Crazy quirky fun place to stay. Not in any way a standard hotel room. An old wooden railway carriage converted into bedrooms but still feels and looks like a railway carriage. Next to the east coast main line so you can see and feel the trains. Lovely bar area with cozy fire. Elegant dining carriage with fantastic Greek meze. It's an odd little place. We were charmed

Can't wait for a revisit. Highly recommend for great staff great food and clean and comfy bedroom. Many people staying there had all stayed several times before which says a lot. Got to be the next best thing to the Orient Express especially dining in the dining carriage.

We had a great stay. Just one night but watching the trains go by was fantastic and also listening to the goods trains going past during the night. Breakfast was good. We had an evening meal which was also good. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would hope to return one day.

Wow! Super friendly service, shared a Greek meze between 4 of us. Fantastic food, great ambience and we were so well looked after. Back tomorrow night! The food was just like being back in Skiathos where we holiday every year. Would highly recommend. A super, smashing evening!

Spent the weekend at the Sidings with my dad and had an amazing time. All of the people working there are friendly and really do make you feel comfortable. 

The food was great, I had the meatballs and Lamb main and both were amazing. Great choice of beers and wines so would highly recommend. 

The rooms are just what I expected and we were not disappointed. Nice and cozy, and the bed was really comfortable - I had an excellent nights sleep. 

Breakfast the next day was lovely, sat right at the side of the East Coast Mainline, my dad is a bit of a train buff and was in his element. 

Would highly recommend a stay at the Sidings, everything was as good if not better than I had hoped for and would definitely return again in the future.

After a previous issue we were kindly given the opportunity to visit the sidings again and I have to say the meal was absolutely beautiful.

We booked in for 5.15 arrived a little late because we missed the turn of the road but it was fine, we sat in the railway carriage, Our starters arrived both were very good meatballs and garlic mushrooms with lovely warm bread, then my husband had Roast pork Sunday lunch I had the fish of the day which was salmon it was served with a lovely variety of vegetables which I loved,I then had a cheesecake to finish overall we had a very lovely meal would recommend oh and the staff were very pleasant Thankyou

Stayed here for 2 nights for my hubby's birthday.
We were able to upgrade to - The Royal Train which was brilliant.
It's so spacious with a comfy bed.
Very smart bathroom
Looks right onto the passing trains .
If you dine in the evening its in a dining car + the food is amazing.
The owner/ chef who is a greek Cypriot is an amazing cook with greek dishes if you want them 
Kleftico was my fave.
All staff are very friendly + happy to spend time with you if you need information.

My wife & I were cycling the Way of the Roses from Morecambe to Bridlington [we started 5 years ago] & recently cycled the leg from Ripon to York. Our overnight stop was "The Sidings" a unique  hotel/restaurant formed from 5 Hertiage railway carriages.
The staff were friendly & welcoming & we could book our evening meal on the spot. Evening meal was delicious Home made Mousakka [meat or vegetarian].
The compartment we stayed in contained a comfy bed & a toilet & shower cubicle. Sufficient for our needs. Next morning at breakfast I half expected Michael Portillo in his yellow jacket to serve breakfast!. If you are a rail enthusiast, it is a great location alongside the East Coast Mailline, North of York. It is packed with railway memorabilia. A fascinating stay.

We recently visited the sidings for the first time for our anniversary. The meal was delicious and the staff were friendly and eager to make our time with them a pleasure. Would highly recommend to family and friends.

Great stay in this one off, hotel, set next to the East Coast Mainliner Railway the lovely place is full of Railway memories of a bye gone age, the bar area with a log burner. Fantastic staff, who were all so helpful. Then the rooms, in real old style railway coaching stock, all individually designed, we had the Jubilee room , like stepping back in time, warm and cosy, four poster bed very comfortable too, great shower, tea and coffee. A great place to stay. The food was very good too, evening meal and the breakfast. Great value for money and a great pint of Tetley’s . Look forward to staying here again next year , a big well done to all the team.

A unique travel experience

Would highly recommend. I came with my train loving 11year old son and was not disappointed. The rooms are comfortable considering they are converted train carriages. The private balcony attached to our room was perfect! We also dined at the restaurant and we were not disappointed- it was one of the nicest meals I have had in a long time. Home cooked, fresh and tasty. The service was considerate and welcoming and we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Can’t wait for breakfast in the morning …

Trainspotter dream!

I arrived at about 7pm after a train journey and received a friendly welcome from John. I decided to have a meal at the restaurant and was very impressed with the food which was excellent and arrived after a reasonable time. Really tasty!

The stay in my room was good although the wifi signal was not very strong. I could get a reception in the reception area however in my room the signal dropped out.

I stayed in the Seagull room and it was very comfortable and unique having been created from a railway carriage.

My shower was nice and hot the following morning and I sat down for a very good breakfast.

John arranged for me to get a taxi back to the city centre and it was not long before it arrived.

Hopefully I will get an opportunity to stay again.
