Great food and great service wonderful quiz , staff very helpful never been into a pub like this one almost life changing I can’t believe a pub like this exists , would 100% visit again , I transcended when I ate the chocolate fudge cake and the chips , thank you to the staff for a wonderful experience

Food good

We have recently visited the Darrington hungry horse hotel while on holiday from Devon to visit family, we didn't stay in the hotel but we did visit the restaurant more than once. We found this place warm and welcoming from the looks of the place (clean and tidy) to the friendly staff. We enjoyed one of Maureen's breakfasts. The lovely Molly encouraged us to book the Easter bunny breakfast experience and my 2 kids had smiles from ear to ear when the easter bunny arrived with Easter eggs, it was so heart warming the kids Nanna was crying. We can only thank everyone at the Darrington for wonderful food and great hospitality, we look forward to visiting again.

Great for familys

Hotel overall was pretty dirty. We ate in the bar which actually tasted quite nice but when we ordered a drink the glasses came with dirt and lipstick on them.  When I returned them to the bar, the girl was actually unimpressed that I had returned it.  Albeit she did say sorry.  The room and corridor leading to it were also old and dirty looking.However, the bed sheets were very clean and the bed was comfortable.  We paid less than £60 so it wasn’t over the top for the time of year.  Not a great hotel given its condition though.

A cheap stay but not the best.

Stayed here for 3 nights.  Staff were friendly, courteous and welcoming and couldn't do enough for us.  Unfortunately they are let down by the overall shabbiness of the rooms, poor cleaning standards and the low quality of the food.  When we arrived we found a brown stain on the top sheet and so removed it, only to find that an entire corner of the sheet had a tea stain on it and it had been tucked in so as not to show - clearly the sheets hadn't been changed before our arrival which is pretty disgusting.The carpet was covered in stains, the bathroom sink was badly cracked and dirty and the bath itself has chips in several places, this sounds minor but could be a real hygiene issue if not sorted.The full english breakfast was poor, the egg was swimming in oil and the bacon was covered in burnt black bits.  For the money we paid, the food wasn't worth it. Lastly, the corridor to our rooms absolutely reeked of marijuana.  Clearly somebody in the one of the rooms was smoking a lot of the stuff.  Hardly makes the place family-friendly.All in all we probably wouldn't stay here again.

Shabby and poor value

Staff were lovely, but you were given food with no cutlery or napkins. You were expected to get that for your self. Bathroom we had had no heating, black mould on ceiling. Bedroom freezing, the heater hadn’t been on in the room for a while so we felt when we put on heater the room never heated up   Temperatures outside was 1degree. Bedside light not working

Stop over

Arriving to a freezing cold room (pre booked incidentally) after a very long drive was really unpleasant. The heater itself was incomprehensible and I needed help from Reception. A bedside lamp was missing and had to be requested. All the staff members were friendly and helpful; it’s management cutbacks that made this stay so poor. The food - both in the evening and at breakfast - was not good. Microwaved, dubious meals with processed cheese, UHT milk in the morning, no tomatoes for the salad (half a plateful of lettuce doesn’t really cut it), and the water in urns for tea was lukewarm - I asked for real milk and went upstairs to make HOT tea in my room! I am not even a particularly picky traveller, but would avoid staying here again.

Nice staff but a poor hotel

Bed lovely and comfy. Quiet area. Shower lacking and the coffee is rubbish instant stuff that tastes like gravy granules
