This is a historic inn and restaurant with charm and easy going elegance.

Rooms are lovely. People are kind. Highly recommend.

We had a very spacious room on the third floor which included a living room area. The room was clean and well-maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful. Very affordable. Just a note - building has several levels with rather steep stairs, so that may pose a challenge for some.

This is a nice little place with much more character and charm than a "big box" hotel. They upgraded us to a larger room because of an issue with a door lock, and it was even nicer than expected. If you are going to Gettysburg, PA, skip fighting tourists in the hotels in town, and stay at Altland House.

For an old building right on a main road with a restaurant and bar, it was very quiet and cozy. A place like this just has a charm that a modern hotel cannot replicate. Great stay, we will be back.

First off, this is a very old building which I knew when we booked it, and I was willing to forgive some quirks knowing that. The room we had was very nice upon initial inspection, but you could tell it was a little tired in a few ways: it had the stale smell of old cigarettes probably from long ago, the plumbing was dated (though it had a large jet tub) but that's to be expected in a historic hotel. My main problems were 1) it would not stay cool despite the AC unit; 2) the road noise was pretty loud and started at 6:30 AM because it's right off a major roundabout that big rigs use; 3) the bed was saggy. 1 & 3 made it pretty difficult to sleep comfortably throughout our stay, 2 I got used to after the 2nd night. I think the room would've been better to stay in a cooler time of year. It came with a working gas fireplace and that would've been nice to use if it were colder. Still wouldn't have helped with the bed though.  We missed most of the free breakfast offerings since we were jet lagged from the west coast, but a couple days we were able to grab the full-sized muffins and granola snacks they offered. The staff was really hard to find to check in and check out, the bar downstairs had the wrong hours posted so we visited them right after closing. We didn't use the restaurant, but it seemed pretty popular. Never had any issue with parking.We stayed there as an option to visit nearby family, and we'll probably return in the future. Hopefully a different room will help.

1 night stay.  Friendly staff, clean, organized, quality linens/towels/pillows, hot water, a/c, heat, microwave, fridge, hair dryer, nice dining room/bars (live music) and all the nice features of an old Inn.  It looked and felt upscale.  I had committed to eat with friends at another restaurant.  But wanted to eat there.  The food looked well prepared.  Engaged in conversations with a few other people that were staying elsewhere, but came there repeatedly to eat.  The only potential issue could have been parking.  Being a Friday night, it was almost full.

Can’t say I’ve ever felt more comfortable anywhere other than my own home. Checked in early, no problem. Room is so attractive, cozy & comfortable. All of the staff have been amazing. Relaxed in room, went downstairs for supper & had a delicious dinner with great service. There is nothing negative here for us except the tiny tv but really, you’re not coming here to have a movie night.  We felt like we were staying at the home of some wealthy friends we met on vacation. I want to live here for real

Like home, but better

An  excellent place to stay or eat. Very friendly staff, excellent food, well presented. The hotel is clean, and we always felt safe staying there. I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay when in the Gettysburg,  Hanover, York PA area, or to enjoy their dining facility for a casual snack , a formal meal or a special occasion  get together. They will accommodate you well. And be sure to tr one of their ales brewed on the premises.

Our 5th overnight stay at this historic Inn with about 10 unique rooms, a great restaurant and craft beers.  Our room had a large bed, claw foot tub and walk-in shower.  No two rooms are decorated the same, definitely not a tricky-tacky chain hotel. Conveniently located on route 30 with easy access to nearby towns. Our room came with internet access and a continental breakfast.  Don’t miss the house-made chips with balsamic reduction and Parmesan cheese served before we got our burgers.

The check in process was very easy.  The room was large and included a small sitting area and a table.  I was only able to stay one night but enjoyed the stay.  I was there on a night that there was also an auto race taking place.  It was a little loud and they also had fireworks.  Otherwise it was surprisingly quiet for being in the center of town.  It also seemed very safe.  I didn't feel uncomfortable inside or outside the hotel at night.

Great find not too far outside of Gettysburg.  Room was beautifully decorated and clean, with the regular amenities-shampoo, conditioner, soap.  Two bottles of water were provided daily as well.  It was very warm outside, but the air conditioning and humidity in the room was very comfortable.  Shower water pressure was great, but hot/cold fluctuated.  Not a big deal because you could anticipate it coming.The food in the tavern and restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced.  House chips w/balsamic glaze was a nice touch.  Chicken & waffles were good comfort food, and the flatbreads were very good.  The in house beers were delicious and full of flavor!My only complaint was the mattress was very uncomfortable and sagged in the middle, which was tough when you are used to a firm mattress.

Hotel, bar and restaurant where closed on the Sunday we arrived.
We knew that in advance. Due to delays with our flights to the USA we were very late.
The hotel manager left the door open and a message where to find the keys to our rooms.
Beautiful old hotel, clean, nicely furnished rooms and very comfortable beds.
Next morning early nobody was there, had a little stroll around the restaurant and bar, looked very nice and inviting, skipped breakfast because in a hurry, we left our keys on the desk without seeing anybody.
Looking forward to visit again (when bar and restaurant are open) if we are around.

Nice hotel without seeing anybody

This is an old, historic building which was part of the charm for us... some may not think so. Despite the dated wallpaper and squeaky floors, everything was quite clean and comfortable. Our beds were elevated off the floor and a footstool was provided to aid in getting in and out of bed. Somewhat tricky for a 2am trip to the bathroom. Having a nice restaurant in the same building was a real plus. Waitress Ariana was very attentive. Host Maxwell was very friendly and efficient at check-in. Staff is multi-talented...Ariana even carried our bags upstairs.We did not check out the tavern in the cellar, but it seemed to be quite popular.
