandwiches (although they say tuna, chicken salad etc they all taste like pickle relish) in the camp store and had a car picnic as it was raining.  No casual dining venues were open.   Loved every aspect of the lodge except the overcrowding.

Great place to eat. Arrive early so you don't need to wait. Food was definitely delicious and service was fantastic. It was a very memorable evening.
Enjoy a few minutes walking the grounds and sitting on the porch. Take the boat ride, too.

I made my first trip to Glacier Natl Park, from June 11-17, staying the first three nights at the Lake McDonald Lodge. A year before, I reserved a room in Snyder Hall, a small standalone building. The rooms in Snyder Hall do not have their own bathrooms (they do have a sink); there are shared bathrooms and showers. I knew this when I reserved. I found my room to be very clean and quiet, with a comfortable bed; I slept very well. I was impressed with how fastidiously clean the bathrooms -- especially the showers -- were.

Everyone on the staff was very friendly and helpful, and they all showed a real pride and pleasure in working there. I spent a fair amount of time in the lobby of the main building, and in the lovely reading room building across the creek from the main building, reading and using my laptop in the evenings.

I was extremely impressed by the quality of the food. I had dinner at the lounge each of the three nights. The salads were fresh, large, and excellent, and so was the 'Montana burger' with bacon that I had three nights in a row. They use reasonably local beef. The only breakfast option is a buffer, which was quite reasonable in price and excellent in quality and quantity. Mark, the bartender at dinner, and Cali, at the breakfast service in the main dining hall, were wonderful, friendly, and efficient servers.   

I'll very happily stay here again.

It is very typical of the lodges in US National Parks.  We have stayed at multiple national park lodges and Lake McDonald is very good.

The room was small. The bathroom was very small, with no where but a small glass ledge to put your toiletries. I hit that ledge with my head a couple times.  Not good.

There is no elevator. The portes had to carry the suitcases up. I am 69 and that would have been tough to do.  I did carry them down, because the bell staff wasn't around when we left about 19 am.

The restaurant was good.  we had breakfast and dinner there 3 days.  Food was good.  Staff was pretty good. 

Parking fills up and can be hard to get. Parking at the trail heads in Glacier National park is bad and the bus service is unreliable. It took hours to get a bus to Avalanche Falls.

Lake McDonald Lodge is  typical of the lodges in US National Parks.

Cute Little Cabin Stay

We stayed in the Cobb House. The rooms were clean and comfy., perfect size for our family of four. The porch was a nice place to have a quiet morning coffee. The shower was less than ideal but we made it work. The grounds of the hotel had everything we needed. The pizza restaurant was closed while we were there without notification which bummed out the kids. Loved the location and ease of shuttles with a stop right at the hotel.

Perfect Spot for Families with Littles

A gem set in beautiful Glacier National Park!

We stayed in cabin 4 for two nights. The room was comfortable but the bathroom was small. No issues with hot water. There was a wall heater you could turn on but I didn't notice any provision for A/C. While the cabin faced the lake, you couldn't see if from the window through the trees. Thought the lodge was expensive for what you got but there aren't many options for visiting the park. They don't clean the rooms during your stay.
Breakfast and lunch at the lodge were good; buffet dinner was not. All the staff was very nice and helpful.

Comfortable but Pricey

We stayed in a Small Cabin 2 Double for one night and it met our expectations.  The room was located in a bigger cabin facing the lake and only two minute walk from the main lodge.  We had an opportunity to stay in the 1 Queen bed inside the main lodge, but couldn't justify the price compared to the Small Cabin 2 Double.

FYI:
There is no refrigerator in the room  

The bathroom sink is outside of the shower/toilet

The room gets hot, but there was a fan

Even though reception said (very weak) WIFI can be reached in the main lodge, we were able to connect to it from the cain

There's nothing really to eat around the area unless you want to drive out of the park or to Apgar Village.  Lake McDonald Lodge has a restaurant, but they were only serving buffet style for dinner at $30/person.  The food wasn't that bad!

Very happy with our stay

Did not stay but visited and tried to have lunch-a wonderful lodge in aesthetic terms-but overcrowded.
