Warm welcome from start to finish of our stay.   Bed was super comfy. Breakfast was superb and property well situated from town which is a couple of minutes walk.    Beautiful and well looked after property.     Great homemade shortbread and made to feel at home

From the lovely welcome we knew this was going to be a great place to stay.  Hawthornbank Guest House is very close to all that Oban has to offer, easy to walk directly into town, but it is also really quiet, situated on a little used road, opposite the bowling green.  Clive and Karin were welcoming and informative hosts.  The room was quiet and clean with all that we needed for a two night stay.  We wanted to catch an early ferry to Mull and Clive provided a great packed breakfast/lunch as we were leaving before breakfast was served.  The following morning we had breakfast there and it was really great.  Plentiful selection of cereals, yoghurt etc and we had the full Scottish breakfast and the scrambled eggs with salmon, both were superb!  Lovely to chat to Clive and Karin, they make time to talk to guests, which is really nice.  Would highly recommend, thank you!

Well positioned B&B with sea views and short walk to the esplanade. Large, comfortable, quiet, clean room. Friendly, helpul owner, Great breakfast. Free parking. Slightly mre expensive than average, but worth it.

A really lovely, welcoming hotel centrally situated in the town. Excellent standard of cleanliness with friendly, attentive and informative hosts. We stayed in the Victorian room which had the most beautiful sea view of Oban’s charming bay. Delicious, freshly cooked breakfasts with a good range of choices to suit every palate. A real gem in the heart of Oban. 

Position is great for ease of walking access to town centre amenities but so peaceful at night. Hosts were attentive and the accommodation and breakfast were great... bed was large and semi firm which made for a great night's sleep.... recharged for our continued journey the next day! Thanks 

This bed and breakfast was a real treat. The staff were all very helpful and informative. We had a wonderful view of the harbor and it was just a short walk into town and to the ferry. My husband had the hearty Scottish breakfast both days and I loved the porridge and continental breakfast. We had the Victorian room on the second floor which had wonderful antique furniture. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed 2 nights at Hawthornbank. Located in a quiet neighborhood with onsite parking. 
There is a self service laundromat at the Esso filling station about 4 mins drive away. The B&B is very close to town (3-4 mins walking) but it is uphill when coming back so seniors or people with mobility issues may have challenges.
Ian was a great host with lots of good information. The breakfast room was large and spacious. Although breakfast is 8-9am, the hosts were kind enough to provide me with an early "bag" breakfast on a day that I had to leave for a day tour. 
I had a single room on the ground floor and it was quite spacious and spotless. Definitely recommend this B&B.

We were fortunate to find this lovely B&B in Oban for a visit in October.  It has a stunning location overlooking the harbor and is just a short stroll down to the main part of town with shops and restaurants.  Our room was at the back and was very quiet .  The bed was very comfortable, the shower works well and we enjoyed our stay.  Another plus is that there is on-site parking available, not always easy to find in Oban.  Breakfast each morning is continental style and served very nicely.  We had ample choice and the hosts could not have been any nicer. This is a well run, reasonable and comfortable place to base yourselves while touring Oban and the area.

Beautiful guest house in a beautiful setting!  We arrived the night before when it was pitch black outside, and I remember the next morning opening up the curtains and thinking I had jumped into a picture.  Absolutely beautiful view!  We stayed for two nights but I could have stayed longer. The room was nicely decorated. Our host was gracious and served us a lovely breakfast each morning. He offered several suggestions for the area, and we appreciated the time he took to chat with us.  I highly recommend the Hawthornbank House in Oban for a stop on vacation or for a short getaway.

Great location in the beautiful coastal town of Oban. Ian can advice you on local sightseeing and has a genuine interest in your plans. Breakfast is nice with some good smoked salmon. Parking out front and direct access to the centre through the backyard. Rooms are comfortable and clean as well as the bed and facilities.

A gem in the heart of Oban

Two days in Oban

Hawthornbank is well located in a quiet residential area of Oban. It is exceptionally clean and the bed was very comfortable and room a very good size with couch. It’s a small but clean and serviceable ensuite shower room. From a solo traveller perspective, it’s not the best value for money at £144 a night for room via booking.com as no single occupancy discount. This is not apparent on booking.com. Given factors like one less breakfast to make, I appreciate when there is a discount on the occasions I’m solo travelling. It struck home that prices due to cost of living and energy are impacting the sector. Previously this type of  price point would have had luxury additions. This is a very good, comfortable, pleasant, exceptionally clean bed and breakfast but not got the additions that put it into top bracket which luxury price would suggest. Room 2 is ground floor and looks onto back of building and guest house car park- not towards the bay. It’s quiet, overlooking bowling green and quiet road. It’s also on ground floor and next to breakfast room and hosts’ office, so there are intermittent enquiries you can hear very clearly when in room. It was quiet in general though beyond folk checking in and very quiet at night. The breakfast caters for vegetarians and vegans, and the hosts were catering for another resident with gluten allergy so were very sensitive to diet requests. This is the most I’ve ever paid for a b and b, so this is reflected in my comments.

Wonderful stay at the Hawthornbank Guest House

We had a wonderful stay. Large, beautiful room was filled with antiques and had a gorgeous view of the bay and islands. It was fun to watch the ferries coming and going. Guesthouse is within easy walking distance of restaurants, ferry and train station. We did not need a car. Breakfast was relaxing and delicious. Charming garden out front with outdoor seating would be a great place to relax, although weather did not permit this during our visit. We would love to return.

We returned to Hawthornbank on two occasions this summer, the first being in June and the second just last week. Its central location can not be beaten. Delighted to report that the standards set by Ian and Jem continue to be exceptional. Our room and all communal areas were immaculate. As before, the bed was extremely comfortable and one which you can’t help but have a good night’s sleep in. We stayed in The Regency Room from which the views across the bay are stunning. Sitting in the high-backed chairs, taking it all in is something that will be a special memory to recall during the long Scottish winter months. Both Ian and Jem are very warm and welcoming hosts. We were considering going over to the Island of Kerrera on the last day of our stay and Ian provided us with all the relevant information which sealed the deal for us to go! We are so glad we did as it was such an enjoyable and worthwhile trip. Top marks once more to Hawthornbank and looking forward to our next visit!
