Me and my wife spent 2 lovely days at the Firs, Mary and the staff couldn't do enough for us, the room the food we're outstanding.  We had an evening meal on the Tuesday evening the food was excellent  and Mary made me a special Syrup sponge and custard which was very nice, we would highly recommend a stay here.

An amazing week, Mandy & her staff were brilliant, breakfast choice was everything from a Yorkshire fry up to fresh fruit and yoghurt. We had our pet whippet with us & the the firs was a great choice. Room was clean, we will definitely be visiting again!

A long weekend with The Firs Guesthouse was the perfect place to stay. Their generousity and service was outstanding; bedrooms, breakfasts and the Fish Restaurant too.
So helpful with advice on visiting local attractions. They suggested I shoulkd the bus service to get around - especially travelling to Whitby.
Just £2 per trip -anywhere on route. No more parking fees and limited times.
One visit isn't enough- I'll to bookjvisit before the winter arrives.

Excellent place, the staff were lovely very clean they accept dogs the food was brilliant served hot and prompt, Mandy the chef was a delight to deal with and had lots of local information to tell us the bar was fully stocked and stayed open until late all 3 nights we stayed. This is a beautiful peaceful location to wind down, we fully recommend looking forward to seeing you again Mandy

I highly recommend, from walking in, to walking out everything was as expected. The food was excellent and the rooms were exceptionally clean. There was a coffee machine in the room too, along with cake, which was delicious. A quiet, relaxing place out of the hustle & bustle. 

Great location being so close to Staithes and not far from Whitby. Quiet area with a pub down the road for evening food. Room was clean and tidy, service was great and a very enjoyable breakfast. Will hopefully come again in the new year as I love this part of the country.

We had an amazing stay at The Firs! The room was a twin with plenty of room for us both we used this as a base to visit Whitby, Robinhoods bay ect... Our breakfast was tasty and as ordered and our evening meal at the Runswick bay catch was delicious. Id definitely recommend the swahili prawns. The whole weekend was brilliant with runswick bay on your doorstep.

It’s such a warm and friendly place that’s also very dog friendly too.

Runswick Bay is a hidden delight (to us , anyway!) and The Firs was ideal. A comfortable bedroom, excellent breakfasts and a superb evening meal. Both Janet and Mandy made us very welcome and we will return.

This was a last minute booking for us...what a delight! We read the reviews and went for it. This was perfect for me, my husband and dog. We booked a king size 4 poster room which was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable and even offered a pillow menu. This guest house has a level of detail which many don't... it was lovely to come home each evening after a long walk to be able to make a cup of tea an enjoy a piece of cake in our room, though there are tables on a sun terrace at the front of the property. This is a tranquil location, helpful if you want a good night's sleep. It is just 30 seconds walk from the Cleveland Way coastal path so giving the dog a run about was v easy. Breakfast here was superb...whether you like traditional or healthier options. The bar at the hotel was also well stocked and incredibly reasonably priced too, think I counted 3 types of Vodka and 7 kinds of Gin. Clearly a lot of detail and hardwork goes into ensuring that guests have a great time. Highly recommended. I read one poor review (who focussed on the TV signal) before staying and really can't understand why anyone would be so sour. This geographical area sometimes has intermittent tv signal, though the hotel WiFi is great. Fancy coming to this amazing and scenic area to stay in and watch TV...a life wasted me thinks!!!

An amazing stay at The Firs

A comfortable, pet-friendly guest house with amazing breakfasts

Went for an evening meal with my daughter while staying in Runswick. Delicious fresh produce cooked by Mandy the chef. Beautiful decor and service. In truth I would pay the same price for smaller portions. Also only need one portion of veg and potatoes between 2 as portion too large. We would have had a pudding as they looked delicious but too full. Highly recommend.

Restaurant review

Went for dinner here with my mum. We’re greeted by superb staff and seated. Wonderful atmosphere, very clean and cozily decorated. We were never left with an empty glass only empty plates. The portions were big (a bit too big for me but I have a small appetite and am easily full) and extremely well priced. The food is superb !!! I can’t get over how lovely the waiters were. Would love to go here again.

5 star service and superb food!

There was a warm welcome when we arrived at this really nice B and B . The room was comfortable and spacious  with a really great bathroom . The home made cake , coffee and tea in the room with fresh milk in the fridge is a lovely touch . Mandy the chef produces great food for her guests breakfast is really good and dinner is just amazing , well cooked and the best cheese cake ever ( believe me I have eaten many cheesecakes!)
Really cannot understand the recent negative review this place is a gem . It is well placed for visiting Runswick bay ,Cleveland Way ,Salt burn , Whitby and Sandsend. We will be back

Great stay in comfortable B and B

The Firs is a lovely hotel with excellent facilities, right next to the Cleveland Way and the East Coast excellent bus route as the hotel has private parking you can enjoy a car-free holiday once you arrive.   We had a lovely two day break there the staff at the hotel are all lovely and the service is great. Can highly recommend it.

Lovely break in a lovely part of the country

We arrived early and were able to leave our car in their car park whilst we went for a walk.
Our room, a standard double was roomy and spotlessly clean. There was a fridge with fresh milk and a bottle of water in it. A kettle and coffee machine were provided with a selection of tea and coffee. Cake was supplied each day. So much thought was given to this that a tea towel was provided.
The bed was comfortable with a choice of pillows being available.
The restaurant was closed on Sunday but we had a meal on Monday.
As a starter we had mussels, this arrived in a large casserole dish each with a lid for the shells. This would have been enough for a meal.
We had duck for our main course, we were surprised to get half a duck each!
This came with dishes of vegetables and potatoes. 
We could not do justice to these huge portions.
Breakfast was exceptional with an extensive menu. Everything was beautifully cooked and presented.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
