I’ve visited this place for 3 years. It’s closes in a week or two and being turned in to flats. I’d thought I’d give it one last review and just to say thank you to the wonderful staff who have treated so well over the years. Gonna miss this place :(

Sorry to see this place go

Booked a twin and a single room for three people for one night. On arrival was told that the twin was now a double! We insisted that this was not acceptable and produced evidence of our booking. Luckily there was a second single room available so we were then offered the double and two singles, which was fine.

I was offered a jug of fresh milk to make tea, which was much appreciated.

I had the double room, which was large, with a comfy (but very low) bed, clean sheets, a nice duvet, good shower and plenty of hot water.

I had pre-ordered fruit and yoghurt for breakfast, and sent a reminder, and this was provided. The large bowl of fresh fruit was excellent, and sufficient to share with other tables. The tasty hot breakfast was freshly cooked to order and good quality.

There was urine on my toilet seat and toilet rim, which was cleaned at my request. The toilet pan was not very clean. The windows were grimy and there was a thick layer of dust on the Venetian blind. The shower gel was empty. The basin very slow to empty and so it must have been glaringly obvious to whoever cleaned it that the waste pipe needed unblocking. The mugs and kettle were dirty. The safety retesting date on the kettle was June 2016, but was identical to the last test date, so impossible to know which of these dates was correct! The bathroom floor covering was a mottled dark brown/black. Was this by accident or design? After my shower, I turned over the now damp, previously clean white towelling shower mat and the underside was filthy. I dread to think when the bathroom floor had last been washed, probably at least six months ago.

Overall my room was dirty and poorly managed and maintained, with no attention to detail or even basic checks carried out.

Nice breakfast but hotel room very dirty and poorly maintained

This wasn't a really bad hotel just irksone. The room had good decor and was clean, bed comfortable. Bathroom was a bit manky as the shower tiles needed new grout a cheap 30 min job. No double glazing and sash windows meant that traffic could be heard on the busy road outside. Worst still was the sound of elephants in clogs in the room above. The cooked breakfast was excellent but lack of fruit and yoghurt as its taken for granted everywhere else I've stayed.

A little TLC needed

This is possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It is certainly the first time I have ever checked out of a hotel early because I was not happy to stay another night.
I’ll start with the warm welcome that the hotel advertises. We arrived at 7.00pm, an hour after reception closes. Our keys were left in an envelope at reception. Whilst I find it hard to believe that any hotel can close it’s reception so early, we were happy to pick up our keys and find our room. Next morning, when we passed reception, I attempted to introduce myself. From a hotel that talks about warm welcomes, I might have expected some inquiry into how our room was or if everything was ok, instead I got a “hello, who are you?” Followed by just “ok” when I mentioned who I was.
If you are interested in the bar, be warned that it closes at 8.30pm, if it is opened at all. We couldn’t get a drink with our warm welcome, because there weren’t enough guests to warrant the bar being opened.
Our room was awful. The beds were ok, apart from the one that had hairs in it. The bathroom was very dated and badly maintained. The sealant around the bath was mouldy in places and hanging off in others. The toilet didn’t always flush. 
The worst part was how dirty the room was. The accumulated dust on the windows, indicated that they hadn’t been cleaned properly in a very long time. There was dust on the top of other surfaces, like the trouser press. The toilet seat was filthy. We wiped it ourselves with a wet wipe and were appalled by the muck that came off.
Some of the electrical appliances had stickers on them to say that they had been tested. I don’t know what the legal requirements are, but it doesn’t fill you with confidence when the the stickers on the lights say that they should be retested in 2017 (a year ago) and the one on the trouser press said that it was still waiting for a retest that was due in 2015.
So we checked out early and told the manger why? We were appalled, that whilst she apologised to us, she blamed the cleaning staff. This was not a room badly cleaned on one day, it had not been cleaned thoroughly in quite some time, and it is the managers job to check that everything is done properly. We received a token refund. Not a full refund for the abandoned night as might have been warranted.
I have read many other reviews, and accept that you might struggle with creaky floorboards and noisy sash windows in a listed building. but there is no excuse for not thoroughly cleaning every room, every day.


Booked for 2 nights - checked out after one

I arrived and was appointed a 2nd floor room but because i have mobility problems Maisie on the front desk quickly moved me to the Ground floor which was so much easier Room 38. Fantastic Wet room. When i left on the Saturday my son was very late to pick me up and the ladies on reception couldn't do enough for me. Thank you all for looking after me.

Fantastic staff.

The Grange Hotel is an old English castle that is marketed today as a top-class mid-range hotel. The hotel complies with the overall British middle-class standard; in some places a renovation would do well. The hotel is landscaped very charming and quietly away from the traffic of the big city. A homey or even luxurious atmosphere does not appear. Overall the hotel is clean, but cannot convince; free WiFi is in vain, i.e. the Internet is pronouncedly more expensive.

English country hotel just outside Bristol

As soon as you enter the hotel it looks like you're in the last century, but the rest of England is all old, everything we've visited is old, it tastes like dust, especially with the craze of carpeting they have.
