Had the pleasure of staying at this delightful guest house, only for one night, unfortunately! Very welcoming. Lovely twin room with perfectly adequate sized bathroom, TV, tea and coffee making facilities and good, strong WI-FI. Comfy beds, cosy decor  Little kitchen with a fridge and microwave should you wish to self-cater, particularly good during these times if you don't wish to venture out. Parked our car on the forecourt  Close to centre, about 15-20 minutes walk away. The breakfast was superb. Excellent choice of cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc plus an extensive cooked breakfast menu to choose from. The scrambled eggs were SO good! AJ was a marvellous hostess.  I would highly recommend this place.

Absolutely faultless!

The room was clean, looked really nice and posh and everything necessary was in there. Had tea, coffee and a kettle. The host was very sweet, helped with everything and made an amazing english breakfast. Overall, it was excellent.

I booked this guest house for a one night stay in Southampton in October. The Guest house is a fairly simple 15-20 minute walk from Southampton station. The owner showed me to my room, provided me with a Southampton map and informed me of nearby options for an evening meal (There are a number of options on Shirley Road about 10-15minutes walk ranging through Indian, Italian, Weatherspoons etc.)  The room was very clean and comfortable and there were good tea and coffee making facilities and an ensuite bathroom with a shower. For breakfast the next morning there were plenty of options including a very good cooked breakfast. I had a very pleasant stay. 

Very comfortable stay

I stayed at the Alcantara Guest House for one night prior to departing on a cruise. I wanted a B&B that was convenient to the port and to the National Express Coach Station, since I was taking the NEC from Heathrow to Southampton. The Alcantara Guest House filled the bill, and I was encouraged by all the other positive reviews.

I checked in around 4 pm. The owner, A.J., greeted me with hot tea and homemade lemon cake upon my arrival. It was much appreciated on that cold and rainy October day in Southampton! She also gave me information about things to see and do in Southampton the following day while I was waiting for my cruise embarkation.

My room was one of the two guest rooms on the first floor. It was clean and had a private bath. The king sized bed took up most of the room but it was very comfortable and I could move around easily enough. I was very pleasantly surprised as I had booked a single (twin) room. The room was stocked with a tea kettle, tea bags and instant coffee, biscuits, shower gel and shampoo, a wardrobe, television and a small writing desk. The bathroom was nice sized with a generous shower. All in all it was a very nice room for the night. Warm and comfortable.

A.J. showed me the charming dining room where breakfast was to be served the following morning. Unfortunately, I slept right through my alarm as I was so jet-lagged from my flight. I awoke to A.J. knocking gently on my door, informing me that breakfast was ending in 5 minutes if I wanted to partake. Sadly, it would have taken me longer than that to get dressed and presentable for the public so I had to miss my traditional English fry-up. The aroma that wafted into my room smelled delicious.

The Alcantara was centrally located to everywhere I wanted to go. I was able to get everywhere I needed to get for a £4-6 Uber fare.

Even with missing breakfast, the room was a great value. I would definitely stay there again if ever I am back in Southampton.

Comfy, Clean and Convenient. I would stay here again.

Stayed one night, host very friendly met with tea and cake on arrival which was a nice touch.  Room very clean and well equipped with unsuite.
Breakfast superb with locally  sourced produce, full English was excellent.
Parking on site was a bonus,
Great location within about 5 minute drive for cruise terminal.

Stayed here 3 nights and it was a fantastic pleasure. 
AJ the Host was very friendly, informative, and nothing at all was too much to ask. 
Room was very comfortable, tea , coffee, biscuits, milk was more than ample everyday as fresh supplies. 
Room 9 looking out onto the hanging baskets and was a nice quiet room. Smelt fresh and was clean and plenty of toiletries everyday replenished. 
Bed was two singles bolted together and was very comfortable, the mattress was not soft but not too firm and I had no problems with my back at all which I do suffer from. The bedding was pretty and 6 pillows on the bed, so if too soft I just added another pillow. 
I found the guest house to be quite quaint and full of original features in the main areas. 
Would definitely stay here again and fully recomend this Guest House. One last thing the breakfast was fantastic. Poached eggs and fish steamed just right and the full English was great, tasty local foods, full of flavour and cooked just right.

Very impressed by this guest house. Clean, everything you needed, great breakfast, nothing too much trouble. All staff friendly and helpful. Owner changed her plans to be there to welcome me at the time I wanted to arrive. Would definitely stay again.

Met by a very friendly host and immediately served with tea and home made cake.  Our room was very clean and well equipped.  The breakfast was magnificent with many choices of fruit, cereals etc.  The full English was to die for and we would certainly recommend this b and b to anyone.

Very welcoming staff. And they remember your name! Clean comfy room and excellent choice of breakfasts. I would definitely stay there again.
Parking too but a bit of a squeeze. Private bathroom but not ensuite but I knew that before I went so not a problem.
Really good value.
