Really friendly hotel with a franstantic restaurant. The staff were so helpful, the hotel had a nice bar and the breakfast great.

Really lovely and classy interiors, room was fantastic with plenty of space and light, bathroom was spacious and clean, staff were helpful and friendly, food was brilliant for breakfast and dinner.

One night stay en route to Cardigan. The single room was spacious enough for me with a big tv, nice bathroom and a nice big window letting in natural light. The floors were a bit creaky in and outside the room and the water pressure wasn't great. Other than that it was a lovely stay with helpful and friendly staff.

Nice room, comfy bed and great staff. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was hot and tasty. Only one small issue with water pressure in the shower but I would stay again despite that.

Lovely service from the moment we set foot in the hotel to leaving from the friendly staff.  Check in was quick and easy.  Our room on the second floor was clean, spacious and well equipped.  The bed was super comfy and the room was quiet at night, even though we overlooked the street.  The bathroom was very clean with lovely toiletries.  We had an evening meal which was delicious and also breakfast which was equally as good.  Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Brilliant value old world hotel, clean, tidy & basic accommodation which is all we look for friendly staff and locals stayed for 2 nights for Barley Saturday, one of the best breakfasts we’ve had anywhere. The hotel is a pub on the ground floor again the price of the refreshments is exellent and noise from the pub was not heard in the bed rooms

My wife’s parents got married in this property 70 years ago, so we decided to stay here as part of our family history trip.The building is from the 1700s but it has been updated and has a ton of charm. The key boxes were all checked: the bed was comfortable, it was quiet at night and the water pressure was good. A full welsh breakfast was included.We also had dinner in the restaurant. It was a bit pricey but tasty. The staff was wonderful: hard working and attentive. Would definitely stay here again.

Pleasant one night stay, rubbish water pressure.

Great experience

Exellent value for money

We popped in for Sunday lunch while in the area. We were unsure at first as the only options available for both adults and kids were roast beef or pork, available in adult or child sized portions, but with no separate children's menu - which can be an issue as our son is autistic and won't generally eat meat except for fish fingers etc. However, he caught sight of the Yorkshire puds and asked if he could just have a Yorkshire pud with potatoes and veg. The staff were happy to accommodate and even made him his own giant Yorkshire pud, which he was over the moon with! They were also happy to warm his glass of milk up for him (another sensory need). The meals themselves were delicious, with tender meat, perfect roasties (though I'd have liked one or two more!) and plenty of nicely-cooked veg.

Delicious Sunday roast

Came here again as all the staff are super friendly and the pub has tidy locals unlike some of rhe other pubs close in cardigan. I recommended my other work colleagues to stay here who always tell me they had a tidy stay here. Cheaper than the other hotels in the area with a tidy breakfast, What more can you ask for. Thanks for a nice stay once again guys.

Better than expected the 2nd time

My husband and I travelled from Aberystwyth where we had stayed for one night to Cardigan. We saw that the Black Lion had one vacancy and we went to enquire. We were met by Tracey who went to check if the room was ready. We had z really warm welcome and the room was comfortable, clean and perfect for us.  
The breakfast was absolutely delicious , perfectly cooked and presented. Matt the chef excelled himself and I can honestly say it's the best we've had. Will definetly go back and Cardigan is z lovely town with lots to see.

Last minute booking

Great hotel in a great location for reaching nearby national trust properties or the seaside and coastal walks. All staff were friendly and helpful, they were especially kind and friendly with my 3 year old, providing small breakfasts and chatting to him. He didn’t want to leave!Food was great, which was good because there isn’t a lot of choice for evening meals in Lampeter. Room and bathroom were spacious and clean. Was great to have on site parking too.

Lovely hotel and friendly staff

The Black Lion Royal is an historical hotel at the heart of Lampeter and its community. The interior has been upgraded in modern taste and the restaurant and bar are a hub of Lampeter life. We stayed on one of the hottest days and nights of the year and staff readily provided a fan which quickly cooled our room and allowed us to sleep well. The cool shower was welcome after our hot journey but less appealing before breakfast. Our steak served in the restaurant was classic pub food, and the breakfast was freshly cooked to order and appealingly served. Lampeter is an historical university town with wartime links to Dylan Thomas and it provides a welcoming stopover in Ceredigion.

Heart of Lampeter

This is a very high quality hotel with excellent rooms & decor, it’s pricing is very reasonable giving great value for money! The staff are very friendly & attentive so it seems it is very well run. It’s popularity is well deserved, we requested to stay an additional night last minute & the staff did everything possible to deliver this. That in itself is a compliment because you don’t request an additional night if you are not happy & been well treated. The bar area is tastefully decorated, the menu is pretty decent & the food quality is top grade. Only one very minor thing, with the additional nights stay we had 2 rooms - there is no temperature control on the power showers & they are very hot. This needs to be looked at in case a child used the shower, they could be hurt?Would highly recommend & it’s ratings are well deserved!
