Old atmospheric pub, arts venue, theatre spaces upstairs and great staff. It has a pub cat who's right at home amongst the varied punters and wanders about like he owns the place. They even sell herbal teas and have a beer garden. 

I really find the negative reviews surprising - it wasn’t dirty on my visit - the bar is very interesting great location for Manchester the owner Ken is a very sound person I would recommend this place anytime -

Two friends and I booked the triple room on a Saturday night as we were going to a gig in the O2 Apollo. Check-in was really easy and the staff were laid back, helpful, and friendly. The room was pretty basic but it was everything we needed. Being located above a pub, it was quite loud; I probably wouldn't recommend this place for a couple but it is absolutely perfect for a group of friends. It's central location made it easy to get everywhere, and there was plenty of pay and display parking near by. There are a few take-away places to eat just next door/across the road. And to top it all off you can take drinsk from the bar up to your room (hence the bed pints).

I'll definitely be looking to stay here next time I'm in Manchester for a gig or night out. Thanks.

Great place with totally chilled cat included!

Very comfortable and accommodating

I'm no snob. I can camp in the woods, or sleep in the car.
I wish I'd have done either, rather than stay here. What a mistake. 
1. The rooms smelt of vomit.
2. The door did not lock.
3. The window would not shut.
4. The ceiling was dropping in. 
5. The shoebox of TV would not work.
6. The floor Lino was sticky.
7. The dust on the wallpaper was thick.
8. You get the picture.....  

To be avoided at all cost. Do not stay here. 

Dreadful !!

The bed sagged down on one side.
The WiFi didn't work in the room at all. 
The TV was so up high and didn't tilt down so we couldn't use the TV in our room. 
There were two seperate beds, but the shower door was clear so one of us had to leave the room for the other to shower. 
The shower had mildew. 
The only use able plug in the room for the kettle was behind the bed so you had to hold the kettle on the bed while the water boiled for tea and coffee. 
The cups they provided for tea and coffee were dirty and they didn't provide stuff to clean them between uses. 
The entrance way to the hostel smelled like pee as it was outside the door for the men's toilets from the bar. 
There was no one available to speak with if the bar was not open. 

There was a host of other issues but these were the main ones. 
The towels they provided were nice and big and the bar was pretty ok, nothing super special but decent enough to grab a pint.

Worst Stay EVER

The room was rotten with mould and damp. When attempting to get into bed, a bulge from the roof above suddenly burst and I was drenched in water. Went to reception who brought another mattress and laid it on the floor. Apologised and said they would refund some of our payment in the morning to compensate, did not answer any knocks in the morning to avoid refunding us. The hallways stunk of cannabis and the overall organisation of the place left a lot to be desired. Definitely would not return.

Worst room I've ever stayed in

We booked this "hotel" to save a bit of money, thinking it'll be a bit on the budget side but fine for a weekend away. I wish I'd just spent a bit more money and stayed somewhere else.
It's really dirty, the hallways reek of urine, poo or weed, depending which floor you're on.
Nothing in the rooms works - TV doesn't work, lights broken, shower door broken, dodgy lock on the door that's really awkward to lock, ceiling fan that's almost falling off.
While lying in bed I rolled over and looked down the gap between the mattress and bed frame - bits of food and dirt, what I can only assume are flakes of human skin... This bed obviously hasn't be cleaned in months, if ever.
The toilets are two flights of stairs away and are as clean as a night club toilet at 3am.
I kept thinking "well I can't complain, it was  very cheap" but I just wanted to warn others that you do very much get what you pay for. Only saving grace  are the very friendly staff.
It should absolutely not be described as a hotel and frankly the lack of fire safety information is frightening. Avoid at all costs.

Cheap but definitely not a bargain

budget hotel and pub.  The rooms were not very good tho. Carpets and curtains were stained . Bit struggle to park car overnight . Breakfast was ok. The only thing we liked was the jam bottles.  Didnt feel friendly

Called in again today for the real ale which once again was sent back as totally undrinkable. Every time I have called in recently I have had a problem with the beer, cloudy/warm ale, vinegary taste, even dirty glasses. I won’t be returning.
