The Bluebird Motel

Highly accommodating and friendly front office (ex: let me do an early check in and called me when it was ready). The room was excellent - took me a little while to get used to the lower ceilings, but once you realize it's a snug hobbit hole, it's fantastic. There are lights all over the rooms, including USB chargers on them. No drafts, warm with adjustable heat (good for December in Maine). Shower pressure is top notch!

Best option between Ellsworth and Calais.

This motel was perfect for my husband and I. A nice clean, easy to access from road, affordable and comfortable beds.  Reasonable price and friendly staff.

Very friendly staff, convenient location, clean room.  Older establishment, but great for us.

Old school motel has been very well preserved and offers clean, quiet, and well-equipped rooms at reasonable prices.

The property is nicer than it looks in the pictures. Bed Linens and towels appeared new. Had refrigerator, microve, coffee in room. Nice store/ restaurant is right next to it.

I been staying at The Bluebird Motel for years and it’s always immaculately clean, great service and the best bang for your buck. Recently it’s super busy here in Machias due to the insane popularity of the Downeast Sunrise Trail.  It’s a epic rail to trail multi-recreational
Use trail for ATV’s , hikers and gravel and mountain bikers so it bring people in droves in the summer to experience its beauty.  Lucky for me they had one room left for just one night, but the wonderful young lady at the motel office asked me if there were any cancellations she would call me. And sure enough she called me and I got the last available room, it made my day! Especially there were no rooms available anywhere in the immediate area.

It’s always the best!

This is probably one of the smaller motels that I've stayed at, however, it was also surprisingly quiet (considering it was a packed house, I didn't hear a peep from my neighbors 👍) the rooms are well maintained, very clean and the person who greeted us was very friendly and answered a lot of our touristy questions. I booked two rooms as I was traveling with my folks (who snore) and we all had a good night's sleep! Definite recommendation for anybody looking for a good stop on a long drive :)

It is encouraging to see an old school motel being taken care of the way this property is.  Updated amenities where needed and older stuff taken great care to keep clean and serviceable.  Very comfortable bed quietest AC I’ve ever experienced.  Perfect stay.  Definitely would stay again and would recommend to others.

We've stayed at the Bluebird Motel on two occasions, for three nights each time. The rates are quite reasonable, and while probably an "older" motel, everything about it, inside and outside, is clean, comfortable, and welcoming. It's well outside the town business center. There are three long units,  and rooms in the back two where we've stayed are situated away from the highway and traffic noise. Our room was plenty big enough for two, with two comfortable beds, two upholstered chairs, a sizeable desk, large workspace, and storage drawers. Also, there's a microwave and good-sized minifridge. The bathroom is small but quite adequate in size and very clean. The staff were also friendly and helpful. Finally, a plus: right next door is a handy gas station with a restaurant and mini-mart.  Yes, we'll certainly stay there again.

Clean, comfortable, quiet, and reasonably priced.

Excellent! The office staff are very nice. The price is the best around. Parking right in front of your own door. The amenities in the room are all that anyone needs. And a Keurig coffee maker! We just stayed at a Hampton Inn in New Hampshire last week($$$$$) and it had one of those cheap little coffee makers that you put the little coffee bag into a tray.🥴 No thanks. We bring our own K cups. The room and bath are very clean. And the king bed and pillows are very comfortable. 
 Tom’s Mini Mart & Family Restaurant are right next door with excellent food! Especially breakfast!
 The Bluebird is in a good location for surrounding attractions. Bring your passport and go to Campabello Island and visit the summer home of the Roosevelts! 
 We are definitely coming back to spend more time!

Excellent clean rooms

Headed to Machias to tour the UMaine campus. I was reluctant at first because there were not many hotel options so we went with the Bluebird Motel. We were pleasantly surprised when we got there. Extremely clean and  friendly service at check-in. Beds were comfortable. There are some amenities offered in the main office.  Convenience A+… you can pull your car right up to your room and the UMaine campus is couple minute drive down the street. It is located a short distance from a McDonald’s, Walgreens, grocery store.

College tours

This has been a family favorite while staying in Machias over the past 30  years.  The rooms are clean and have been upgraded with thick towels and soft comfortable bedding. You still have the feeling of a comfortable motel like in the 1960’s while sitting outside your door and talking with others that are also traveling. Would highly recommend the Bluebird.

Older motel but nicely updated. Microwave and small fridge in the room. Beds are comfy. Pet friendly but a pretty stiff per night charge. As an older motel the rooms are on the small side and the bathroom is minuscule with only a small glass shelf for your stuff. But it is clean, quiet and well maintained. Check in was friendly and efficient. Plenty of parking. We have stayed here multiple times and will continue to come back.

Nicely updated motel. A favorite in the area.

 The room was exceptionally clean. Beds were comfy and included four pillows. Plenty of counter and table space with the convenience of a fridge and microwave. Perfect location for day tripping around Downeast Maine with our dog. Added bonus: Tom's mini Mart next to the motel; not just a gas station! We had the best pizza we've had in a while! Despite dreary, foggy weather, we had a pleasant stay.
