Pinecrest Chalet is the perfect mountain resort. The property is so peaceful and well taken care of. Now under new ownership, we’ve seen many changes happening including lots of renovations! I highly would recommend the Chalet if you’re looking for a relaxing upscale getaway with family or friends. Also, it is so close to dodge ridge and the lake which made things very convenient for us! Staff was very friendly and accommodating! Can’t wait to return Summer 2020!

We family of 4 with 3 dogs stayed at 2 bedroom townhouse ground floor unit G. It was good size room for us. We enjoyed our time here. Check in was easy. I like there were DVD for us to borrow at lobby. We watched some old school movie with our kids. Kitchen had most everything we need. The bed were comfy and hot water was running ok! We hang out at backyard hill with kids and dogs a lot. There was plenty snow for us to play and dogs wondering around. We bought some board game to here play and also went to ski at ski resort. It was about less than 10 minutes drive. We went for hike at Pinecrest Lake on new year day. We walked in the lake. That was pretty awesome! I will recommend Pinecrest Chalet to family and friends👍

When we arrived the snow was still thick, it was the end of the season and coming from England I did not appreciate how high up we were, let alone that it would be snowy. It was amazing to come from sun bathing weather in Stockton to the fresh air of Pinecrest.
Our chalet was so cosy plenty of room for the 4 of us for a 2 night stay.
Created happy memories there.
We were on a road trip around California so I would thoroughly recommend here.
It was a 2 and half hour drive to Yosemite and a marvelous scenic journey there.

Located close to the greater San Francisco Bay Area and the Central Valley, the Pinecrest Chalet is the perfect and beautiful place for that get-a-way weekend in the Sierras. Additionally, it is located literally a stone's throw from Dodge Ridge ski area. Accommodations vary by the type of cabin you choose. It's basic and rustic. If you are looking for a Marriot, this is not your place. Staff is friendly and helpful. Bring a good book, your hiking shoes, your dog, some wine and just kick back and completely chill out. If you love the outdoors and being close to a perfect lake in the summer and skiing in the Winter, you will not be disappointed. I would recommend to call and check for availability since its also a popular wedding venue.

We had a large family reunion at Pinecrest Chalet. Our party stayed in the one of the bigger townhouses, Boulder. I didn't see any of the other attendees accommodations. This is mountain cabin living so you have to have realistic expectations. I'm used to cabins in Tahoe and other rustic locations so I knew what to expect. If you are expecting pristine, modern accommodations this won't be your cup of tea.  Boulder was clean and had updated futons from those pictured on the website. There was cable tv and we did have wi-fi good enough to check email or a web site or two but not for any streaming activity - that was fine though as we spent most of our time outdoors. Boulder has a great wrap around deck that accommodates large parties. Beautiful view off the deck of the creek/river. Beautiful grounds to relax and I can see how it would make a beautiful, rustic wedding venue. The lake is a very short drive down the road. Pinecrest Resort down the street has a well stocked store so its easy to pick up food and other necessities. We loved the pool at Pinecrest Chalet after being at the lake in the morning. Boulder had 4 bedrooms downstairs with a queen each in 3 of them and a set of bunkbeds in the other. My family stayed in that room and it was a tight squeeze. Boulder has a fairly steep set of stairs down to the bedrooms and bathrooms so be aware if anyone in your party has difficulty with stairs. Couple of specific notes: The "coffee maker" is a french press - most in our party would have preferred a simple plug in coffee machine. Boulder had 2 bathrooms downstairs - they were really small but reasonable enough for us and we had 10-12 people staying there over 3 nights. The towels need to be replaced as they were very thin. Also, just a suggestion for the property, instead of leaving out 10 tiny shampoo or body wash bottles - just install pump dispensers in the shower - much easier to use and way less waste.

Overall we had a fantastic time and it was a great locale. Set your expectations for a rustic mountain retreat in a beautiful setting. I can't speak to the cost/value as we were part of a family group.

We enjoyed staying at Pinecrest Chalet in a studio cabin during a winter storm. Great location, and an easy drive to Steam Donkey Restaurant and Dodge Ridge Ski Resort.  Cabin had minimal kitchen pots and pans and glassware. Bed was cozy. We would stay there again, but in a bigger cabin.

Cozy cabin near Dodge Ridge

Traveling with two teenagers, we're always looking for lodging where each kid can get their own bed, so the loft (#8) seemed like the perfect option -- queen bed with a loft that accommodates two twins. But the term "loft" should be used very lightly here, because it's more like an overhead luggage rack that fits two twins. The ceiling over one was so low, it seemed like sleeping in a coffin so my son ended up sleeping on the floor next to our bed instead. The location is very close to Dodge Ridge, the management was very nice and responsive, and the whole site has a very cute rustic village feel with a little brook running right behind it. We would consider staying there again in a bigger place, but we want to make sure another family with larger children doesn't make this mistake. I included photos so you can see what the cabin is like. They mean for the "loft" to be for little children, apparently. Also, my teens want people to be aware that the wifi is not great.

Pinecrest Chalet has changed since the last time my family stayed there a few years ago. Im going to start with the good. The cabins are rustic and property is just beautifull, the kids played in the snow, used their sleds and snowshoed right out our front door, Dodge Ridge ski area 3 miles away, Strawberry Market, 2 miles and pine crest lake 2 miles and short drive from the bay area. Things that have changed and very disapointing. There is no front dest person to help with any of your needs, it was never open. You got your keys from a basket outside in front of closed lodge. The only help was from a short staffed maintence staff, no phone or internet connections.

From reading old reviews it seems like this has been going on for a while. I would love to bring the family back in the summer, they have a pool, play area, creek.

So what happened to beautiful Pinecrest Chalet, are there new owners, is it impossible to find a front desk staff?

Pinecrest Chalet needs some love and care!

The two futons that served as couches in the living room have such worn out mattresses that we could hardly get out of them without being helped out.  We stayed in Unit F. 
Good luck finding anyone in the lobby. We rang the bell and knocked on the door , and waited and waited and waited. No one ever came. 
The Wifi is a total joke. Forget having Wifi. 
Mouse poop in the utensils drawer. Oh God! 


Room for improvement

The location is excellent but the facility and service leaves a lot to be desired.  The cabins are very "rustic" with minimal facility e.g., no closet at all.  Shower stalls are probably 24 inch by 24 inch; you can't bend down to wash your feet.  It's hard to get staff to help you.  Also, I would like to see reviews from visitors who think they were charged unnecessary $150 cleaning fee when they did nothing unusua.
