Great property. Has history, very cozy. Hosts are excellent and the location is fantastic for exploring Bar Harbour

Loved the location of this property. Beds were comfy and rooms were quiet.  It was very convenient having coffee, tea, ice and water available at all times. Would definitely stay here again!

Host was nice. Property walkable to shops and restaurants. About 10 minutes from Acadia National Park.

Comfortable room, great location, nice front porch and communal kitchen space

Lovely property, great location with walking access to all of Bar Harbor. Parking in Bar Harbor is very hard, so having a local lodge was terrific.

We love staying in old historic homes and The Central House was perfect.  The decor of the house was classic from the period, yet comfortable.  Our room was small but comfortable.  The shower was cozy for my husband but doable.  The floors are somewhat wonky which added to the charm of the place.  Phil, the owner, was always available for questions and information.  The sunroom was a relaxing place to sit at the table and enjoy Phil's fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon with a cup of coffee or tea.  We enjoyed sitting on the covered front porch reading and people-watching.  The Central House is located right in downtown Bar Harbor and we walked everywhere.  It's a short drive to the entrance to Acadia National Park.  As noted in the online listing, there is no elevator for the 2nd and 3rd floors.  We plan to stay there again when we return to Bar Harbor.

We spent a week vacationing along the coast of Maine. We stayed in B+Bs along the way. This property was in a good location in the heart of town. The property was old and had minimal staff and services - all to be expected with a mid-priced B+B. It was a good value for the money and we enjoyed our stay. PS - Maine’s coast is amazing and we had a great vacation in Kennebunkport, Camden and Bar Harbor!

Coastal Maine

I had a v ery pleasent stay here. I decided last minute to take a road trip to Bar Harbor and was lucky to get a room at the Central House. It was on the third floor which I think was a reason it was still available but that was fine with me. I loved the location with is proximitry to downtown. There was not breakfast available but that was not a problem. There were plenty of places to eat near by. It was very clean and plenty of parking. Price was also very reasonable. 

Stay at the Central House, you wont be disapointed

Loved our stay at the historic Central House

There is much to admire in this centrally-located and historic guest house. Comfortable sofas abound in informal public areas, coffee and tea are on tap and rooms have all essentials, even if the relatively cheaper attic rooms are a little small. But the sense is that Bar Harbor does not have to try too hard and now that business is returning there are areas that could do with a bit of love and attention.  Hence 4* rating.

Appealing, bags of character but slightly tired

This hotel is in an old, but well-kept house close to the waterfront and businesses in Bar Harbor.  The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and everything functioned properly.  Ample parking was provided.  There were several large sitting rooms inside and a covered front porch with chairs.  At $325 a night, the room wasn’t cheap, but nothing in Bar Harbor is cheap.  We particularly liked being able to leave our car at the hotel and walk everywhere in town.

Great location for visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia

The name is apt.  You can comfortably walk to any of the restaurants or shops in the area.  It is NOT a b&b but it doesn’t claim to be.  The rooms are comfortable and the common areas are nice with coffee, tea and hot cocoa readily available. Parking is a premium asset and it was easily accessible.  Loved the location and would recommend it to anyone.

Pros - GREAT location - you can walk to everything.  Our room was medium in size.  Bed was comfortable.  Quiet and cool. All electronics/digital connections worked fine.  Nice. comfortable porch for sitting reading, browsing on phone, etc.  On site parking was fine; we didn't have to move our car at all.Cons - Soap bars were postage stamp size.  There was one waste basket  - in the bathroom - 2 would be the minimum I would think.  No recycling we could see.  Electric outlets were hard to access and probably not enough for 2022.  No USB charging outlets.Cons are kinda picky but there are many other choices of where to stay.  That said, we'd definitely stay there again.  It's in the heart of Bar Harbor, which is one of our favorite places on earth.

Pros and cons

Great experience at the Central House! Location was perfect and incredibly walkable to all restaurants shops and buses to Acadia Park. We enjoyed sitting on the porch in the evenings after a long day of hiking. Phil was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area! Would definitely recommend and stay again!

Great location and service

Great stay at The Central House. It is a lovely historic home, very clean and comfortable, in an amazing location to walk around Bar Harbor.  Great access to Bar Harbor boat, bike and bus tours as well (all walkable).  We were made to feel very at home from the moment we arrived.  We'll be back.....  and soon.

While old and charming, the Central House is very clean and well maintained. Phil the innkeeper is friendly and accommodating. He responded very quickly to my request to extend my stay. My only complaint is that my room was very warm with no way to control it in the room. After the first night however I worked it out by opening a window and using the ceiling fan.
