This is a GEM of a B&B! It’s tucked away in the foothills of the Snowdonia Mountains, and is an absolute slice of heaven. The mansion is truly beautiful, and has been renovated with an eye for design and careful respect of its past. The antique furnishings were so perfectly chosen for each room, and the bathrooms were modern and classy. Our two rooms were both very generously sized, and both had rooftop patios overlooking the mountains in the distance. Breakfast was divine - fine dining in breakfast form - and served in the Music Room. The hosts were so friendly and kind, and went out of their way to make our stay as wonderful as possible. This is very special place, and we can’t wait to visit again someday!

Gem of a B&B!

Nice location, verg grand room, added bonus of balcony with amazing views, beautiful gardens.

Hidden gem

Opened at beginning of 2023 so a few minor teeething issues. Room was a klittle cold despite all radiators on full so may not be well insulated!Good breakfast.Close to nice river and some copuntryside, but a lot of fences!Close to town with its book shps and modern art gallery as well as Centre for Alternaive Energy, which is great for a family visit.

Newly refurbished. Pleasant stay.

It has taken a while for me to write this review as the experience was so bad I couldn't bring myself to write about it. Arrived and was given a single key and told we couldn't get in the main entrance past a certain time but that we can use the side door. After dinner we took our dog out for a little stroll only to discover after leaving only 15 mins that every door was locked and no staff were there. After knocking very loudly and calling the out of hours number we got no answer and in the end had to sleep in our car!! In the morning we received little sympathy let alone an apology. We were reimbursed our room price ( I would think so) but we're expected to pay full price for our breakfast. I explained the breakfast came with the room so why should we pay for that. After alot of grumbling from the owner he begrudgingly took this off but only after reminding us several times how expensive it is for them to use booking.com oh and if we'd only knocked on his house next door he could have helped. Well I'm sorry but I had no idea you lived next door!!! Otherwise don't you think I would have tried that option. Awful experience can't help wondering what would have happened if someone got locked out with no vehicle.

Locked out

Beautiful and tranquil setting. The whole site looked amazing. Room was spacious and clean with easy access to the grassy areas outside. Breakfast was good, served in the large dining room.
Our experience was severely marred by someone stomping around directly above us. This lasted until 11.30pm restarted at 4 and 5.30am. The stomping was bad enough, but every stomp was also accompanied with creaking floorboards or joists. So glad we only stayed the one night.
OK, the hotel cannot be responsible for inconsiderate people, BUT, they are responsible for the total lack of soundproofing and poor maintenance of the flooring.  Every footstep was accompanied by a creak, that means the entire floor is shot. That does not happen "overnight". There is no way that this has not happened before and they weren't aware of it.

Very very noisey room

We spent a thoroughly enjoyable four nights at the Plas Dolguog. Room 15 is in the Stables annex, basic and comfortable, very clean, excellent wi-fi and no noise from other occupants. My only quibble - and it's a small one relative to all of the positives that made our stay so enjoyable - was the shower. The mixer offered two settings: Nuclear Fusion or Cryotherapy. It was possible to tweak it but it took several minutes to do so. The hotel is run by Tina & Anthony, superb hosts who provided a very warm, hospitable welcome and they are clearly keen to ensure their guests will return. Breakfasts are excellent and we also had dinner on one occasion. That  menu was varied and we really enjoyed the food. The grounds, rolling Welsh hills, streams and valleys surrounding the hotel are seriously tranquil. If you are seeking  a return to nature, to step-away from the chaos of this crazy world of ours, then I'd thoroughly recommend the Plas Dolguog.

Clean, friendly and stunning scenery

We only stayed for one night but found the place to be lovely. Very clean, nice linen and towels and nice to have tea and biscuits in the room. Large and spacious room with a stunning balcony view. 
The staff were extremely helpful prior to our arrival and Tina went the extra mile when she posted back my lost property - for this I am truly grateful. Service above and beyond what many others would do.

Very kind staff, lovely hotel

We recently stayed at Plas Dolguog for a two night break to enjoy an organised birdwatching day with Iolo Williams.. We can only say thank you very much 😀
.We were looked after so well, nothing was too much trouble, the birdwatching event was supported beautifully with a  delicious traditional Christmas lunch and we were made to feel very much at home throughout our stay with lovely breakfasts overlooking a stunning Welsh mountain landscape.

All this, in spite of ongoing Covid safety implementations being adhered to and an introduction of additional Covid regulations on the Friday night. We felt very safe Covid-wise.

Lovely, old, family run hotel

Stayed for 6 nights in the annexe in a first floor bedroom with a balcony.  I'll try to give a balanced review ...

Good points:
Beautiful location. hotel and grounds - great to walk round "Grandma's garden"
Enjoyed sitting on the balcony with garden view - feeding nuthatches
Large room
Very friendly staff - great service

Not so good points
Shower over the bath did not work easily (water pressure? other guests?)  Had to get up at 7am if I wanted even a pathetic shower!!!
Food was ok - not very imaginative but good quality ingredients
