This new restaurant (part of Hotel de Mesilla) is run by and owned by a local couple with YEARS of experience and it shows! Some of the stars are Chilean Sea Bass on a bed of mushroom risotto topped with a gob of crab and a broiled jumbo shrimp. My favorite appetizer is a bowl of green chile bisque topped with a gob of shredded lobster. Their rib-eye steaks are broiled to perfection, juicy and tender. Their "up" gin martinis are shaken to just the right chill.

Stayed here on our last visit to Mesilla. Decided we would make it a three-day trip and this place was great. Very nice, attentive staff. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Just love the décor in the rooms. Close to Old Mesilla. Easy to walk to and enjoy the shops and restaurants. The breakfast buffet was unbelievable and the cozy bar was just the thing to end the long day with. Everyone was just so friendly.

Stayed here recently for a business trip and was so impressed with the staff. They were attentive and friendly. The rooms were clean and overall it was a really quiet, lovely stay. It's also near Old Mesilla - easily walkable to shops and restaurants!

Very nice, relaxing stay

I confess I read all the reviews and should have known better. I tend to think that some folks are overly critical or exaggerate. Sadly, Hotel Mesilla, was a disappointment from square one. 

The price you pay for a room here is certainly not a bargain and I expected more. The restaurant here is the priority and the overnight guests, an afterthought at best. 

First off the setup is just problematic. All rooms are on the second floor but there is no separation between the VERY popular restaurant and the guest rooms. The property location is on a very busy street and there isn't a single room with a location where you weren't on top of an outdoor bar, over the building smelly, loud mechanicals or facing the very busy street. We were 'lucky' enough to be over the main entrance where Muzak blared until the wee hours and restaurant guests cackled loudly entering and leaving, again until late in the evening. In the  morning you will be awoken with strong cooking odors and rattling kettles. The cooking smells baked into our clothing and suitcases during our stay. 

The most annoying thing is that any time you enter the building you are given the third-degree by staff about "why you are there" and "where are you going?" Staff seems to believe that anyone entering must be there for the restaurant and not hotel guests. We were there long enough where they should have recognized us by the end but no, that's not where their priorities lie. 

I believe the restaurant must be very good because it was packed every day during our visit and hotel guests like us were unable to find parking spots. Nothing is reserved for hotel guests, again that is not this place's priority. The inside bar in the back was also always standing-room-only. 

As for the room, it was not large but clean with french doors that led to a terrace that circles the entire second floor. the terrace had comfortable patio furniture for lounging and thankfully doors we could leave open to air out the room from all the cooking odors. 

P.S.: Don't expect ANY help from the front desk regarding directions or restaurant suggestions ("why don't you just eat here?"). No literature (I was told it was unsightly), no information in the room on the basics of the room such as TV channels, room service, maid service (I found out the hard way that you have to ask EACH DAY for maid service and must be prepared to be specific).

I booked this one away from the highway and outside of town and paid a little more looking for a relaxing stay. Asked for a quiet room, was given one at the top of the stairs. When I asked to be moved they told me that was the room. Period. No discussion. There is piped-in radio music outside the room until 10PM. Kitchen staff arrives at 7AM. No sleeping in here! Room was nice, very small (no desk) but carpet had not been vacuumed. Probably a 3-star hotel, but needs some improvement. Oh, and although they have a restaurant on-site, you have to drive into town for the "free breakfast" -- which only serves Mexican food, so be aware that toast does not come with the eggs. (Restaurant was very very good, though!)
