This property walks straight out of your north woods dreams and onto the glorious shores of Lake Superior! Staff are exceptionally friendly, the rooms are beautiful, and the property offers excellent opportunities for adventure!

We absolutely loved Cove Point Lodge. All rooms faced Lake Superior, as did the breakfast/dinner area. The fireOther reviews complained about the coffee machine - it's Folgers coffee and tasted just fine. It's available at all hours - decaf and regular - plus anything you want to add to it. There is also hot water for tea, cider and hot chocolate. Every room also has a Keurig. The pool and hot tub looked lovely. Staff were friendly and the rooms were quiet. Our king bed was a little wore, but slept fine otherwise. Our room also had a DVD player, and there are lots of movies to choose from in the lobby if you want to watch one. And we loved the Scandinavian breakfast! I realize picked cucumbers, herring and beets aren't for everyone, but they are healthy. There was also yogurt, granola and lingonberries, plus cold cereal and bagels. We looked forward to it every day. Because the dinner area is small, reservations are necessary - but the food is worth it. We will definitely be back!

…and so glad we did. New buildings, Great Lake views and solitude. Well- furnished and appointed, very helpful warm staff (after all, this is a family owned place.)

Just a few miles from gorgeous Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry State Park (easy paved access walk to 3:waterfalls!), and good dining either in the lodge restaurant OR in their,bar/cafe/liquor store just 1/4 up back at the main road.
We skipped the $8 Scandinavian morning buffet, as it was cold food plus toasted bagels.

Found a super rocky uphill hike of less than 1/2 mile to (unmarked) Wolf Rock lookout. Take the unsealed but smooth wide county road next to the  Rustic Inn cafe (back 1 mile past Gooseberry). Go on it for 1-2 miles,straight ahead (ignore the right turn option) and park in the lot at the trailhead on the right. Take the trailhead North (on the right) and you will be soon rewarded with great outlooks at 3 ledges all within a half mile! You will see only the occasional hiker of the Lake Superior Trail. Wonderful experience and no grueling 10 mile hike required! And then eat at the Rustic Inn cafe, and take home one their delicious $24 dessert pies which come in 10-15 different options, mostly fruits.

Beautiful gem on Minnesota’s north shore that’s close to many regional points of interest, yet secluded and romantic.  Time slows down here, in a very good way.  Staff friendly and helpful.  We will definitely be going back, hopefully for a longer stay!

We have been coming to Cove Point Lodge for years. It never disappoints. We stayed in a cottage which had comfy beds and everything we needed. We love swimming in the pool after hiking all day and stopping in the lobby for cookies and coffee. They do smores by the campfire in the evenings which the kids love. Close to all the state parks and trails, really great place.

Such a great place!. Wish we could stay longer. Particularly great for families I think. Terrific food and service. “Santa” Herb at front desk helped us print a document we needed! Pretty views and nice rooms.

Would,LOVE to see recycling.  Especially cans and bottles !!!!Was interesting ?maybeBit concerning ? The side entry door was never locked or coded. Bed average comfort. Would have loved an extra blanket.

Cove Point Lodge never disappoints. It is an unbelievable experience and the setting is absolutely incredible. Really love the music that is played in the background. It is perfect for the mood. Cove Point lodge actually keeps their pool and hot tub area clean and makes it a fabulous environment to want to spend time in. I loved getting to play piano and spend quiet time by the fireplace. This is the perfect setting for a true break from the daily grind.

Love Cove Point

We are a family of 3, traveling with our school age child. We look for clean, convenient, and family friendly. We chose this lodge for it's beautiful location. This lodge is right on the water and walking around by the water was one of the highlights of our trip. My child really enjoyed the pool, the fish house (i think that's the name) where there are board games and such. We all enjoyed cornhole on the back lawn by the water. We ate at the restaurant for dinner two nights of our stay. The first time was wonderful service and food. The second time we ate there was a little different. Seated about 30 mins after our reservation time and food took over an hour to get and we were one of the last ones to leave. Food was good, but service like that puts a damper on the experience. Breakfast had lots of options, We tried the herring and Scandinavian offerings but not really our taste. We are foodies so we enjoyed trying anyway. We stayed in a lodge room, which was comfortable but small. A larger room is available for higher cost. My child loved that they had coloring pages and colored pencils in the lobby. She was able to color both nights at dinner and it was memorable for her. They offer smores each evening at no additional cost which we took advantage of and enjoyed. The property is absolutely relaxing and beautiful. We look back on it as a place we'd like to go back to. One con- their pool was highly chlorinated, so much so that it bleached our swimsuits. We travel often and swim a alot, and have never had this experience.

Memorable

We loved Cove Point! Well kept and a ton of small details to give guests an enjoyable stay. Many things to do right at the resort! A small “black beach” at the resort that we spent a couple of hours at. Several trails out to the lake to explore. Great views from the room. Nice pool! Traditional Scandinavian breakfast was not what we expected but they had some continental breakfast foods if you’re not feeling adventurous. S’more supplies were a nice touch!

Loved Cove Point!

My husband and I are frequent visitors to the North Shore. We typically stay at resorts similar to Cove Point, but this was our first stay at this particular resort. We stayed in the main lodge in a king room with fireplace. Overall, it was a good stay, but there are some things that will likely prevent us from returning.

Some of the positives from our stay:
--Free breakfast is offered to guests in the main lodge. It is rare to find included breakfast on the North Shore when staying anywhere other than chain hotels. This was a definite positive.
--Smore makings provided as was coffee, tea, and hot chocolate all day. Also, the complimentary sugar cookies are amazing.
--The room had good amenities including pillows of multiple firmness, comfy bed, and great view of Lake Superior.
--The location is beautiful and literally situated on a cove of Lake Superior. There is a short hiking trail on the ground that is medium to difficult level of hiking and ends on a rock formation that juts out into the lake.

Some of the negatives from our stay:
--The walls in the main lodge are so thin you can hear conversation spoken at normal volumes in the rooms next to you. When walking down the hallways, you can hear conversations from the rooms you are passing.
--The grounds are not as manicured as other resorts we have stayed  at. There are areas with long grass obstructing pathways, under picnic tables, etc. 
--This is a fairly large resort and there are not many areas to actually access the shoreline. Other resorts we have stayed at have multiple access points to the lake, this resort only had a few resulting in a congested feel when at the shoreline and when walking around the resort in general. If definitely lacked privacy in places other than our room. Other resorts of this same size on the North Shore have more common areas and more of a private feel even when in the public spaces. 
--There seemed to be multiple large, extended family groups staying at the same time as us. This is likely due to our summer stay and probably not like this year round. I booked this resort thinking it was geared towards mostly couples, but clearly that was not the case. There were lots of children running around, yelling, making messes, etc. Along with this, the guests staying here seemed to be a little on the uptight, agitated side. Usually the North Shore brings out the friendliness in people, but for some reason we ran into many unpleasant and rude guests during our stay. This may be due to the lack of places to "hang out" outside your room and the congested feel in the public places. Obviously, this is not the fault of the resort and has no bearing on the rating, I just want to let people know this detail. 
--Finally the detail that will likely be a "deal breaker" for us when we look to book our next stay....lack of fire pits. For us, sitting by a cozy fire next to Lake Superior is an absolute must during our stay. Most resorts have  multiple fire pits that offer more privacy. While you may need to share a fire pit at other resorts, there are at least more options and more opportunities for privacy. There is 1 fire pit at this resort. You are not allowed to have a fire pit anywhere else besides the designated spot.  Again, this is a large place and there were always people at the fire pit, day and night. Most of the time, they were large family groups at the fire pit and we felt awkward intruding on their family time. I really wish this  place had a couple more options for fire pits. For this reason alone, we will likely not stay here again. If sitting by a fire with at least some degree of privacy is important to you, I strongly suggest you book somewhere else, like one of the Odessey resorts. 

Overall good, some things to know

We chose to stay at one of the Lakeside cottages.
The Bears Den, from the moment I walked in it,
 was like Heaven on Earth. Beautiful views, clean, firewood already cut for you, nice outside deck. 
The lodge lobby is also another bright spot. A Norwegian theme with coffee, water, movies, and even colored pencils, very well thought out!
The restaurant and bar are attached to the lobby. Which gives you incredible views of the Cove and Lake Superior The food choices are perfect and the staff was amazing.
I can't say enough good and I can't wait to return.

Cove Point, Heaven on Earth

This place is AMAZING! I usually wait to review after check we check out, but our experience has been nothing short of excellent.  The beds are so comfy, they have the sweetest staff ever, and everything is super clean. Check in was a breeze. They even gave us a gift for our anniversary. I highly recommend booking a cottage. We genuinely feel like we’re home. 

Perfect North Shore Getaway

We had the most amazing pre Christmas stay at cove point ! From the moment we arrives Santa Erb was just a delightful host his special flashing badge was a credit. Our party had a spacious cottage with open fire and right by the shore ! We had second floor room with balcony fireplace and jacuzzi bath. Didn’t have time to use pool but the restaurant food was excellent and we are sorry we didn’t get our servers name ! But you were great recalling our drinks orders . Thank you so much !!! Just go and chill , watch the lake ! Listen to the waves and chillax 💕
