Cheshire Cabins and Treehouse Rentals

We are string in the Wild Turkey Roost and we are pleased.  In my research of the area and of these cabins I was aware of some potential problems.  We experienced NO problems.  We will give the managers a list of potential problems that need to be reviewed, but nothing that directly affected our stay.  

Our room was clean and neat and this cabin is what we were looking for in our stay. Cabin in the mountains with convenience to a local town.

We stayed in Cardinal's Cove cabin (the 1st in from the parking lot). We loved and it everything worked (to an extent). This particular cabin slept 6 people I believe? Personally, I would not do more than 4. It had an odd layout- 1 bedroom (with 2 beds) downstairs w/ full bath, and full living area upstairs with another full bath. The bedroom got really cold, where the upstairs was about 5-10 degrees warmer. It did had a washer/dryer downstairs (it was from the dinosaur era, but it worked great). Upstairs was the living area with a couch, tv, ect. Yes, the layout off the TV and couch was not well thought out but your in the mountains... go outside! It had a 4 person dinning table and a counter-top with bar stools too. The kitchen was smaller but it was great for a vacation. They provided you with EVERYTHING you needed (even a blender!). The location of the cabin was great. less than 10 mins and you were in downtown. 30 mins was Asheville. 
We took a walk down the path where the other cabins were located and noticed that you could really hear the highway. I would not go past the 3rd cabin from the parking lot, if you had a choice. The back 3 were right next to the highway. Ours and the cabin next to us (a smaller one) was great though. You could hear the steam, crickets, and the people next door from time to time. 
Why 4 stars and not 5 then? We had some concerns with security with the cabin and we did not like how there were 2 separate doors (1 for the bedroom and a separate one for the living room). The fridge did not work well. It was cold in the back, but warm in the front. We went to the farmers market the first day we were there, and to Ingles, to buy groceries, but later threw them out because the meat, cheese, and eggs were no where near cold enough. We ended up just using it to hold drinks. We ate out 2xs as much as we had planned (and budgeted for) because of this. 

All and all? Loved it. Don't think I would go to Black Mountain again because I think we exhausted that, but would stay with a cabin from this company again.

Cardinal's Cove - Review

A Nice Retreat

Cheshire Village is conveniently located... beside Hwy 9, which is a busy highway.  Chickadee Cabin is directly over the road and has a LOT of highway noise.  Other cabins nicely situated over stream or buffered by trees/other cabins.  Cabins are nice, but close to each other.  Decks are high off the ground, almost like being in a tree house, so there is privacy.  There are 2 ways to walk from your car to the cabins.  The upper path is VERY STEEP, the lower entry is much easier.  I would stay again, but would not choose the Chickadee Cabin.

Beware of the Chickadee Cabin

We rented this cabin for a three night stay.  Upon arrival, it was evident no one had recently stayed in this cabin.  Everything was dusty.  Both the upstairs bathtub/shower combo and downstairs walk in shower had spiders in them.  The king sized bed had a spiderweb with spider attached from the wall to the pillow (there is no headboard on this bed). Towels were left in the downstairs bathroom, but there were NONE in the upstairs bathroom.  There was dark curly hair on the pillowcases and sheets of the queen sized bed, which is just a bit gross... I know we all shed, but it’s still not something I want to see on the sheets I’m about to sleep on.  I sent an email to reservations and I received a text from housekeeping the NEXT MORNING, offering to come by and clean the cabin.  At this point, we had already taken care of it ourselves!  We travel with our small dog who goes nuts if a stranger comes in when we are not home... we would of had to adjust our plans and wait for them to come and clean.  Who wants to be inconvenienced by having to wait on housekeeping to come and do something that should have already been done prior to our arrival?  At this price point, I expect better.  We’ve stayed in the cabin next door, Winnie’s Place, who is managed by another group... it was amazing... spotless!  I guess they set the standard for us when we stayed there in November and this was nowhere near that level of cleanliness.  

Location is great!  An hour in any direction gives you another adventure!

Cardinal’s Cove Cabin - Dirty, dusty, spiders!

We just returned from a visit to Black Mountain, a place we love and visit at least twice a year. This was our first experience with the Wild Turkey Roost, rented through Carolina Mornings. The price was higher than we usually agree to - around $300.00+/night - but it was the fall color season and we wanted to be in Cheshire which is convenient and very cool. The Wild Turkey, which is a cute little suite (general area that is a living/bedroom/kitchenette with a loft accessed with a ladder)  wasn't as clean as I'd expect it to be. The mircowave still had food splashes in it from the previous renter, the ceiling fan was uber dusty and squeaked when it ran, there was this foamy white stuff like lint or something toppling over the window frame, the bathroom fan hadn't been cleaned maybe ever and was dust filled. The window blinds wouldn't go up correctly and while they addressed this with a helpful visit from a local person, he could only fix one of them. Yes, the property was was dusted and the floors were wiped clean, and the bathroom was generally well cleaned. But, for the price this wasn't up to the par that I had experienced when I rented from other agencies. I was very familiar with these properties, having rented many times in Cheshire before. And, I was eager to enjoy this get away. But it was a disappointment.

High price, low maintenance

By a busy road with tons of road noise, lacks furniture, unsafe loft with no ability to close the opening.  Carolina Mornings was unhelpful in resolving.  Trash cans are far away.  The walk to the cabin is very steep and the parking is not designated or clearly marked.  Additionally, the restaurants for the village are not open yet however the downtown area is thriving.  The rest of the village is beautiful however these cabins are awful.

Currently at the property and it's simply bad

My husband and I were going to stay at Chickadee's Hatch Cabin March 2021. We drove 7 hours, and finally got to the cabin around 7:30-8:00PM due to traffic. When we got to the cabin we opened the door, and saw the trash cans were full. We thought ok I hope that is all that is dirty.....We looked in the kitchen and saw there were used coffee cups from the guest that were there in February roughly a week and a half before we arrived. (The used cups had dates on them.) The trash smelled awful, but again we were hoping that is all that was dirty, OH WERE WE WRONG!!!!! We walked into the bathroom on the main floor to find dirty towels, nasty shower, and pee all over the toilet and floor. Ok well it was already getting late and we had two dogs with us, so we were hoping that atleast the bedroom was clean.....We walked downstairs to see the bed was not made. There was blood on the bed, and wash cloths next to the bed with male bodily fluids on it. We walk into the downstairs bathroom to find used maxi pads in the trash can and trash everywhere. It had been sitting there for over a week and a half so all the trash and bodily fluids stunk! We called maintenance because nobody else would answer. The maintenance lady tried to contact the "reservations team" (they are a JOKE). Nobody answers. So we told her due to COVID and other health reasons that are very evident from our walk through of the cabin that we can't stay here. We asked is there another cabin we can stay in tonight as it was getting late. Maintenance said uh idk I would need to talk to the "reservation team". Finally at 9PM the maintenance lady said there was nothing she can do we are stuck with that cabin until tomorrow. We asked what should we do or where are we supposed to stay and her response was i don't know. We told her we are not staying there and then we had to drive 35mins away to a pet friendly hotel and pay for it. The next day nobody called us. We had to call them that following morning. Well we spoke to Seth on the reservation team and never once did they take ownership or apologize for what has happened. Seth literally sounded like an emotionless robot. We had multiple calls back and fourth because he had to keep speaking to us and then going to tell his supervisor because she was too good to take our call. (In the words of Seth, she is unavailable at the moment. We asked well when is she available. He said she is unavailable but I will reach out to her. We then said why don't you just give her our information so we can just talk to her directly. He said I will keep saying what I have been saying she is unavailable.) We were so upset and after everything  nobody ever cared that we had paid good money for this cabin and they couldn't just make sure it was clean for us upon arrival nor apologize and correct in a timely manner. At this point, we are just trying to salvage the rest of our trip. So we finally told Seth we want a full refund. Seth then asked if we stayed there the night we arrived? I then asked if he would stay in something so gross and disgusting and he just said oh uh uh uh no. Seth then said well we were going to give you a refund for the first night that you didn't stay and we can maybe have the cabin ready by 4PM.....(We would have wasted a whole day waiting for them to clean that cabin and hope they got it done by 4PM. And Why would I want to sleep in a bed where I just saw bodily fluid on??? Are you kidding me? And nobody can apologize for their mess up or own their mistake.) I highly recommend you don't stay here!!!!!!!

DONT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!

It has taken me a while to write this review while I have waited for resolution which never came... We stayed in woodpecker hollow over NYE 14/15. The cabin was filthy ( food and debris under furniture, heavy dust, grease all over kitchen and jetsam left by previous guests- this was not recent dirt, this was a build up over months), faulty electrical switches, broken furniture, broken toilet plus carpenters who where rebuilding the burnt out unit next door who started pounding nails at 7 am on a holiday weekend. We were in touch constantly with the management office ( the owners who I originally dealt with where off on holiday) in person, via phone and email. The maintenance worker ( who was pleasant but turned out to be a contractor ) surveyed the issues but could not assist due to the holiday (?) so in order to sleep we had to turn off the water to the toilet ( the seal was completely blown out in the tank and it ran constantly- an easy fix) and not turn the light in the bathroom on due to audible arching in the switch.

Our complaints went unanswered for some time (months) when the owner finally got back with me.  My request, one that I think is reasonable, was that the rate be retroactively adjusted to the off season prices due to the issues which, I believe, are unacceptable for a $400 per night cabin ( total bill $2380)- basically a studio that was not as secluded as the pictures made it appear. I was told that credits are out of the question but I was offered a discount on a future visit plus a gift card for the village grocery store. Since this was now getting into spring and we really liked the Black Mountain area we decided to go ahead and book another trip in early summer. I was essentially hoping to have a redo to clear the bad experience... until I received the invoice.. apparently the discount was ONLY for a much more expensive property and the owners had sold the grocery store so no gift card.. I contacted CV immediately and was told that there was nothing that could be done.

Having run out of patience with this company we booked with another vacation  rental company in Blowing Rock at the last minute and skipped our visit to CV who apparently didn't even notice that we hadn't checked in. Staying in a place that was the cause of so much frustration wasn't worth the money. 

I would be very cautious of renting from a company that has so many policies stacked against the customer . Their cancelation policy is "at least 90 (ninety) days* prior to your arrival date to cancel your reservation." Many trips are BOOKED within this 90 day period!
