Visited for a short 2 night stay with family whilst visiting the Osprey centre and Ynys Hir. Great location , great atmosphere, good food, comfortable rooms. Rhys was a wonderful host nothing was too much trouble.


Just had 2 nights here when visiting the Mach Loop. Would definitely recommend and iI would definitely stay again if visiting this beautiful area in the future. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating and food was great. The hotel is set in an area of spectacular scenery .

I returned to the Penrhos as a ex licencee for a special birthday with family and friends.What a breath of fresh air it was to visit a hotel that had the common touch none of the pseudo traits the chain hotels make us have.Just good old service etc with a smile.My thanks to Rhys and Shirley and Staff for a nostalgic return to my past.Regards Barrie

5 night stay with my dog Jaz. Yes, it's old fashioned. It's supposed to be. Rhys and Shirley great fun and good company. Good wholesome food, comfortable rooms and all expectations met. Hopefully will go again.

Whilst we didn't stay at the hotel myself and friends did eat and drink there.
We were staying nearby and the local shop was closed and the licencee help us out with milk, all the staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was to much trouble they even managed to fit us in for breakfast (fantastic) even though they were full.
Good quality pub grub which was really appreciated and everything was hot.

We stayed here for two nights with friends whilst decorating our recently acquired holiday lodge in Pennal. What an absolute treat!! It was everything we needed and could have wished for after a long busy day…. cosy warm surroundings, tasty pub food served until 8, good wine and beer, warm friendly staff and comfortable rooms. The breakfast was perfect too. Our host Rhys made it extra special so thank you. We will be back very soon.

We booked our table well in advance, and the lady there was so friendly and helpful.  We were advised there may be a smaller menu depending on Covid (but there wasn't!)

There is lots on the menu, all good welsh pub-grub, there was a specials board, and also a food-in-a-basket menu.  All reasonably priced.  

I chose the 10oz steak, served with chips, peas, tomato and mushrooms.  I asked for it to be served medium and medium it was! This steak was just so perfect - toasty and charred out the exterior and juicy and pink in the middle; I don't know how the chef did it! The chef came out to personally check on us, and we got chatting about coleslaw and he delivered me some to try out (when I contested that my mom's was the best in the land!) His came a very close second - gorgeously creamy.

Hubby had scampi and chips, with peas and tartar sauce - he was stuffed and very pleased with his meal.  

The pub served local gins, ales and cider, and had a lovely location with beer garden overlooking fields with cows.  There is a carpark too.

They have a 5/5 rating food hygiene rating too!! 

The bar lady was very helpful and amenable to guests, and the look of the overall pub is classic.  Loved it.  I'd return when I'm back here.

Really helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble. There's a good range on the menu and they seem to change this regularly. A great dog friendly pub with a large garden at the back. They also do takeaways.

Great choice of meals. Very reasonably priced. Friendly, helpful staff. Tim is a great chef. The food is cooked well and you get generous portions. My partner and I have been many times now and would highly recommend a visit, if you are in the area. One not to be missed!

We have stayed a couple of times and found the staff very friendly, great food including the breakfast and specials, good beer selection and the room was very comfortable and well presented. Would recommend a stay.

The perfect home from home!

Cracking food and company... and good mix of drinks!

Popped in for dinner. We had soup, dinner and garlic bread. Service was efficient; always refilling our drinks, clearing plates quickly, rekindling the fire in the fireplace so it was pleasant. 

The atmosphere was relaxing, casual, and we enjoyed the fact that the music was loud enough where one could enjoy it but was also quiet enough where you could have a decent meal conversation and not be screaming to be heard.

The food portions were quite large but the prices were a little on the expensive side. There were no free beverage refills. Had to be careful because the plates were scalding hot. The garlic bread was nice and crisp. The nan was so brittle that it broke apart as I tried to scoop curry onto it so I unfortunately did not eat most of it. 

There is a small parking lot but it was filled and partially blocked by a van. Luckily, there is also free street parking which is what we did.

Pub Review - Expensive, Large Portions

Our second time to stay here and another enjoyable stay. Lovely evening meal , reasonable portions, good ale and a good wine list. Staff very friendly, room pleasant & comfortable although  would have preferred a bath not a shower. Breakfast was very nice and filling , to boost our energy for all the hill walking! Shall look forward to visiting next year.

Lovely stay.

A lovely pub and hotel. We stayed for 2 nights in June 2022 and the host really made it for us - he was so friendly and helpful! Great full English breakfast too, included as standard with hotel bookings. thank you for having us.
