We had booked this place a few weeks before our visit and was calling on our way back from the Lakes to break our journey. Wish I hadn’t bothered. Alarm bells rang when messaged by the pub to ask us to pay cash for our stay. Also wanted payment before our arrival. I booked through Booking. Com and didn’t expect this! Couldn’t gain access til 4 pm so had to wander about til then. When we entered we were greeted by an elderly lady who gave us the key and told us the room was up the steps, not shown to our room. Lao told us breakfast was 8.30 til 9. If I had known this I would not have booked in  the first place. We entered the room which was a 4 poster king to be greeted by a kettle with a broken lid, stained on the outside with tea-coffee and full of water.  .Also the grout in the shower cubicle was black with mould. The tv was about an 18inch screen, and was ancient. The wooden bed frame was covered in dust. We therefore decided to leave and make our way home. Imagine our disgust that the owner took our payment from Booking. Com 4 days later and even after a phone call refused to return our £120. Lesson learnt, I will never pay in advance ever again and if you come here and have issues you have been warned! Final thing was in the heat of the moment we forgot to photograph evidence. The landlady gleefully said she had photos and I bet the kettle and room were spotless!  I also presume she will try to get this honest review removed so I watch this post with interest!

Never again!

We booked a last minute 2 night stay with our 2 dogs & we weren’t disappointed.

We were greeted by Elaine & Collette to their cosy & characterful pub. The bars prices were very reasonable & you can’t fault the service. The rooms were very clean & spacious while the bed was comfy.

The breakfasts were hearty but the winner was definitely the evening menu, which was delicious. There was so much to choose from & again very reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit.

There are plenty of lovely walks direct from the hotel of you can visit nearby attractions.

Thank Elaine & Collette for a wonderful stay & we hope to see you again.

Gem of a find

I was initially wary of the poor reviews left by others. I booked a last minute dinner slot and from entering the pub to finishing the meal, it was first class. A very good experience, with excellent and friendly service. I rate it very good value for money. and deserving of 5 stars.

Last minute decision,  as our original venue had a water leak and no power. Proved to be a good choice. Tasty food and good service close to our Airbnb. Great range of good and vegetarians well catered for.

Welcoming staff, spotlessly clean and delicious food! What more could you want after a days walking!
The chef even made us a vegetarian meal of spinach and mushroom lasange, which was so tasty and much appreciated. The breakfast is cooked perfectly with lots on your plate! Rooms are  very clean and the shower hot and great!

Was looking for a place to have a drink in Aysgarth. Walked to the George and Dragon at 3.15 and it said it opened at 4pm. The landlady saw us and asked us we wanted a drink. Went in and had a couple of rounds. Nice chat with landlady talking about pub and the surrounding area.  Would call in again if in the area

Awful experience. Treated rudely by staff. Family felt uncomfortable and therefore I felt aggrieved at having to spend money for such a bad time.

Would never visit again. Food was alright I guess but nothing to rave about. Shame because it’s in such a nice location.

Rude owner

We booked a two night stay here week between Christmas and new year for 2 nights. 

Arrived and shown to our room by the owner, there was a slight mix up as we’d booked a delux double room with spa bath, we firstly was given a room with a shower my partner spoke to the owner who then gave us a room with a standard bath (they where fully booked). (Room2) 

Room was pleasant with a beautiful wooden four poster bed, tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean .. tv was in an awkward place so couldn’t be watched from the bed, bathroom had a beautiful roll top bath although it was like an icebox. 

First night we had dinner in the restaurant, food was lovely and plentiful and not overly expensive, the owner and her daughter was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble, we had an excellent nights sleep as it’s so peaceful. Bar closed around 10:10:30pm 

2nd night, we where informed that they’d run out of gas so no heating however we where provided with electric heaters to keep our rooms warm which was adequate. Again we sat in the bar chatting to the owner and her daughter, two lovely very friendly ladies who are attentive to their guests needs. 

We went to bed early and although we could hear the people downstairs it didn’t disturb us (the dog in the next room did at 6am) .. 

I don’t think I would stay here again as it’s dated however that’s a personal choice, the place need’s money spending on it but in the current climate you can understand why it hasn’t been done. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the staff are amazing, i would recommend this to older couples looking for homely. 

Ohh the breakfast is spot on, all locally sourced produce and cooked fresh, full English, smoked Salmon, cereals, yoghurt, toast, tea, coffee and fresh juices were all on offer .. food fit for royalty 👸 



Delightful but Dated 

We arraived in Aygarth on holiday and decided quite late to see if we could get dinner at the George and Dragon. They could not have been more welcoming and helpful, giving us a menu to look at while we had a drink at the bar,  and found us a table in the dining room as soon as they could. Good beer, great food and a friendly pub.
We didn't have a room here so cannot comment on the hotel itself, but the pub is first class
