1st January 2020  I Booked Cherwell Guesthouse in  Oxford at a cost of £688.50   

10th June I received notification from the Booking.com stating that the Guesthouse had cancelled my booking.   Due to Covid 19 the Guesthouse and it seems had PERMANENTLY CLOSED DOWN.

 Booking .com insisted that any claims for refunds should be directed to the Guesthouse.

7th July    I received an e mail explaining that the Guesthouse had permanently closed due to the death of the owner, that the matter was in the hands of the Executors and agreeing to refund any monies.   Requested that I send bank details to enable a refund.  I sent these details by return.
Sent several e mails to the contact address enquiring about progress, but received no response.

2nd  October  I received an e mail stating that the Executors were to pay the refund within 5 days.   Nothing happened.

 9th , 12th  20th & 26th 1October & 6th November,  I Sent an e mails saying that I still had received no payment.    Only an automatic responses received to date.
 
Has anyone else had the same experience ???

No Refund Although Guesthouse Cancelled Booking

Hi, my friend made a booking for 2 single rooms at the end of May in the name of Mrs Joyce Taylor. Unfortunately she is having trouble contacting yourself via email as her correspondence has been returned saying the email cannot be sent. We understand these are difficult times but would appreciate some contact in order that we can arrange a refund of our monies. Refund for May booking

Clean and neat room, and helpful staff (although the room was massively over-heated. However clearly the best thing about this guesthouse  is the location - opposite the sports ground and within a few minutes walk of Magdalene Bridge - which was why we chose it.

Location, location, location!

Chose this guest house rather than a hotel as it is close to the O2 Academy where I was attending a gig.  It's a short bus ride from the station and only a few minutes walk from the venue.  Lots of shops/cafes around.  I received a warm and friendly welcome.  The room was small and basic but very clean and the free WiFi was absolutely brilliant.  All the TV channels you could want, tea and coffee making facilities in the room and good security.  I would definitely stay again if attending another gig at the O2.

Basic but excellent

We were very impressed with this guest house - the rooms were a good size, the beds were comfortable & very clean. We had three family rooms & all were good.

We walked into town - took about 30 mins max & were at the Cocktail Bar - Duke of Cambridge. 

Great place - included parking.

First time in Oxford, first time at the Cherwell Guest House, staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was very clean, spotless to be fair, good lighting, nice and simple to use shower, minutes away from City Centre, they have a car park and they allowed us to leave our car even after checking out 

What a great experience 

Booked this hotel for 6 family members. The hotel was in a great location with free parking. We were able to walk to Oxford uni and city centre and the restaurants in the street behind were brilliant. It was excellent value for money. We had 4 rooms in a separate building that were all en suite. Rooms were a great size and the so were the bathrooms. I’m really not sure how big people want rooms to be in the reviews on here but we’ve stayed in a lot of hotels and this was pretty good considering the price. It was clean and tidy and spacious. Just what we needed for a weekend away. Staff were really kind and allowed us to leave our cars there while we explored Oxford after checkout and they let us use the dining room. Would definitely stay again! 

Don’t judge a book by its cover

My husband and I stayed here as we were running in the Oxford Half.  Rooms were clean and adequate for what we needed ... just somewhere to sleep. Staff were so accommodating; let us leave the car in their car park and arranged for us to have showers after our race, even though check out time is 10am.  Thorough recommend.

Oxford Half Marathon

The staff are pleasant and helpful. The guesthouse is in a good location for the city centre. The room we stayed in was pleasant enough - despite having furniture in it that appeared to be second-hand and having an “en suite bathroom” the size of a broom cupboard! The bed was very comfortable but there was no central heating (turned off) which explained the mountain of blankets on the bed. 
At £73 per night this is a grossly overpriced place to stay and does not represent good value in my opinion. But that is typical of all Oxford accommodation - but then, there’s always Air BnB I guess!!! 
(We once rented a room in Oxford of a similar size to the room we stayed in here. That rented room- in a shared house - was £700 per month! No wonder the NHS and other services can’t recruit in oxford - people just can’t afford to live there.)

Typically overpriced Oxford accommodation 

We spent one night there. The staff was friendly. Good for short stay in Oxford. Good restaurants on the back. Worth to explore.

They kept my luggage when check-out. 

Bus stops are in front of the guest house. Buses are frequent in Oxford. I found that the bus service to the train station was quite good. You need to transfer at the centre of Oxford.
