The highland Coo’s was the reason why we came. Place is fine.  Views are wonderful.

Beautiful house, amazing setting and superb food. We were delighted to stay here for a week in September with friends. The rooms are really comfortable with amazing views. It’s so quiet and restful. Delicious breakfast and dinner available which is all cooked fresh. Highly recommended

We had a lovely 6 nights here. Perhaps the most peaceful B&B we’ve ever stayed in, set on the banks of a loch, 17 miles outside Oban.
Breakfasts are fab - full Scottish option (including haggis) and yoghurt and fresh fruit. Views over the loch from the gorgeous dining and sitting rooms.
Host Matthew provided an excellent packed lunch for us and cooked a wonderful meal in the evening on request. Highly recommended

If you appreciate art, history, fine dinning as well as exceptional beauty and hospitality...then Melfort House is the place for you! From the moment we drove up to the house, stepping into the foyer and receiving a warm welcoming greeting from Leah, we were awestruck! The entire house and property is a work of art. The bedroom made us both gasp with it's charm - a complimentary decanter of Scotch whisky on the antique dresser. The king-sized bed was so very comfortable. The bathroom had the most comfortable soaking tub. The sitting room and dining room simply beautiful with so many antiques and quirky items on display. The view from the drawing room and grounds - magnificent! Matthew is a passionate and accomplished Chef. We highly recommend Melfort House. As we commented in the guestbook: "It was like staying overnight in a museum"! Our intention is to return next year.

Absolutely stunning house and room. The host is exceptionally friendly and warm, and his cooking was simply spectacular. Would return and recommend without hesitation.

Amazing hotel in every possible way - location, appearance, cleanliness, view, welcoming atmosphere, Mathews the host and the chef, dinner and breakfast.  We highly enjoy our stay there and will gladly come back the next time we are in Scotland.

Lovely, peaceful B&B

Magical

Beautiful house and gardens. Matthew welcomed us warmly and explained everything. We stayed in the Loch room which has a beautiful view of the loch. Everything was comfortable and the decor excellent. There is even complimentary whisky provided. The bed was large and helped provide a good night’s sleep. We were able to lay in bed and watch the birds, including woodpecker outside. Breakfast was good and set us up for the day. I would recommend a stay here.

Excellent overnight stay.

The Melfort house is an amazing property with beautiful furnishings, lovely gardens & a spectacular view of the sea surrounded by lambs & song birds.Matthew, the host, was very accommodating & prepared an outstanding 4 course dinner & made to order Scottish breakfast.Our visit there stands out as the best in Scotland!

Why is it every time we visit Oban, there's a violent storm?We'd booked for two nights but on our day of travel Mathew phoned to advise all the roads were either flooded or blocked with landslips. We agreed to try travelling the following day, which we did - it was eventful and with many detours but got there. Mathew kept in touch throughout to check our progress too, giving us updates on road closures.When we arrived, we were greeted at the door and shown our room, which was huge and very well appointed. We asked for dinner each night and I must say, the food was of the highest standard ( and I've been to a lot of top tier hotels in my day). Mathew had also arranged at my request for prosecco, flowers and chocolates to be in our room to celebrate our wedding anniversary.Dinner was preceded with a complimentary glass of sherry and coffee was in the comfortable and well furnished drawing room. We sat at the large dining table with other guests for both dinner and breakfast, so it was great that we got to meet new people throughout our stay, all of whom were lovely and also intrepid travelers.All in all, Melfort House is a top notch hotel / B&B and definitely a cut above the rest, with fantastic hospitality, awesome food and yet quiet enough to relax in traditional comfort. Thank you !

Tranquility in the eye of the storm....

Lovely B&B in a quiet village. The owner was away during our stay so we were served by his friend who was great. There are only 3 rooms which are quite large with all amenities provided and the ensuite bathrooms are modern. Note that the room doors are not lockable although this was not an issue for us. Only areas for improvement might be that the wifi signal in the rooms was quite poor, however guests also have use of the large drawing room on the ground floor, where the wifi signal is good. The room rates are fixed here, and as we booked quite late the other options were dinky hotels in Oban for only a few pounds less so it was a no-brainer to stay here instead. The road to Oban is mostly recently repaved and relatively wide so it is a fast and smooth drive.

Excellent

A beautiful location with good venues and hiking. My wife enjoyed a beautiful 6 mi walk while I visited gardens nearby due to a bad ankle. Matthew has a wonderful and interesting house and helped with some extra needs for scheduling a harbor trip and laundry due to a spill. We enjoyed our time in this quiet and peaceful home.

Surprises come in many forms. When visiting Melfort, it comes on a plate and in the local pub. 

Mathew has been providing magic moments in this tucked away beauty for nearly 20 years. Clean. Classically appointed and comfortable. Hard to believe the history of the land ( ask him to give you the history on making gun powder on the area) as it is beautiful. 

But the magic comes from his skills in the kitchen at a very fair price for dinner. Excellent quality, thought, and execution for half of what you would pay at a high end restaurant. Self taught, he has a sharp knife and set of culinary skills. But, that is not even the best part. 

Tuesday nights are music nights at the local Inn/ pub with an occasional Friday night at another nearby hotel. DO NOT MISS the musical journey thru Scotland. Home grown, beautiful tradition and a warm welcome by friendly Scott’s. Mathew has is great on the mandolin and guitar with a great vocal on the occasional ballad. A great group of friends who just want to play! Really, a highlight of our Scottish nights on our touring. 

Great to be out of Oban ( 20-30 minutes) and in the beautiful hills in a classic estate home with classic Scottish tunes. Magic.
