After reading other reviews I am so surprised! We stayed here for one night while going to a wedding. Melanie was the best host we have ever had at a B&B stay, she is an amazing, interesting, kind woman and can’t fault her in any way. Other guests reviews I just don’t understand - the b&b is exactly as described, I think the other guests should have either read the description or gone for a hotel. 
Melanie called and text us prior to our arrival to cater for our individual needs - something other places wouldn’t do, was such a lovely personal touch. Her place is beautiful and everything has an interesting story behind it. I would 100% stay here again if ever back in Richmond. We LOVED Stripy the dog as well. Thank you so much for your hospitality and having us x

My husband and I spent a night there. It was a great experience. The house was so cozy and “hygge”, we fell in love with the doggy and the lady was so polite and kind. It was like spending the holiday in a relative’s home. Breakfast was so yummy and we are planning to go there again. Stable Cottage was the best part of our trip to Richmond!

The best B&B ever

After having an eventful weekend, I thought I would write a couple of helpful tips for anyone else who will be visiting Stables Cottage, Richmond. 

1. If your planning on settling into your room nice and early to unwind, think again. Check in is between 5-7pm as Melanie as ‘places to be and things to do’. So your plans will have to wait.
2. Don’t bring any luggage. You seriously must be crazy to think that you can put your bags on the floor or in a wardrobe😂 what other BnB does that? Stable cottage allocates a special place for your luggage: the windowsill. 
3. Another point to the one above. If your over 5 stone or 5ft tall. You won’t be able to fit inside the place. I would recommend hobbits only. 
4. If you are wanting to leave/check out. I would advise you to gently place your key on the desk, or even just pop it on the floor as everything is ‘antique’.
5. The last and probably the most important tip is, please if you are a commoner ( like ourselves) do not book a stay here. She only welcomes gentlemen to her humble abode.

A couple of helpful tips😊

Melanie is very welcoming and provides lots of thoughtful touches for guests in her home. The cottage, guestroom, courtyard garden, and decor are charming - I'm sure there are fascinating stories behind many of the items that Melanie would share. Although the guestroom is not en suite the bathroom is adjacent, and the shower pressure and heat was good. The bed is comfortable, and the pillows plentiful. Very good WiFi.

Melanie provided a tasty breakfast which was the most comprehensive I've ever had in any b&b, with an array of preserves, served with lovely weighty cutlery.

This is not a conventional hotel, it's more like staying with a friend.

Like staying with a friend

Loved this B&B. Very friendly lovely atmosphere.
Very different. Would definitely go back. Food was excellent with a good choice. Something for all tastes. Very central. Excellent parking. Easy walking distance to town.

Warm welcome

The cottage is small, quirky and cosy. The breakfast was ethically sourced and tasted great. The hostess, Mel, was welcoming and engaging. The same apples to Mel's lovely dog, Stripy. This is a great location for exploring Richmond.In conclusion, this was great value for money.

Friendly & welcoming

We were admitted through the back door through the kitchen. There was clothing hanging up and we had to duck to avoid it. The kitchen and all other rooms were full of clutter. Our bedroom and the cramped upstairs area smelt of dog. Linen on our bed was faded and worn. The room and bed blanket smelt strongly of dog.The shared bathroom was cluttered with hosts personal items. The hosts bedroom, guest bedroom and the bathroom were do close together that any sound from anybody would be heard by all occupants,

Although the lady was kind enough... we arrived to a rude comment about us not reading the instructions about the pay and display parking. Then we were welcomed into a very small cottage. We were told not to have food in our room and to put coffee on coasters as furniture was old. Lovely dog but just came into our room. It is falsely advertised as it isn’t a b&b at all, rather a spare room rented out. The lady was very excentric, as was the decor. Shared bathroom and no lock on the door! As there was no lock on the door which made me and my partner uncomfortable we decided not to stay for our 2 pre paid nights and go to a hotel. Was also informed by the lady who owned the property that the same thing had happened the night before. Just wasn’t for us.
