If you are thinking of booking here - don’t. I have been significantly overcharged for our stay and the owner has declined to sort this, despite my numerous calls, texts and messages. Disgusted by how we have been treated. Would not recommend staying here

Spoilt Wedding Anniversary celebration.

We had a lovely time and have already recommended Bowlish House to many friends. It is the quintessential country house hotel. The rooms are cozy & the breakfast is delicious. It was the perfect spot from which to explore the rest of Somerset

Lovely Time

The room was nothing like the pictures, when I told the lady at reception that this was the case , she accused me of being racist and her partner chased me out the hotel screaming abusive language at me and that I should leave ! I was beyond shocked as I didn't mention anything about anyone's skin colour , my comment was about the room . Furthermore they chased us to our car . We left in shock and left .

Stay away

The charming property together with host Nicola's ability to make us feel so at ease and comfortable are the main points to mention. The character of the house, even the creaky floorboards, was very appealing. The effort to make our stay so personal particularly as it was to celebrate my father's 80th birthday was immeasurable. Beds exceptionality comfortable, lovely hot shower, breakfast was amazing and our dog felt like he was at a home from home, made a friend and shared a sausage at breakfast.
This was a true gem of a place to stay, with a very attentive host who couldn't do enough to please us.

Unfathomable Beauty!

Stayed here for three days in September.  Absolute find, spiffing views, unparalleled service, historical opulence. 

From booking to stay the experience was first to none. Owners looked after me all the way throughout and  on site the Sterling service continued right up until departure.

Great food, amazing rooms, and in matched aesthetics! Garden makes Kew look like a small park! 

100 per cent recommend and will come back!

Unfathomable Beauty.

Nicola was a fantastic host, very attentive and extremely welcoming, especially to our dog Dougal. We really enjoyed our stay at Bowlish House, most of all the decor, breakfast and lovely family that live there. 

Definitely worth a visit. 

Nicola was a fantastic host

Wow! I attended a Wake at Bowlish House Hotel. I had travelled a long way, so wanted to freshen up before I attended the Service. Nicola and her team were clearing up after a party the previous evening and weren't expecting guests until 4.00pm...BUT I was knocking on the hotel door at 11.00am!  Immediately I felt welcomed and valued. I was offered a room to use and refreshments. Then in the afternoon, Nicola greeted me warmly again and was respectful of our family. The buffet was AMAZING - the variety, the presentation, the quality of food - all homemade and all absolutely delicious, and was bountiful. I was offered a doggy bag as I had to leave - and the dcone was truly scrumptious! Jodie our waitress was unobtrusive yet friendly and helpful. Thank you Nicola and your team for going above and beyond, not just once - but throughout the day - not just to me, but to all the guests.

We stayed over New year and took all 6 rooms as we are two large families. Our stay rates 11 out of ten. Nicola is a superb host, arranging an incredible new years eve dinner for all 11 of us. We felt like the house was our home, but without having to lift a finger! The hotel is a beautiful building and the squeaky floorboards add to the charm. I reallt cannot find a single fault.

I agree with a previous Reviewer – this is a ‘work in progress’.  The distinction being it is now a Bed and Breakfast establishment not an Hotel and charges should perhaps reflect this.   Bowlish is currently in the second set of new hands since the wonderful hotel owners departed in Autumn 2020.  The first set of new owners endeavoured to remove the character of the building by creating a cold and unwelcoming look and service – they succeeded, fortunately their tenure was short lived.   The new owners are endeavouring to replace some of that character but should perhaps walk before they run.  It is very tempting to claw back some of the capital spent on refurbishments immediately but perhaps sensible to wait until everything is ship shape.  Charging premium rates based on room size and the number of people it can accommodate rather than basics, such as providing hygienic flooring covering in bathrooms, replacing the dust/stain gathering coir carpeting, complimenting the rooms with good quality soft furnishings and ensuring housekeeping are up to scratch, is not ideal.   I sincerely wish the new owners well with their endeavours and hope to see an advance in the improvements next year. 

A work in progress

We stayed at Bowlish House earlier this month while visiting the English Countryside after a Jane Austen tour of Bath.  The historic home (1732) predates Jane Austen, and is exactly the kind of Palladian/Georgian manor house she might have stayed in or stopped into for a party.  The original character features of the house have been well preserved, and it's been sensitively renovated and filled with art.  The owners are very charming people, for whom nothing is too much trouble.  The cream tea with freshly baked scones upon arrival were much appreciated, as was our full English breakfast with fried bread and local sausages.  All in all, a cosy and authentic stay in the English Countryside.  Highly recommend!
