Room 4 - great decor and super comfortable bed. Huge tv too. Bathroom a little dated and needs a refit to be brought up to the standard of the bedroom.

Warm welcome. Friendly stuff. Stunning garden very comfy room.  cool bar with great music.
Lots to see around.   Lots of places to see and places eat around. Pizza was amazing. Excellent selection of beers. Really good gin distillery near by.

This hotel and pub is located in the heart of Newton Stewart.  It's a great place for exploring Dumfries and Galloway.  There are buses to Dumfries, Stranraer and Girvan. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed a tasty pizza in the bar in the evening.  They don't serve breakfast, but there are plenty of places to eat nearby. Friendly welcome.

A warm welcome after a tough days driving. Happy for me to charge phone and power bank and answered all of my tired questions. I stopped for a couple of hours had a meal of the sharing platter, a coffee and a hot chocolate and all the while felt comfortable and at ease. 
The food was exactly what I was after and the background music loud, but not obtrusive. They seem to cater for all, the weary traveller, youngsters on a night out and locals just in for a quiet drink.

This is a lovely property and our room was clearly recently refurbished. (Beautifully). The only point to make is that there is no lift, so accessibility for the less mobile is difficult, but this is just something to know, not a criticism. It’s an old building so just one of those things. Everything else outweighs that.

I think the Black Horse has had a complete redecorate as every thing was so new,modern and very cleanUnfortunately due to circumstances there was no food but plenty of cafe, takeaways, restaurant walking distanceParking was right outside on the roadside and no problemsThe beer garden at the back of the pub looked magicalWe will stop again on the ferry journeys

Based on a work stay the hotel was covid secure, the room was spotless, quiet and comfortable. All staff were friendly and helpful. All in all a great little hotel in Newton Stewart!

We travelled to Newton Stewart last Saturday for work. And we both thought the Black horse was fantastic.Derek and Lisa made us very welcome. Well decorated warm modern  rooms. Really cosy bar with huge selection of drinks- Gin? Lots of gin!
Breakfast was amazing. Using local produce and made fresh.
Couldn’t recommend this hotel highly enough. Look forwarded to returning again in the near future.

After a last minute decision to attend the Wigtown Book Fair, could find no accommodation in Wigtown, it was suggested I tried The Blackbull at Newton Stewart, and I couldn’t be happier.  Very handy  on the main street..PURPLE, JUST LOOK FOR A BIG PURPLE BUILDING!    Delightful staff, Adam very attentive helping with bags an suitcase.   I wasn’t up to an evening meal, but the potato soup was delicious.    I’ve already had a little doze, so I know it’s a comfy bed. Big thanks from me

Fantastic stop over

I really liked this place, the room was fine and had everything needed. Parking was easy and free on the street outside and it was very convenient for the town centre. It was much quieter than expected as well with little road noise, or from the bar nearby. The staff I spoke to were both friendly. I can't comment on the food as I didn't eat there, but overall everything was as expected and I would happily stay again.

Attending Book Fair Wigtown 

Blackhorse Hotel is probably the best one if staying in Newton Stewart (a good centre for touring the region) and at £50 per room per night, it's very reasonable.  Breakfast sounds expensive at £10 each but the cooked breakfast is huge and it's well worth it when you total up what you get.  (Newton Stewart is not in a big tourist area so eating places are very limited in any case.)  It's still only £70 a night B&B for a couple.

Everywhere is spotlessly clean and our room was good with comfortable bed.  Good wi-fi signal throughout the building.  Pub itself is fairly small but good food in the evening at reasonable prices and well kept beer, albeit only 1 cask beer on tap.  Free parking outside on the road - parking charges are virtually non-existent everywhere in Galloway!

Owner and staff all extremely friendly and helpful and they clearly know how to run a pub/hotel.  Stayed there 5 nights and would certainly stay there again if returning to Galloway.

Very good hotel & pub

We stayed as part of south west 300 it was a great stop off, very friendly staff. Felt very welcome. Room was nice and clean , had everything you needed, shower room had slight smell (damp?)but clean. Comfy bed , we had windows open as it was hot night, the only down fall was noise/ music from bar till about 12.30 .The room doors are very highly sprung (fire doors) they really bang shut , our very considerate neighbour decided that they would go back and forth to their room about 8 times between 11pm and 2 am .. but not the hotels fault just an inconsiderate prat.. overall great stay , Debbie was very helpful and good laugh.x.

South west 300 stop off

We often stay at solid luxury lodges but wanted a lunchtime stroll with our dog to support local eatery. 
    Such a warm welcome with typical lunchtime menu. What was not typical was the presentation, quality of the roast beef full lunch and steak pie too. Attention to detail was top by our welcoming barman. Other surprises were links to Adnams ales of Suffolk (my early youth spent there) so the pale ale was delicious. 
   Obvious hard working attentive staff and top chef. Well done it made a birthday lunch so enjoyable. 
We often dismiss doorway sports bar impressions. But that would be mistaken here. Do not judge the food and service before trying!  Be back for the steak pie and more excellent local craft gin we were introduced to! Thanks again guys!
